I love this LN series it's just amazing. It has a bit of everything, great action, deep character development, and amazing relationships. Even the enemies are quite memorable. It has great romance and a very very good progression pace.
It is by no means perfect but what is? You will laugh probably cry at some point as well, and get mad AF at times. This series is just so amazing at making you feel like everything is real. The injustice of the world is something you will be forced to swallow here and it could not be more obvious that indeed the WORLD IS NOT FAIR!!!
This is my review for the entire series because I can't be asked to figure out which chapters correlates to the correct number on the books listed here. Hence I am keeping it spoiler free.
Just trust me when I say you won't regret reading this series.
My favorite web novel of all times. It has 13 volumes currently in 2023, of which I had reached 11-12 around 2021/2022. I will use this to give a review on all the volumes.
The world building is immense and what seems to be cliché and full of plot holes quickly turns into a world so detailed & well built.
I do not exaggerate when I say I've read over a 100k pages of Chinese fantasy novels like this one, but this is the only one that has such great characters. The characters each have their own character arc, with beautiful development. While the protagonist stays in the limelights, it's never too much because the other main characters never lose their shine even over the thousands of chapters.
The romance is beautiful and while it's more of a subplot, that makes it even better as the novel has other focuses. Yet the romance definitely is there and is handled in a great way in my opinion.
The action is thrilling and the choreography of the action is written so beautifully that it keeps you hyped and on the edge of your seat. Didn't lose its thrill in the translation.
The plot is very deep and as you read the plot holes get filled and you learn more and more which makes you want to keep on reading.
There's such beautiful philosophy in the novel that it'll have an impact on your own life and you learn from the struggles of the protagonist and his enlightenments.
This is definitely the greatest web novel out there, the only thing you'll need to give it is time to develop as it's a huge world and a huge story with a lot to be told.
A solid first chapter. It's got a lot of the same tropes as other light novels or LIT RPG's but it's got great humor and a fun protagonist. I like the backup characters but I hope it won't devolve into a "kill everyone who annoys you" book. Those aren't fun for me and a lot of the Chinese light novels lean that way with a protagonist like this who's extremely proud. So far though I'm really enjoying it.
It has lots of humor with intelligent secondary characters and an interesting MC. I’ve read to chapter 1400 when it starts to feel like the typical cultivation novel.
Usual translation difficulties — a characters wife was “implicated”, but all we know is she died (her being “implicated” was specified several times); everything is hyperbolic, a lot of yelling and shouting that other people don’t seem to hear; MC’s friends are only present to make random comments.
Not finding the ‘humor’ other reviews cite, but this is oddly less objectionable than other translated works. The MC, while having the expected arrogance, shows a lot of loyalty to his old friends. He gives them pills and potions to increase their cultivation simply because they are his friends, not something normal for cultivation MCs. A generosity of spirit that makes him easier to root for and read.
Edit after book 3:
Still reading, still struggling occasionally with language/cultural translation.
BUT.
The translator often puts footnotes at the end of chapters that explain things that truly don’t translate. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.
