Another one sit, unputdownable, soft, entertaining, a little predictable but still intriguing reading!

Meet with our two married characters who are not so happy with their lives: heroine suffocates because of controlling manners of her husband, the hero doesn’t love his wife anymore, meet at the workplace, fall for each other and decide to leave their spouses but then… nothing goes as they planned. See! It’s tempting, sexy, fast pacing story with so much lies, betrayal, surprises and the best thing you may need to give your full focus and get lost at its chapters!

Poor Ruby cannot stand to live with her irritatingly controlling and mentally abusive husband Tom. When she gets a job opportunity she accepts without thinking because it can give the freedom she needs, helping her being distanced from her suffocating home life. She meets with her married, charming boss Harry and it seems like love at work sight. Their whirlwind romance erupts in 18 months, blooming at a fancy, hot, memorable trip to Paris. Harry finally asks her to live together and of course she says “yes” because she is in love with him.

Ruby talks to her husband and she gets surprised because of understanding approach. Now there is no obstacle between the lovers. Ruby packs her belongings and goes to the hotel where Harry and she decided to meet. She begins to wait for him but he never comes! Did something happen to him? Because he always answers her calls and he never stands her up without any explanation.

She goes back to her work place to get some answers and she finds out she is fired! WTH? And other sucker punch comes against her face: her ex-boss and lover dearest took her PREGNANT wife to the vacation! Could it be true? Did he play with her from the beginning? So sharpen your nails, clench your fists, open your eyes, get ready for the revenge!

The story is told by Ruby and Emma (Harry’s wife). Both are likable characters and you may empathize with their feelings, motives. You read from their angles and root for both of them because they meant no harm and they did what they have to do. But I cannot say the same for the men parts.
It was moving, mysterious, captivating story that it hooked me up and I finished it at one night. It’s one of my favorite thrilling escape. Of course the outcomes are predictable, not so twisty. But it’s really enjoyable reading. I’m giving 3.5 stars and rounding them up to 4!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for sharing this great ARC in exchange my honest review.

I think we're all aware at this point that it's incredibly difficult to find a thriller that hasn't been done before, so when I pick up a suspense novel, I try to rate and review it based on the level of entertainment, and if my attention has been captured. During all the crazy pandemic updates we receive daily around the world, it's been difficult to focus on reading, yet this was a book that not only grabbed my interest, but kept me wanting to come back for more when I had to put it down. Being in close proximity with my family 24/7 is tough (which I know most of you understand), so finding a little slice of my mind where I could escape and let someone's else problems surpass my own, even if fictionally, was such a relief. Was this book something new? No, but it sure was fun to read, and I'll take a popcorn thriller whenever I can get my hands on one.

Oh, what tangled webs we weave....

Ruby and Harry are in love, they want a life together, happily ever after and all that.... except they are both married to other people. Other people that they must leave in order to be together. Sounds simple right? They come up with a day and a plan. They are going to tell their spouses they are leaving and meet at a hotel. But Harry never shows up. Then Ruby's life blows up.

Ruby loses everything, her job, Harry isn't answering her calls and her soon to be ex-husband seems to be taking their split rather well. Just when she thinks things can't get worse - they do!

This was a fun, fast, and absorbing read. I was hanging on every word Mary Torjussen wrote. I was completely riveted to this brilliantly told tale. The book is told through the POV of both Ruby and Emma (Harry's wife). Both POVs are interesting and both women proved to be interesting in her own right.

This was storytelling at its best. Very entertaining with some mystery, some suspense, and a couple of twists and turns along the way. An enjoyable read which did not disappoint. I loved being the proverbial fly on the wall while reading this one. There was never a dull moment. The pacing was spot on and everything flowed flawlessly.

Thank you to Canelo and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thirty-six-year-old, Ruby is waiting for her husband, Tom to come home from work. She has something important to tell him and she’s not sure how he’s going to take it. She knows that once she has said what she needs to say, there's no going back.

Finally, Tom arrives home and Ruby has the conversation she’s been dreading. It actually goes much better than she expected. She feels as though a huge weight has been taken off of her shoulders. For a moment, she wonders if it might have gone too well, but she pushes that thought aside.

Now she waits for someone else. But it seems like this part isn’t going according to plan

On Monday, Ruby goes to work where she’s hit with another surprise. A woman from human resources meets her at security and tells her that her contract has been terminated. Ruby has been with the company for less than two years so they aren’t obligated to tell her why she’s been let go. She'll soon find out.

Now she wonders if she’s made the biggest mistake of her life.

But it seems like someone doesn’t think Ruby’s been through enough. She starts receiving threatening messages and prank calls. She even wonders if someone has been inside her home. Now Ruby is going to have to do something she’s rarely done before. She’s going to have to stand up for herself.

Ruby has decided that she won't go down without a fight. But first, she’ll have to figure out who she’s fighting against.

An excellent read!

I thought this was a very enjoyable psychological suspense novel. A well-crafted story with well-developed and relatable characters. Although I may not have agreed with all of their decisions, I still felt for Ruby and Emma and enjoyed reading both their perspectives.

The story deals with some very important issues and I thought the author handled these issues well. Though it was a little predictable at times, there were still some very good twists and turns. I was engaged from the start until the very satisfying finish.

I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.

Ruby is married to Tom in what could only be described as a loveless marriage. While he's not a violent man he has a razor sharp tongue that can slice right through her very heart and soul. She is made to feel worthless on the best of days.

When a new job opportunity arrives Ruby is thrilled to accept the offer and to be out from under her husbands thumb. Ruby is even more thrilled when she meets her new very handsome and very married boss, Harry. He is everything she could ever want in a man and it appears he feels the same about her. Over the course of 18 months the relationship blossoms and grows. On a work trip to Paris he finally takes the plunge and asks Ruby to live with him. Here they set into motion how and when they will go about leaving their spouses.

When the day arrives Ruby can hardly contain herself. When Tom takes the news of her leaving better than expected she feels as if her life is finally about to become her own with the man she believes is her soul mate. Ruby rushes to the hotel to wait for Harry but Harry never arrives and Ruby's life will never be the same again.

This was a fun, popcorn popping, fly on the wall kind of read that I always find delightful. Fans of domestic suspense will be sure to devour this come pub date! 4 *be careful what you wish for* stars!

Ruby and Harry work together and are so in love, but married to other people…

They each decide they are leaving their spouses, and they’ll begin their new life together. Ruby leaves first, and she’s waiting at the hotel for Harry, but he never shows. He also won’t take her calls, and she loses her job.

She never hears from Harry, but someone is stalking her. Ruby is in danger.

This was so much fun, pure entertainment, and a great distraction. It was compulsively readable which made it fun. There’s a great mystery at its heart along with solid tension and suspense.

Overall, the pacing wowed me most of all, and I really enjoyed The Closer You Get!

I received a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Ruby leaves her controlling husband Tom to start a new life with Harry who is also her boss. They arranged a time to tell their respective spouses and will then meet in a hotel to start their new life together. Ruby duly tells Tom, leaves but Harry doesn’t turn up. What’s going on? She spends a restless weekend and tries desperately to contact Harry but no joy. She turns up to work on the Monday morning to discover she’s been fired and that Harry is on holiday with his wife Emma to celebrate her pregnancy. What??? What has Harry been up to? Why does he do this to Ruby and ruin her life? Well, this shock is just the start of a sequence of events that overturns lives, who can she to trust, and who is targeting Ruby in a variety of nasty ways. This story is told by Ruby and Emma and this works very effectively.

This is an easy to read, well written book and although the plot is fairly predictable it is nevertheless enjoyable. None of the characters are particularly likeable especially the men although all of the protagonists act in thoughtless ways. I have a grudging admiration for Ruby for sticking with Tom for so long and also for Emma who surprisingly comes through for Ruby when she most needs help.

Overall, a fun read that has twists, a touch of menace and should satisfy fans of the domestic suspense genre.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for the ARC.

The Closer You Get was my first Mary Torjussen novel, and I was quite impressed.

She has an easy, natural style which was so easy to read. I was sucked into the story from page one. It's a novel you can sit and read all the way through, without stopping, which I love. It makes getting through all these ARCs, in a reasonable amount of time, so much easier.

The story itself was fairly predictable, yet I do think the red herrings were decent. The characters, none of which were exactly likable, were very well fleshed out and defined. Told from dual narratives, those of Ruby and Emma, I genuinely liked the directions this story took. I'll definitely be reading more of Torussen's books in the future.

Available for purchase in the United States on April 21st.

Ruby works as a PA for Harry. They’re in love. The only problem is, both of them are married. They decide to leave their spouses and start a life together. Everything is planned intricately...down to telling their spouses at the same time. After Ruby lets her husband, Tom, know she’s leaving, she heads to the hotel where she is supposed to meet Harry. Only, he never shows. He doesn’t respond to her messages, she’s fired from her job, and she has nowhere to live.

That’s all I’ll say about the plot, because this is a case of “the less you know, the better”. I was hooked on this book and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough as the twists took it in directions I didn’t see coming. It’s a fun, delicious thriller that kept me guessing all the way to the end. I’ve never heard of author Mary Torjussen before reading this, but she is now on my list of authors to look out for!

(4.5 Stars) THE CLOSER YOU GET is a wonderfully tense and twisted domestic thriller that had me on edge from the start. This tale of a workplace affair gone wrong is told from the POVs of Emma and Ruby, the wronged wife and the “other woman.” Of course, as it turns out there’s more going on than meets the eye! I enjoyed getting the perspective of both of these flawed and compelling women.

This was a gripping and entertaining read that had my stomach in nervous knots several times. The tangled web of lies and manipulation these characters created had me hooked, and how it all played out in the end was quite satisfying. Highly recommended to fans of domestic suspense!

Ruby is married and having an affair with her boss, Harry. They keep this secret arrangement for a year until they both decide to leave their spouses. Together, they select a date and location to begin their new lives. When that day arrives, Ruby goes to their hotel but Harry never shows up.

Harry is not answering her phone calls and Ruby begins to panic. She no longer has a home and money is dwindling after losing her job. Tom is surprisingly understanding with kind words and offers her money . Ruby's resolve doesn’t waver while she scrambles to find temporary work and a meager apartment. While she tries to put her life back together she develops a feeling of being watched and her job interviews are sabotaged. Ruby begins to suspect that her bad luck is connected to her affair.

The Closer You Get is the second novel that I have read by Mary Torjussen. This book is filled with betrayal, jealousy, scorned spouses, and desperation. I enjoyed the story with its fast pace and dual narrators.

Tense and addictive. Mary Torjussen has written a captivating and engaging thriller. Ruby and Harry are in love they want to spend the rest of their lives together and live happily ever after. Sound sweet, right? Well not so fast, you see Ruby and Harry are married to other people. And in order to get their “happily ever after“ they need to leave their spouses and that is just what they plan to do. That is until... they don’t. Well at least Harry doesn’t, and he fails to tell Ruby that he has changed his plans. So after Ruby packs her boxes and tells her husband she’s leaving, She heads to the hotel where she is supposed to meet Harry and there is NO Harry to be found. Ruby is unable to contact him and for one long weekend she holds onto hope. That is until Monday and when her life starts to unravel. No man, no job, no house,. Not only that someone is spreading salacious rumors about Ruby making it impossible for her to find a new job and to top it off it appears as though someone is stalking her and sending her creepy messages. How could her life have fallen apart so quickly? And who is to blame?

Oh Ruby... I definitely felt for the girl. Her husband was a complete ass and her beloved Harry was nowhere to be seen. But maybe this was all for The Best Ruby wanted to get out of her loveless marriage anyways, but now Tom is acting like the man she fell in love with. What a hot mess! This book had the perfect amount of tension and kept me engaged throughout the entire story. What was going to happen to Ruby next? I had to know. I also had to know who was screwing with her life. Torjussen did a marvelous job of leading me in one direction and then taking me in another. An entertaining story with a satisfying ending.

(4.5 rounded up!) What fun!😈 This is EXACTLY what I’m looking for when I pick up a “twisty” psychological thriller! Lots of holy crap moments but even in between the pacing was perfect- it never lagged.. The characters were not at all 1 dimensional (as far as simply “good” or “bad”)- it’s told from 2 pov’s & both are just as interesting as the other.. I couldn’t put it down- & I really enjoyed the ending! This was totally what I needed right now!😁

The Closer You Get is Mary Torjussen’s third psychological thriller and a solid and addictive piece of suspense fiction right from the off. Personal assistant Ruby Dean and her boss Harry Sheridan decide to leave their marriages to begin a new life together after an eighteen-month long affair. Ruby is relieved having been plucking up the courage to leave her emotionally abusive husband, Tom, for a while. So she informs Tom that it’s over between them and off she trots. However, Harry never arrives at their agreed meeting place, a local hotel, Iibut Ruby holds out hope that there’s a good explanation for it. She plays possible scenarios over in her head. Then she returns to work and finds herself fired and discovers that Harry and his wife, Emma, have embarked on a romantic holiday to celebrate Emma’s pregnancy. Ruby struggles and absolutely everything she tries to do blows up in her face. She even considers returning to Tom but luckily decides against it. With no job, no stable home and the fact that she is receiving threatening messages can she find her feet again after all of the devastation?

As far domestic suspense novels go this is great with an extremely tense plot, an engaging cast of characters and a twisty narrative with some unpredictable moments. There was never a dull moment and the breakneck pace made this a fun, fast and highly entertaining thriller. The writing style draws you in, captures your interest and never lets you go until the end; this is storytelling at its finest. The icing on the proverbial cake was that it was told from both Emma and Ruby’s perspectives making it fully rounded and riveting to see both women’s thoughts and feelings. There are places where it is a little predictable but for the most part, it manages to provide some surprises and I found it flowed so beautifully that it was tough to place down. This is the perfect escapist read for our strange times as it doesn’t require too much brainpower. It’s cleverly crafted and revolves around issues of love, hate, domestic abuse, manipulation, secrets, lies, betrayal, deception and jealousy making this an intense and red herring-filled story. Many thanks to Canelo for an ARC.

Entertaining and scandalous!
Buckle up. Mary Torjussen has written a fabulous domestic suspense/thriller that will take you on one-heck-of-a-crazy-ride with her female narrators Ruby Dean and Emma Sheridan. Their lives, their husbands lives, their marriages, are forever changed when Ruby tells her egotistical, emotionally abusive husband Tom “it’s over,” and moves out.
Ruby had been having an affair with her boss Harry Sheridan for 18-months. She was to meet up with him to start a new life. He was to tell his wife Emma he was leaving her too. That was the plan anyway. Harry never showed up. Ruby is now homeless and jobless.
These are only the least of her problems, as I soon found out.. there’s someone stalking and causing turmoil in her life. Scared and afraid, she wants to reach out to someone for safety, but has no one. Everyone appears to be guilty of something.
Lies, jealousy, secrets, and mind-blowing manipulation cause a catastrophe that ends in irreversible consequences.
The Closer You Get was such a fun and entertaining story that I read it straight through. Great for domestic suspense readers.

Ruby and Harry have fallen in love and want to be together. Harry is her boss and they have been seeing each other for 18 months , but unfortunately they are both married to other people!! They plan the day that they will both leave their spouses and meet up in a hotel to start their exciting new lives together.

Ruby arrives at the hotel teeming with excitement, but starts to worry when Harry does not turn up. Hoping to see him at work she arrives to find out she has been fired and that darling Harry has taken his pregnant wife away for a holiday!!

They say “revenge is a dish best served cold” well what has Ruby left to lose now she has lost her lover, job and near enough everything else. I was rubbing my hands with glee that Ruby was going to stand up for herself!!

I absolutely adored this book. The twists and mystery’s along the way kept me riveted.

A must read that will not disappoint

I’m a sucker for dysfunctional relationships so I really enjoyed this story!

Ruby is devastated after being ghosted by her married affair partner. She left her husband at his urging but then he stayed with his wife Emma. She’s shocked at the unexpected turn of events - this was NOT the plan - what happened and why won’t he return her calls?

Told in the first person from both Emma’s and Ruby’s points of view, there’s more to both women and their marriages as the story unfolds. They both undergo personal journeys with a few twists to reach a satisfying conclusion.

I really like this!

This was my first Mary Torjussen book and am I kicking myself for not reading her books sooner. The Closer You Get is a crazy, twisted psychological suspense thriller and I was hooked from the first chapter. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and needed to know what would happen next.

Harry and Ruby have fallen in love as they work together. Problem is that they are both married to other people. They plan to leave their spouses and start a new life together. But of course, things do not go as planned and Ruby’s life is turned upside down in every way. Told from alternate points of view from the 2 wives you have to read this to believe it

What a twisted tale this was! Mary Torjussen cranks up the psychological suspense in her novels through a string of small moments that leave the character (and the reader) feeling slightly off-kilter. I couldn’t put this down! A must-read for psychological thriller fans.

Ruby and her boss Harry are in love. Neither meant for it to happen, but they developed feelings and an instant connection over shared time together, and neither has been happy in their current marriages for some time. Now, they are ready to finally tell their spouses they are leaving them and in a few short hours they will reunite at a hotel and begin their new life together.

Though Ruby has been terrified of her controlling husband for years, she is emboldened by Harry’s love and support. So she does it. She leaves work, packs her car, and waits for her husband to get home. But when she arrives at the hotel later, Harry isn’t there. In fact, she waits all weekend and Harry never shows. Something must have happened, right? She’ll be able to talk to him Monday morning.

Only when Ruby arrives at work on Monday morning, her badge doesn’t work and she soon finds out she has been fired. Now, alone and jobless, Ruby tries to put together the pieces of how things went so wrong. Trapped in a low budget apartment and blacklisted from any jobs, Ruby still can’t reach Harry. Still, at least she isn’t back with her husband.

But then strange things begin to happen. Ruby is convinced someone is breaking into her place and following her.

Who is stalking Ruby? And what happened with Harry?

As Ruby struggles to put the pieces together, she finds herself fighting for her survival. Someone has it out for her, and she isn’t safe until she finds out who it is…

I absolutely loved this book! Definitely a keeper for me, and one I have been recommending to friends who love psychological thrillers as much as I do! The number of twists and turns kept me guessing the whole time. It was so hard to figure out who was good and who was bad—so many clues that I was mulling over until the very final reveal. A slam-dunk and reminded me why I love Mary Torjussen! Can’t wait for whatever she writes next!

Thank you to Berkley Publishing for my copy. Opinions are my own.

"Startled, she looked up. In the hall mirror she saw the reflection of someone staring through the window at her.

She knew they had seen everything."

The Closer You Get by Mary Torjussen

Who is "she" and what is "everything"? What did "she" do? Who saw her do it? And why is there someone staring at "she" through the door anyway?

I'll tell you, this book was just what little ole me needed last night. Locked at home because of corona virus and slowly losing my mind (just kidding..sort of), I wanted a fun and entertaining thriller that keeps one's interest from the beginning to end. And that is what I got.

In "The Closer You get", Ruby sits in a hotel room, waiting for her married lover. They have both decided to leave their respective spouses and run off together. So she waits..and waits..

Said lover never shows. But why? You will have to read this book to discover the answer to that and many other interesting questions.

I could not go to sleep until I finished this. It has a wonderful plot that goes nothing..absolutely nothing..like one might assume. It is a smart and provocative read and I loved it.

And it is about so much more than infidelity. Do not be fooled into thinking this is your average every day thriller. The characters go through alot here and do much growing and self reflection. I was so glad to be able to read this!

SPOILERS..Just a tiny one:

Only quibble..a certain character does get what is coming to them but we, the reader, do not see it happen. And I so wish we had! This character does not die or anything but is such a despicable piece of vermin I really would have liked to see and read more about their fall from grace. Even though we know it happens..ooohhh man I just could not stand this character.

END OF SPOILER.

FYI..Half the book is narrated by Ruby and half by another lady. Who is that other lady? Read the book and find out! Four stars for a fun and really well written Domestic thriller!

I absolutely loved how this book unfolded slowly across every chapter and in ways that were genuine and believable. This is one of those rare thrillers whose plot feels as though it could happen to someone you know. Love, jealousy, manipulation - it's all in there. This book is more than a thrill ride of twists and clever plotting - it hits home and stays with you.

The Closer You Get by Mary Torjussen will keep you really close to this book until you finish as well as on the edge of your seat. Why is it that we like to read stories of betrayals, deceptions and secrets? Ruby and Harry work together and they fell in love. The madly, truly forever kind of love that wraps you up so tight that all you can think about is each other. So they make an arrangement to leave their spouses on the same day and meet up in a romantic hotel room to start their new life together. Ruby follows through and heads to the hotel, only Harry never shows up. He will not answer her calls or texts and she is left worried and frantic over what happened to him.

She shows back up to work again and gets fired...and someone is a little less tactful than they should have been and slips up about knowing about what happened with Ruby and Harry. She finds an apartment and moves from the house she shared with her husband. Strange things start happening and she does not know who to suspect. Is her husband stalking her? Why won't Harry call her back?

The plot moves quick and this story is told through different perspectives. I do not want to go into too much detail on the plot. The story gets really complicated and the characters are pushed to their limits on what they can and cannot handle. Mary Torjussen is great at building the tension throughout the novel. The more independent Ruby becomes, the stranger her life becomes. Terrific suspense building and viewed from the eyes of two vibrant women.

I highly recommend The Closer You Get and it is definitely deeper than a beach read... my mind is thinking of all the themes that come up in this novel.. but I do not dare mention any more than I already have. The story, the ending, the way that everything circles back in different parts of the book...well done!

Thank you to NetGalley, Canelo publishing, and author Mary Torjussen for the temporary, digital advance review copy for me to read and enjoy. As always, my opinions are my own.

The Closer You Get was such a fun and entertaining story that I read it straight through. Great for domestic suspense readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Many thanks to Berkley Publishing Group for the free copy in exchange for an honest review!
"In the hall mirror she saw the reflection of someone staring through the window at her. She knew they had seen everything."

I was very pleasantly surprised by this one.

So, what's this book about?
Coworkers Ruby and Harry are in love--but they're married to other people. They decide to tell their spouses that their marriages are over and to start their new lives together. Ruby, who has wanted to leave her controlling husband for a while, tells him she's leaving him and waits at the hotel where she and Harry are to meet. But Harry never shows up.

Suddenly, Ruby's life has fallen apart, and she's lost everything. Harry won't answer her calls, and she's fired from her job. She finds a cheap apartment in a run-down part of town, all the while wondering what happened to Harry.

Just as Ruby thinks she's hit rock bottom, strange and menacing things start to happen--someone is sneaking into her apartment, and someone is following her home late at night--and she is going to have to fight for her survival.

I don't usually like to read marriage / life drama thrillers because real life is dramatic and chaotic enough but when Berkley offered me this, I decided to give it a chance.

I was not let down. It had a slow start but around the halfway point when spooky things started to happen, I really got invested and by the end, I was on the edge of my seat.

Overall, this book was thrilling and engrossing. Highly recommended!

I really hate to be that person because this book has so many positive reviews, BUT it just didn't work for me.
Everything about this book was meh from plot to characters to the ending. I kept waiting for something to happen, and it never delivered. There wasn't any suspense. There wasn't any thrills. The "twists" were lackluster.

My honest opinion: Skip this book and read 'The Wife Between Us' or 'The Wife Stalker' instead.

What a fun read - precisely what my mind needed to be occupied with today. Btw, someone had to tell me that today was Friday because I was convinced it was Saturday.... When I first started this read, I instantly thought this to be a slow burn suspense. Sometimes you just know right away, right? But the thing is, it is and it isn't.

This is a domestic drama, starts off at a prance and then trots to the finish. While this isn't really something new in terms of plot, the pacing had me engaged for the entirety and the red herrings are plentiful! I enjoyed every single little piece as it was put together with the rest of the pieces that led us to a few reveals. While these aren't 'slap you in the face' reveals, they do raise your eyebrow. Welcome to the minds of Ruby and Emma, the wives involved and both of them surprised me, but definitely more one than the other. Have no idea what I'm talking about? READ THIS BOOK. *wink*

OMG. This domestic thriller with its drama and suspense was exactly what I needed to keep my mind occupied. Author Mary Torjussen kept me so focused on the story that I hardly blinked. I just had to know the truth. And wow. Just wow.

With the world crisis and suffering from vertigo today, Siri read out the story for me. I thought this book would work out brilliantly as an audiobook. Ruby and Harry were going to leave their spouses and spend life together. Harry didn't turn up after Ruby bid goodbye to her controlling husband. Later she found some truths about Harry which threw her off.

The Closer You Got, the farther the truths were. I thought the author played me brilliantly when she made me chase after the characters to get to their truths. Each one wore a cloak made of shadows where the truth and lies shone at different times.

The Closer I Got, the more intrigued I was. The author had sprinkled the prose with suspenseful scenes which came just at the right moment to make this book a cut above the routine domestic thrillers. Each character lied, yet spoke the truth.

The Closer I Got, the more I couldn't leave my kindle alone. I had to know the truth at any cost, that was the most fun I had over the weekend. A midnight read/listen that it was, the story was well worth the sacrifice of my sleep. An entertaining read.
