Why writing a book on banking? And why writing a book on banking for beginning students of all ages of the subject “Fundamentals in Banking”? The answer is simple, the idea to write a book on Banking for beginners came in 2018 when I taught a course at St. Martins Institute for Higher Education in Malta covering the subject “Fundamentals in Banking” for a Diploma Course Program. Initially, The subject grew on me and after a short while, I was fascinated with the idea to write a book on a vast subject, which is complex at least and which became highly controversial around the world in recent years. I recalled the many conversations I had with academic as well as social friends and students about banking, financial systems and monetary policy and I had noticed the many different very diverse views on the subject. Finally, my own children, I notice how little school or university teaches them about our financial system which supports or economic system and economic well-being so much. Besides the private views, the general more system relevant view has been my own driver for writing the beginners' book.
