I have to say I'm getting pretty bored with this story. This one did not do it for me at all. I love Finch and his crew, love the premise of the series, am not enjoying the weird twisty repeat of insane woman and world domination. I'm having a challenge even picturing this world, so there is a disconnect. And seriously...a book a month!? I'm getting over reading the shortest novels, a week max...but hey only need to wait a couple weeks and the next one comes out. This whole series could have been five good books instead of this never ending mini reading. I'm in it now after what, 15 books? So I'd like to see the big pay off soon.
Finch continues to be controlled while searching for a way out.
I seem to alternate between liking Finch and disliking his story. For me, the redeeming features in earlier books of his story led to his story entwining with his sister’s and the rest of her friends. In this book, his friends did not play an active role, they did as he told them and their feelings and wishes were tepid and unexplored. Perhaps, part of my dislike stemmed from my reaction to Kaya and her Father, Ovid, both of who struck me as one note. I might have enjoyed this book more if it was less repetitous and didn’t seem as if it’s only purpose was to extend the series, not enhance the story.
Ahhhh finally finished the book. Hands up who didnt see this happening. Its the same old stuff being churned out and its becoming dire and irksome. Ill give the next book ago and thats it im done. Sorry Finchy boy but i just cant.
I keep reading this series because I love the characters, and the world Bella Forrest has created. I don’t expect great literature, and that’s not what I get, but the writing in this book stooped to a new low.
These books are written in first person narration, and one of the fun elements of the series is that Forrest always features the voice of a new character, in addition to Finch, our hero, in alternating chapters. Unfortunately, this book in the series featured Kaya, princess of Atlantis.
Why was that so bad, you ask? Because Forrest wrote Kaya’s voice in such a stilted manner, overflowing with adverbs, that her chapters could be used as case studies in a writing class for how NOT to write.
It was truly painful to slog through.
I hope I never have to read another chapter from Kaya’s POV again.
This and the previous two books could have been one book. Edit out some of the filler where the characters repeat the same stuff over and over. Seems like the author is dragging it out simply to charge more money for more books. The books are included on Kindle Unlimited or I wouldn't be reading them. Not worth $5 each tbh.
I loved the Harley Merlin books. I liked the first finch book but this one is ridiculous. I sure hope the next one is the last one. I hope it’s better than this one.
So, apparently I've been reading this for two and a half months....I've read eight other books in that time, so this is probably more about my reading list management than the actual story. That's not to say this hasn't got its flaws.
As I suspected, this probably could have been merged with the last one with some cuts. Both books are centered around the coming nuptials of Kaya, (whose name I forgot halfway through reading--which is very rare for me) a character who wasn't properly introduced until book 14 and first appeared in book 13. Kaya is also a POV character. It's not that great. I don't think it really added much to her character. She just seems to be there for a few things Finch can't witness himself. Also, her father, Ovid, is one of the worst characters in the series.
Unlike the last one, this book has a clear climax (with a really odd timeline leading up to it though it over all feels like the storytelling equivalent of forcing a square peg in a round hole), but the ending is a crap cliffhanger like so many of the books in the series. It feels like Forrest just ran out of steam and called it a day because it looked close enough to her signature cliffhanger. Either that, or she doesn't have enough faith in her readers to trust us to pick up the next one without some sort of cliffhanger. (Although, to be fair, I'm not the only reader who may have dropped the series if it wasn't for how rapidly she churns these out and the fact that they're free with a Kindle Unlimited Sub).
One thing I've started to notice is that Forrest's descriptions aren't really anything to write home about at best and downright boring at worse. There's a scene early on where Finch and Ryann are making out, and it's compared to fireworks, and my eyes sort of glaze over and I started skimming, but this could be more of a me thing again. I also skimmed another "romantic" scene where Erebus tries to hire some Atlantean singers to serenade Kaya. This is not a good look for a series that is stuffed with PG or (very tepid) PG13 romantic B plots (if it's not outright supernatural romance), especially one on the fifteenth book. From a writer who wrote over 100 other books.
Another big thing is that Finch's friends (who I like better than Harley's) were conspicuously in the background. Ryann locks herself away for most of the book, and most of her (few) scenes she spends on the verge of tears or locking lips with Finch. Nash, Luke, and Melody are a bit more active, but most of the time they are taking action while away from Finch, who is often acting on his own as well. Davin and Erebus spend more time with Finch and Kaya than Finch's friends.
I cant believe finch has been forced to actually marry Kaya and I have no idea what he's going to do after being forced to drink that love potion.
I felt really bad for Erebus this book and I have started liking him more recently as he seems better than Lux although he is still kinda evil.
I don't remember much that happened in this book though I do hope the series ends soon as Kaya seems to turning into a Katherine part 2 which just seems a bit repetivtive. At least Davin wasn't in this book too much though so that was good.
Didn't really like Kayas chapters because she just seem really stuck up and delusional. She doesn't have the crazy fun and charm Katherine's chapters had as a villakn.
Excited for the next book not sure where it's going to go though. It was good finch managed to get a message out to Harley though.
Finch has been very careful – as much as Finch possibly CAN be careful – to do everything that the crazy Child of Chaos, Erebus, wants him to do. But Erebus is the one who cornered Finch into getting him into Atlantis to vie for the hand of Princess Kaya, soon to be Queen of all Atlantis. The only problem is, Erebus is already married. And Erebus’s significant other – a.k.a. his WIFE – gets wind of Erebus’s plans and stows away with Ryann, Finch’s love interest.
But Kaya outsmarts them all: according to the Atlantean Legend of the Luminary, Finch is the fulfillment of a prophecy that will return Atlantis to its former glory … above the surface of the ocean. However, in order for that to happen, Kaya must marry Finch. And in order to make the marriage work, Kaya and Finch must be placed under a love spell which causes each of them to experience amnesia so that Kaya forgets the love she previously felt for Erebus, and Finch forgets his love for Ryann.
And then Ryann and Finch’s other friends – Melody, Luke and Nash – try to convince Finch that he loves Ryann and what they are there to do. But Finch has no memory of anything. And (now) Queen Kaya begins to turn against his friends.
Will Finch and the Gang break free and make their collective way out of Atlantis?
I actually really like the characters Bella writes. I like the imagination of the worlds created and the twist on curses and mythology etc.
But for the love of god, please stop making these series so bloody long!!!! I can't take it. I start off utterly enthralled and gripped and by book 6 I am ready drifting... I think I'm done with this series. I don't care what happens to any of them anymore.
Sorry Finch! I love your inner monologue. I love your gremlins. I hate your love interest arc though. But we had a bloody long run. It's not me, it's you.
This is the 15th book in the series. There is all the magic, your favourite characters except the original Muppet babies , Finch and his dry humour. Team still in Atlantis trying to find a way home . Finch is now a future groom, Erebus wooing is not working and Lux not helping . So still a good read but the cliff hanger are now starting to grate and I feel as if the storyline is now begin ing to feel stretch to fill more books . I am still in the book and.would like to read the next book
Mais um fantástico livro da saga Harley/Finch Merlin. É sempre divertido acompanhar as aventuras de Finch e dos seus amigos. Só tenho pena que tenha acabado desta maneira, ele merece ser feliz!
Another amazing book from the series Harley/Finch Merlin. It's really funny to follow all the adventures that Finch and his friends have. I am so sorry for everything that happens to Finch, he deserves to be happy!
The Finch series is just as exciting, dangerous, adventurous, fast paced and exhilarating as the Harley series was. Definite 5 star quality. A lot of misery for sure. Poor Finch gets the short end of the stick way too often. Lol I thought for sure he would've been able to somehow get out of the wedding at least !!! But no, he's now married to Kaya! So the next book should be really good !!!
I feel like the author is really milking this series for all its worth. That said, she does a great job of building characters and creating alternate universes. But an editor, and combining these books into one or two, would be much appreciated. This is BOOK 15 and the story isn't finished. And I hate the whole cliffhanger, you have to read the next one to find out the end of a particularly edgy scene, thing. So 3 stars instead of 4.
This is driving me nuts. I really want to slap Davin and Erebus upside the head sooooo badly and now Kaya deserves a damn good kicking too, it makes me wonder if she's distantly related to Katherine Shipton, she definitely has her evil gene. I'm routing for Finch and Ryann they deserve a happy ending after all this shed Maya deserves a is way ticket to Davy Jones locker.
My heart goes out to Finch and Ryann, they just can’t seem to get a break. I really do despise Kaya for doing what she did. I do hope it comes back to bite her you know where. I’m really hoping the potion doesn’t work on Finch. There has to be some light at the end of the tunnel. Can’t wait to read the next one.
Like all Bella Forrests books the imagination of the plots and characters are amazing. This book keeps you guessing as well as feeling for the characters especially Finch. Can't wait for the next instalment, want to say a big THANK YOU to Bella for making my reading experience the best 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
He never ceases to amaze me!! Great story with lots of sneaking, brain always churning, white lies, mimicking, but his brain is always churning through different scenarios. Even if he doesn't pick the right one, he did think about it. Looking forward to #16 to see how he's going to get out of this latest snafu. Great job. Thank you.
Harley Merlin: Finch Merlin and the Everlasting Vow
I am saying it again Bella Forrest is one hell of an author! So far I have read ALL of the Harley Merlin books and NOT ONCE have I been disappointed. I honestly don’t know how she does it but she does. I will/have been recommending them to anyone and everyone as a great read.
As with all the books in the Harley Merlin/Finch Merlin series, each one leaves you wanting more! I’ve been looking for a series to fill the gap between my love for all things magical and also keep me in my toes as with most mystery/thrillers I read. These are perfect. This didn’t not disappoint.
I would've given this a 5 star, but the ending sucked. Not the writing itself, but more because of what happened to Finch! Poor guy just can't catch a break! I really hope that changes at some point and that Erubus, Kaya, Lux and anyone else who has made Finch's life a misery get what's coming to them!
The series continues with Finch Merlin in the world of Atlantis and, as typical, up to his neck in trouble. I won't leave any spoilers but as I've now finished Book 15 of this series and looking forward to the next, that should be enough to ensure folks that I enjoy the series. As with the others before this, I highly recommend the read
I found myself struggling to finish this, and I'm finding it difficult to write this review. I may have saturated my brain with the Merlin/Shipton universe, and need a break to read something a little different. I'll definitely come back to this series, as I'm curious to find out how things resolve (assuming they actually do, of course!), but it won't be for a few months, I think.
Each book in this series has become less a book that is part of series. Instead, they are becoming long drawn-out chapters of what is beginning to become a boring never-ending tale. I am hoping to be able to get through to the end but it's beginning to wear on me and starting to feel more like a homework assignment rather than reading for pleasure.
Finch and his friends are trying everything they can to find a way out of Atlantis and to help Finch escape Erebus and Ryann escape Lux. They are becoming desperate and so far everything is just getting more complicated with repercussions for their own world. Finch initially found Atlantis amazing but is coming to view it very differently.
This book was a treat so much action love seeing abit of the old finch. It is crazy, no-one messes with a merlin. Would never have guessed some of the things in this book. Erabus and Davin you are both slime balls. I have loved finches story.
I love the Finch Merlin books & this one has to be one of my favourites so far. Finch sure hasnt had it easy, but he still makes me laugh & he certainly knows how to hold his own. I'm looking forward to the next one - and not in a good way - argh, so tense!
