M.D. Massey describes himself as the prototypical INTJ. His eclectic background provides him with a rich tapestry of experiences to draw on when crafting fiction, as evidenced by the believable worlds and relatable characters he creates.
As a former Army combat medic (91B), professional martial arts instructor (Krav Maga, JKD, FMA), and women's self-defense instructor, he possesses a unique understanding of close combat, firearms, and criminal violence that few authors can match. This knowledge provides an element of realism to the Druidverse™ novels, setting them apart from other fantasy series.
Mr. Massey lives in the Texas Hill Country with his family and a huge American bulldog that keeps him company while he writes. When he's not in his office or at the local coffee shop writing, you can find him in his garage pummeling inanimate objects or knife-fighting with his friends.
Fantastic book, there were a bunch of hilarious things to read in this book. I hope there's another book in the series cause I love seeing all the things Colin does with his life. 5/5.
From the first page of this new book of novellas to the last page I was entertained. Colin is at his best as the irreverent druid who must fight to the finish to get his date, Janice's grandmother's ancient artifact back from a ten foot tall, skinny evil demigod who eats children. It ends not as you would expect. Crowley gets in on the act as he tries to simply get his comic books to feed his addiction. He also winds up in a mess of trouble as he finds out he must do a good deed in order to keep his mainline of comics going. Last, but not least, Larry the chupacabra, in all his flea-bitten glory as he gets Colin to help him as his ex tries to run him down. Larry's ex is very powerful, tricky and evil so he calls in a few of his friends. Colin and the junkyard will never be the same. For fans of Colin McCool, you can't go wrong on this new novel, by one of my favorite authors.
I have to admit I'm biased add i have loved the Junkyard Druid series since i first discovered it. These three sort stories were perfect though for where they were placed in the timeline. They were also well written with the right of humor to offset the serious peril that Colin and his friends and frenemy are regularly in. I have to say being a native of South Louisiana and old enough too ferment the old Dunkin' commercial, I loved the time to make the beignets line from the first short story. Overall, an excellent set of short stories filling in some of the in between times for stonewalling and Crowley.
I was actually a bit disappointed in this book of short stories. I have enjoyed this series so far, but I think that if I had not already been heavily invested into Colin and his crazy adventures - this book would not have caught my interest. Definitely I think that if this had been the first book in the series, I would NOT have continued onto book 2. But, alas - I am already 5 books in - so it made it easier to give it a bit more leeway.
So, there are three stories that are a bit on the "light on credibility" side, yet if you are already invested in the last druid, then just take it with a grain of salt and read on...….
I love seeing short stories of adventures between the main books. Gives you another view point on stuff that the books don’t always have the ability show.
An excellent collection of short stories! I really enjoyed stepping out of the story lines and getting a sneak peek into the lives of crowley and Colin.
