I've been institutionalized for a decade, but my new Psychiatrist thinks he can just waltz in and help me.

His confidence is as legendary as the sexy haze of testosterone that surrounds him, but my condition is complicated. And it has nothing to do with his label of transference.

I've worn all types of labels over the years--non-believer, pariah, deranged, orphan... it's all in my file if you care to understand me better.

But the label that seems to have implanted the deepest and garnered the most attention is the one I wear like a Scarlet Letter.

It precedes me when I enter a room and is whispered about like a schoolyard crush.

Paranoid Schizophrenic.

MERCY is a sexy new standalone that explores the taboo relationship between doctor and patient. It's deliciously naughty, while still delivering all the feels readers have come to expect from National Award-Winning Author KC Decker.

One quick glance at the blurb of Mercy is all I needed to know that I had to get my hands on it! A religious cult, a doctor/patient taboo romance, and a paranoid schizophrenic heroine? Yes, please!

Mercy is a twenty year old that's spent most of her life as a ward of the state in a mental health facility as a result of trauma in her childhood brought on by her time in a religious cult. When her longtime doctor and the only father figure she's ever known is forced to resign, she's understandably angry and devastated. Soon after, he's replaced by a man named Sutton, and Mercy's entire life changes forever.

Mercy is my first read from K. C. Decker, so I had no idea what to expect going into this story. That being said, I imagined with the subject matter mentioned in the blurb that this might be somewhat of a dark read overall, but it wasn't. It had a much lighter feeling than I had originally suspected, and Mercy's personality is the primary reason for that. She's very straight forward about everything, and watching her ask Sutton about things like what gives him an erection is enough to make anyone smile.

There's definitely some emotional moments in the story too though. It's almost impossible not to feel for Mercy after everything she's been through. Her resilience and bravery are admirable, and her sense of humor through it all endeared her to me from the beginning.

If you enjoy doctor/patient romances, you should give this one a try. The relationship between Mercy and Sutton is lot fun to read. There's definitely some unethical conduct going on in this story, but I couldn't help but root for the romance anyway. That being said, Sutton's feelings came on a little too quickly for me, and the book ended a little too abruptly. I would have loved an epilogue at least, but I'm still glad I gave this book a chance. Other than those two things, I can't complain. I had a great time with this one, and I would be happy to give more of this author's work a try in the future.

Forbidden romance fans, this one's for you!

I feel like I just got off a roller coaster of emotions. I'll start by saying I struggled through the prologue. It was formal and started to lose me. Halfway through the first chapter... I. Was. Hooked. I think I cried the first 20% of the story.

From the synopsis you know the ethical taboo is Sutton is her psychiatrist. I believed their relationship wasn't a transference, but it felt rushed. Maybe more time had gone by than I realized but I was surprised how soon we get a confirmation of his feelings. On the other hand, it skipped over that type of drama so we could get to other plot points.

The middle had a different feel - a new adult tone and banter between the friends and Sutton. I loved the bond she had with Matty, Veronica and Lyla. It added the perfect levity for such an emotional story. Mercy is naive about a lot of things. She's also boldly curious making her come across as immature, but she's also only 20 years old. This is also when Sutton has figured out Mercy has been misdiagnosed for over 10 years. Information about her past comes out in pieces while the love story takes over.

I actually wanted more specifics about her past. I was left with a lot of questions and although she won an inner battle, I still wanted justice for her. Maybe a book from Sutton's pov?.

Overall, Mercy's story gutted me. K.C. Decker is a new to me author and I'm anxious to read more.

I received a copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books for an honest review.

I really liked the book was a little torn on the romance. the doctor -patient connection. was a little hard for me. Mercy was very vulnerable with her mental health issues and things got a little tricky. Mercy in her innocence had a hard time dealing with Sutton. Sutton being her doctor, had to walk a fine line. It blurred sometimes. I also thought the ending was abrupt. Things wrapped up quickly. All that bring said, the story could have been dark and dangerous but you found yourself rooting for Mercy and Sutton. She had a traumatizing life and you wanted someone that she could depend on to love all her good and bad. Her friends were amazing and you also were rooting for them. Through all the dark mental health issues, the author was able to shine some fun times with her friends. Each book I read by this author has been full of emotion,. Love is not always sunshine and roses.

This book popped my K.C. Decker cherry and what a way to go! Mercy is deliciously taboo. The story line and characters will grab hold of you and not let go. I loved the back and forth between Mercy and Sutton and was rooting for them from the start. You could feel their chemistry! The only thing that would have made this book better was more of Sutton and Mercy once she left the psychiatric hospital. I selfishly wanted more. :)

5 DR. SUTTON STARS!! Wow, I give you a prescription to read this phenomenal book now. Mercy and Sutton will take you on one heck ride through Mercy's life and you need to hear it. Their story will give you all the feels with some naughtiness. This book is so different from my normal reads, which makes it refreshing. I have never read KC Decker before and I think I have been missing out on her fantastic storytelling. You must read this book.

Wow. Just WOW.
K.C. Decker completely blew me away with this book. There is not one single thing bad that I could say about this story, and I think that Ms. Decker dealt the topic respectfully, intelligently, and handled the forbidden aspect perfectly. I can't even explain how refreshing it is to see an author handle such a tough topic SO gracefully.

Mercy is about a young woman named Mercy, who is a ward of the state, and has been in and out of psychiatric hospital, time and time again, with a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
She has been in and out of the institute so many times over the past ten years, that her psychiatrist has grown to be more of a father than a doctor to her.
But, it is during this stay that her doctor, who she referred to as "Sig", had been asked to leave the hospital, and was being replaced. This is so traumatic for Mercy, because yet again, she finds herself being abandoned by someone she loves.

Mercy's new doctor arrives, and he is different than any other doctor/nurse/therapist that she has ever experienced. He challenges Sig's diagnoses of Mercy, and wants to try something new.
It is during these sessions that Sutton get to know Mercy. He sees how brilliant she is, and he also has a feeling these prior diagnoses, and SO much more, are WRONG. Their close encounter's, deep conversations, and new discoveries have patient and psychiatrist very close.

But, no matter what, Sutton never lets his first priority get over run by any feelings he may have towards his patient. He endures, and he does everything in his power to help Mercy heal.

I don't want to give TOO much away, and what I have told you already is only a very small bit of what this story brings to the table. K.C. Decker just showed that you can still do an amazing forbidden, angst filled, doctor/patient, age gap romance, and STILL keep things realistic and respectful. She brought a legitimate reality to Mercy and Sutton's feelings, along with really perfectly explaining Mercy and her growth.
I loved that she brought forth the fact that wrong diagnoses happen ALL the time, and they can be damaging and traumatic in themselves, and often stay with the patient their entire lives.
BUT, even with a wrong diagnoses that sticks with you, if you have a passionate doctor who advocates for you, you can find the strength to heal.
Treatment works.
If you were to pull all the romantic parts out of this story, you would see what a good therapeutic relationship looks like, and what it is like to have a doctor advocate for you and take chances that they feel will make a large difference in a patients quality of life.

I have never read a book by K.C. Decker before, but I know that it will 100% NOT be my last.
&If you aren't too interested in the medical side of things, and are more interested in the romantic relationship, (which I was ALL for. These type of forbidden stories are my absolute favorite!), let me tell you, this book 100% delivers. The Steam was frequent and perfectly placed. I promise, you will probs need a change of underwear after this read.

I honestly cannot wait to see what KC plans to bring in the future...but no matter what it is, I am going to be reading it!
If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. SOOOOO many stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

Age gap
Doctor-Patient Romance
Virgin Girl

Mercy suffers from paranoid Schizophrenia from a very young age. Her mental illness has always kept her in and out of mental asylum. Her parents abandoned her because of it. As a kid she was always being tossed from one foster care to another because people couldn’t deal with her schizophrenia This constant rejection makes dealing with rejection difficult and hides her emotions. Her psychiatrist Dr Siggy has been treating her since she was a child. She considered him as a father figure in her life, so when he resigns from his job she is heartbroken, A new doctor takes Dr. Siggy’s place in the mental asylum and Mercy hates him for it. She is absolutely horrible to him and then the story begins.
description
I love a good Doctor-Patient romance and this did not disappoint me. This book is so much like Medicine Man by Saffron Kent, and I absolutely devoured that book. This book was so similar to that book and maybe that’s why I decided to give it a try. I loved the plot, the writing was good. It gave me what I expected, nothing more or nothing less. There are some little twists and turns in between. Her involvement with a cult from her past that she doesn’t remember much about. But nothing that can overpower the main romance story. I liked Mercy a lot, she had some character in her, a rebellion. She had her own hidden issues which she was kind of reluctant to discover. If I was in her place I would have died to know more about my past, but then that’s me. There is nothing phenomenal about the book that you haven’t read before but if you have read Medicine man and are looking for the same rush once again. Definitely go for this.

★ Finding Mercy ★

—>>> It has been a while since Mercy had arrived at the psych ward as a child with a broken mind, the last ten years under the care of her psychiatrist Dr. Sigmund, her one constant. But now, her solid rock of comfort is suddenly is taken from her, and she finds herself placed under the care of his replacement, Dr. Sutton. While reviewing her file, he comes across information which leads him to believe that she may not have been diagnosed correctly, while fighting very taboo emotions for one of his alluring new patients. Dr Sutton makes extraordinary inroads in treatment already during his first few weeks, but he makes it a priority to set Mercy up for life outside the ward’s walls, as she is soon turning twenty one and timing out with her care as ward of the state.

I was drawn in from the first page of this story and found myself admiring Mercy for her strength, her goodness, her sharp intelligence and wit to have come out on the other side of her horrific childhood experiences more or less whole, after all. I loved the slow-sizzle between Sutton and Mercy as well as the exchanges with fellow Adult Behavioral Unit patients, the handful she has allowed to be close, who are also wonderful support for Mercy. This journey of Mercy finding herself is a great read!

For me, this is KC Decker’s best book so far!

The storyline was interesting and written with great care and respect. The author really did her research and created an amazing story. It is full of emotions and will keep you engaged and turning pages.
I have to say I struggled first couple of pages, but by the second chapter I was completely hooked!

I loved Mercy’s character and really admired her strength after everything she’s been through during her horrific childhood. She was instantly likable with quick wit and I enjoyed the banter between her and Sutton.
I think the forbidden aspect of the storyline was well written albeit a bit rushed at times. But I still absolutely adored Sutton and everything he did for Mercy. It pulled at my heartstrings to see Mercy get the happy ending she most definitely deserved.
The author also did a great job developing side characters and I loved the whole gang of Mercy’s friends.
I wouldn’t mind author writing another book with Mercy and Sutton since I couldn’t get enough of them! And I feel like there’s more questions that could be answered and further developed.

I really think this is author’s best work so far and I gladly recommend it. I look forward to read more and am curious to see what’s next!

I loved the idea of this book. Mercy had me intreged right from reading the blurb and I know it was up my alley. I really liked Mercy and while I struggled some, I found that I had to push through and read the story. I’m glad I did because it was a really good story and a raw look at a character with a mental illness, who learns to cope and overcome her past and prevails. Add in the forbidden aspect with Sutton and I was glued trying to see what was going to happen. Sutton was a great aspect to this story. The way he helped Mercy ..... it melted my heart. I loved the end and glad that Mercy got the ending she deserved.

I struggled with some of the writing. Some scenes seemed to jump from one to the next without the feel of a smooth transition. Like the scenes weren’t done but the author wanted to move on from it. Some times I felt there was alot of internal dialogue that I found myself being taken out of the story. This I just my experience with how I enjoyed the overall story. It’s my first book by this author and I would be willing to try another because the plot was great and I felt like the author did all the right research. 3 stars #2OCCJD

Labelled and misunderstood, whilst passed through foster homes. That's been her life.

Now shes a ward of the state living on a psyche unit.

He looks at her, analyses her, evaluates her. She is more than the label she was given and he desperately wants to help her.

Can the new doctor save her from herself before she ages out of the system..?

Wow, wow wowsers!! I've never read KC Decker before and now I'm truly kicking myself!

What an amazing read! I couldn't get enough of Mercy or Sutton!

Watching her try to entice the good doctor had me chuckling and grinning like a buffoon.

She's truly a sensational character! All that life has thrown at her would grind the best of us down but she continues to display so much strength amazing!

Her inexperience and innocently naughty questions endeared me to her like no other.

I was cheering for them on the inside. Hoping that although it was wrong to cross boundaries that they would anyway because for them it was so right.

I couldn't help but fall in love with them, they are perfect in every way and I'm now quite sad that my time with them has come to an end. I want more!

Finding life and love:
This book deals with some quite dark and distressing subject matter however the overall tone is that of hope, self discovery and healing. It is not depressing at all thanks in part to the wonderful and quirky side characters. Poor Mercy has suffered greatly in her past and it is fun seeing her emerge into herself and the outside world. The attraction between Mercy and Sutton is intense however but as he is her doctor things are greatly complicated. Like Sutton, I too was conflicted over the ethical and moral ramifications however was absolutely thrilled when they finally overcame the obstacles and were able to be together.
I thought the ending was rather abrupt and an epilogue would have helped to round things out and bring more closure. However overall it was an interesting and enjoyable book.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Oh my God. I need all future romance books to be this good. I was hooked from the very first page. It was sexy, smart, and addictive.

Mercy is the most complex character I have come across in a while. I love how her mental illness doesn’t define her, it’s just one part of her. She’s extremely intelligent and interesting. You have to actually have a brain to understand her inner dialogue and I like that a lot.

Dr. Sutton is also extremely well written. You can absolutely sense his inner turmoil and his genuine concern and care for Mercy. Their romance is hot, forbidden, and very very sexy. I loved this book! 5 out of 5 stars!

First of all, this was a really good story. KC Decker has a winner with Mercy, this book is brutal and pulls at your very soul to figure out what is going on. When you have known only one thing all of your life and growing up, it becomes a part of your identity and when Mercy finds out that her life might not be as it seems, that is when the real fun goes down.

All in all if you are looking for a twisted taboo romance with a great story line and amazing characters, I recommend you checking out Mercy right away. I would have given this book 5 stars, but there were a few times where it did not seem as if scenes or thoughts were followed through with and was a bit choppy at the end of chapters, so it drops it down a half point for me to 4.5 outta 5 stars!

PS Thank you to KC Decker and Candi Kane PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

Wow, how have I not read this author before??

This book was incredible! The storyline was intricate and well developed. The author obviously did her research on different mental illnesses and how they manifest themselves, and I enjoyed that this was the primary plot for over half the book. The main characters were both likable and distinct, and I felt their connection. The secondary were also well developed. I loved Mercy's friends and their rec-time conversations were hilarious.

I took off one star because there wasn't much of a climax.

I highly recommend this author and will definitely be reading more of her stories.

A 3.5 star read for me. I liked this story. I believe it’s the first book by this author that I’ve read. I did enjoy the story but for the second book in a while I am reviewing g that I wasn’t a fan of the author’s writing style. I almost didn’t finish. The flow, again, was off for me. I found the story jumped and I had to read and re-read wondering if I had missed something. It was a bit frustrating to say the least. I knew the story would be compelling having read the blurb but the writing style really left me less then happy. I have great respect for all authors and I don’t expect their writing style to always go hand in hand with me but if you skip ahead with no warning, leaving the reader scratching their head it doesn’t make for a happy experience is all I’m saying.

I've read other books by KC Decker and loved her style of writing - she weaves so many different emotions into her stories that it sucks me in and keeps my attention til the very end. Mercy has had quite the life - misdiagnosed, victim to horrible abuses, and SO many emotional scars. Sutton is the young doctor who comes in and recognizes all the potential she has, and helps her uncover all the secrets that have been tormenting her most of her life. What an emotional roller coaster for these two stories. I loved the message that we're all flawed and that's ok. He saw the beauty in her when she thought there was none. Serious determination throughout, all while they fought their undeniable attraction. Wondering what KC Decker will come up with next.

Mercy is a wonderful doctor patient romance. Mercy has been through more then one can imagine in her life. She has been a ward of the state since she was young. She is a survivor and more then her diagnosis. She has fire in her that you will love. Dr. Sutton is amazing and hot. I love how he takes charge when he replaces Mercy's previous doctor patients. He digs deep to help his patients. He recognizes things that have been missed. You feel the chemistry between Mercy and Sutton grow throughout their sessions. It is amazing to watch Sutton push Mercy and her grow so much. This story is more then your diagnosis. It has everything I was looking for and more. I loved this one so much. Hang on to this ride and journey of over coming.

The writing was good but I didn't care for this book at all. Mercy has been screwed over by everyone and it didn't matter how little time someone was in her life they absolutely used her and abused her. Now we have a "forbidden romance" where in a way she is getting used again. I say used again because any romance between a dr and a patient without immediately terminating the doctor-patient relationship to me is being used. I really struggled with that piece of it. I liked the mental health aspect and how she struggled and how the doctor helped but I really struggled when this young woman is just becoming an adult and the doctor is really messing with her head even more in a way. The book is good if this your type of thing but it wasn't mine.

Omg, what a story. Mercy has been a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic since she was a child and institutionalized as a ward of the state just as long. She’s almost 21 and ready to age out of the system when she’s assigned a new psychiatrist who completely changes her treatment and her life as she knows it. This was completely engaging, interesting and riveting and written in such a way that you understand and are able to accept many facets of mental illness. You’re taken on the journey of someone who has always been identified as broken but is forced to pick up the pieces and put them back together into something even better. I highly recommend reading Mercy.

This book is a perfect mix of psychology, romance, kink, and drama that I didn’t know I needed. So good that I read it in one-sitting without bathroom breaks—and that’s saying a lot because Dr. Sutton is a real panty-dropper!

At first I thought this taboo storyline would probably be cringy as fuck. But the mysterious background story of Mercy and her uncertain yet certainly-oozing-with-sexual-tension interactions with Dr. Dreamboat instantly gripped me. I couldn’t put it down.

Recommended for people who doesn’t care about work ethics and has a doctor kink—this book will definitely fulfill your cravings for some patient-doctor steamy situations.

I love every word K.C. Decker has ever put down. When I read this blurb I was absolutely sold on the forbidden/taboo romance aspect and the intrigue of Mercy & Sutton.

This book left me breathless. I could not put it down. Being in a place to see inside Mercy’s head was captivating. I enjoyed the banter between the characters. Mercy’s insistence on “persuading” the good doctor.

What I love most about this story is that it tackles a tough subject in the world of mental illness with grace.

I was rooting for Mercy and Sutton from the beginning and I just loved the ending.

Amazing look into the human soul

I didn't know what to expect when I started Mercy, but it was impossible to put down. KC Decker's writing is phenomenal and right on point to bring the characters in Mercy to life. There is an intuition here that makes Mercy not only believable but had me feeling that I was right there with Mercy and Sutton and her friends. The candor and frankness of mental health is inspiring. My only wish is for a series to be born so I can learn about Matty, Layla, Veronica and Wes.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this doctor/patient romance considering Mercy is a paranoid schizophrenic. Would Sutton be taking advantage of her illness and age difference? Would it be weird to read? Well, it wasn't.

This story isn't a lighthearted read. Mercy has been through some seriously messed-up things, and Sutton helps heal her heart, mind and soul through their therapy. But on the flip side of that, the breakthrough left so many unanswered questions about the other people in Mercy's life. What happened to her parents? Were they sick and twisted, or were they protecting her in some strange way by abandoning her to the care of the system for so long of her life? I wish there was some resolution there.

KC Decker is a new to me author, and I was quite impressed with how she handled the taboo nature of this subject. There was nothing predictable about this book, and it's full of emotions and gut-wrenching truths and revelations.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

3/5🌶️

The synopsis literally made me LOL and my friend theorized the doctor was not real. That would have been a good twist (he is though). I mean, it is sad and there are a lot of possible triggers: pedophilia, cults, doctor/patient inappropriate relations, death, grief but you rarely find things that deal with it so I like that they didn’t shy away from it and the very ending, it was weird but sweet to me.

Mercy is fighting more troubles than she evens knows. Misdiagnosed early, treated as "evil" by family and now a ward of the state. But possibly, maybe, a bright light is in her future. A bit of the forbidden meshed very well with an intimate look at mental illness, Mercy's struggle to overcome her issues and explore her reality is shown through the eyes of one who falls in love.

I liked KC Decker's Jessie Hayes series, so I wanted to read more by the author.
Mental illness is a tricky subject to tackle, but the characters are so human, and their issues make them into what they are.
I like the strong female characters in KC's books, and this is no exception. Mercy's strength makes the book.
I found myself tearing up at several points in the book.
