According to Og the Frog #3

Wildlife According to Og the Frog

Rate this book
In the third book in the spinoff of the Humphrey series, Og and Humphrey head to summer camp to see what's hopping in the wilderness!Og didn't know where he would end up when school was over, but it turns out Camp Happy Hollow is just about the best place ever. Lovely nature is all around, friends from Room 26 are there--including Humphrey!--and camp days are full of exciting activities. Og has lots of new responsibilities, like watching out for Humphrey, helping his fellow campers adjust to being away from home, and encouraging everyone to always try their best. But when one camper lets Og loose at the lake, he is in a tough spot. The lake sure does feel like home, but so does his tank. Plus his human friends need him--and so does Humphrey. Good thing Og has experience in the wild because--BING-BANG-BOING!--this is going to be one hopping summer! Og's frog's-eye view of summer camp is silly, caring, and adventurous--the perfect companion to Summer According to Humphrey.

From kindergarten through graduation, I attended school in Affton, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. Then I graduated from Webster College (now Webster University) in Webster Groves, Missouri. Of course, I majored in English and kept on writing.

After working in advertising in St. Louis, Missouri and in Chicago, Illinois, I eventually moved to Southern California. First, I worked for Disneyland (fun job!) in the advertising department. The monorail whizzed past my window all day long. Then I worked at the Disney Studio in Burbank, where I had another fun job, writing and producing television and radio commercials and theatrical trailers (previews of coming attractions) for everything from re-releases of "Cinderella" and "Fantasia" to "Tex."

When the Disney Channel was started, I became a writer and story editor for WELCOME TO POOH CORNER. Since then, I've written more than 200 episodes of animated and live-action television programs including MADELINE, DOUG, BOBBY'S WORLD, DUMBO'S CIRCUS, THE PUZZLE PLACE, CAMP CANDY, LITTLE MOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, WHERE'S WALDO, FRAGGLE ROCK and ZOOBILEE ZOO. That's right, I write cartoons! I also wrote a number of award-winning afterschool specials and many interactive CD-ROM programs, including the award-winning "Berenstain Bears on their Own," "Richard Scarry's Busiest Neighborhood Ever," and "The Crayon Factory."

A made-for-television family movie I wrote, MARY CHRISTMAS, starring John Schneider, Cynthia Gibb and Tom Bosley, aired on the PAX network in 2002. It was the highest rated movie in PAX history and has aired each Christmas season since then.

I have been fortunate enough to win a Writer's Guild of America Award and three Humanitas Prizes (as well as two other nominations). In 2002, I won a Daytime Emmy Award for MADELINE, after two previous Emmy nominations. More recently, I received the Christopher Award for FRIENDSHIP ACCORDING TO HUMPHREY, many children's choice awards for THE WORLD ACCORDING TO HUMPHREY and was inducted into the Affton (MO) School District Hall of Fame.

I'm so glad Betty Birney is still adding to this series! It is somewhat repetitive to hear the same story from Og's point of view, but my kids love being back in this world and there are enough new aspects to keep it interesting.

Where do class pets go after the school year ends? This year summer camp. This is third title following Og the frog from Room 26 shares Og's first week at summer camp with his fellow class pet Humphrey, the hamster. Og and Humphrey join the kids from Room 26 as they attend summer camp and spend the week away from home enjoying nature. Og and Humphrey are used as rewards to encourage the campers to do good things and split their nights at the various camper's cabins. Og loves being so close to a lake again and enjoys his time in the wild after a camper set him free but realizes he now belongs as a classroom pet not a wild frog. This is a fun addition to the Room 26 classroom series that follow both Humphrey and Og. The title can also stand alone as well. I would recommend this for most juvenile collections and highly recommend for those fans of Betty Birney's Room 26 books.

Children's fiction, contemporary realistic told from a frog's point of view. This series is a spinoff of the Humphrey books written by the same author. It's summer break, and Ms. Mac takes both Humphrey and Og to Happy Hollow Camp. Many of the students from the series are campers at the cabin, though there are several new characters as well. It was fun to read from Og's point of view as Humphrey doesn't always understand Og. The frog liked to sing, couldn't leave his tank on his own (his skin would dry out), and was able to help out some of the kids in ways similar to how Humphrey has. A cute series to read together as a family.

The kid thought it was good. He liked the conversation with the other frogs. Would change that the other frogs thought he was a star frog because he thought it was kind of silly. This was similar to summer according to Humphrey because Humphrey went back for og and Jake and lovey got released. It was different because og couldn’t watch the release and he couldn’t go to haunted hallow

Since Og and Humphrey were in different cabins every night experiencing different things we got to see a whole new set of problems. I have enjoyed all these books. I’m glad we discovered them.

This is the last book in the Og spinoff series. I really like the whistle sideplot. It showed a softer side to Mrs Wright. Anyway it was good book. I really love it Betty Birney would write one book in this series ;a companion to spring time for Humphrey. I wondered what it was thinking during that book.

I enjoyed this book a lot! Betty G Birney again succeeds at teaching relationship skills using classroom pets.
It's fun reading this when you've also read about the same week at camp from Humphrey's perspective.

The Og books aren’t quite as good as the original Humphrey series but it’s still a good read aloud with my son.

This was the first Og book we've read, but it's just as wonderful as the Humphrey books we've read so far! Has great lessons for every day life and prompted thoughtful discussions with my 2nd grader
