Conflicted

Rate this book

Just when Freya thought her world couldn’t get any darker, the unthinkable happens; an attack on the dome.

When Freya is too close to the attack for Victor’s comfort, he reveals a new element of her duties and an entire second level of their world. Hidden in the military underground, she trains to take her safety into her own hands.

She soon discovers Victor’s motivations have less to do with her safety and more to do with turning her into a weapon against the rebellion.

Fueled with anger, hurt, and fear, Freya leaves the security of the State House walls. Her life spins in a new direction, and she finds strengths she didn’t know she possessed and a long trail of deceit and lies.

Compliance is all she’s ever known. Now, her future is conflicted.

Got bored

So the plot was fine, even though the FMC is a bit dense, I could forgive this if the characterisation was good enough, but it wasn't. The whole book had Freya alternately crying, reminiscing and mulling over the truth, it just dragged on and on and nothing happened. The relationship with Lewis had the potential to be twisted and interesting, but ended up being dull and annoying, while the only other significant relationship was ursa who just seemed like a Freya echo. I think I am too old for this series, I still don't understand why everyone admires Freya and finds her so special, she seems bland, juvenile and lacking in character, a perfect little sheeple. Anyways, I'm done, DNF @80%.

Another good addition to this series. I was a bit frustrated with Freya once more. In the first book Colin clearly warned her not to listen to the State and the first thing she does in this book is listen to them. She discounts him far too easily and I found it really infuriating at times. I liked his character and kept waiting to find out how he would return to the story.

With that said, this is a solid addition to the series. But for someone who is supposed to be so smart, she sure is gullible and naïve. Still worht the read and I'm already blazing my way into book 3!

When an author sets out to write a seven novel series, she'd better make sure she has enough story to fill seven novels. This one doesn't. This is the second book in the series and she's already adding tons and tons of filler. I don't think I'll continue the series unless someone puts them on sale really, really cheap.

Meh

Lacks character development. Heroin is rather annoying. No real insight to how it is living in the dome. Very boring conversations. Taking forever to read because it’s not a page turner. Idea is good, execution could have be pen so much better.

Another great book in this series. Although hard to live up to my love for Compliant, it is a good step in Freya’s growth. I actually like that she is very introspective and emotional, I was able to connect to her well.
