A FATHER’S PROMISE is the first book in a new series and I loved every minute of it. The story takes place in Bliss, Texas and Mindy Obenhaus describes it so beautifully that I am ready to pack my bags and go see it for myself. What more could you ask for right? A FATHER’S PROMISE deals with so many different emotions that one minute I was giggling and the next tearing up. I love when an author can do that to their readers! Don’t you just love second chance romance stories?

A FATHER’S PROMISE will surely pull at your heart strings and make it very hard for you to put down. If you are like me, you won’t be able to stop until you know what happens to all of these beautiful people in Bliss. Reading how Laurel and Wes responded to each other is very funny since both are so stubborn. Is it possible for them to get a second chance at love if they would just stop and listen to the other? I’m not going to tell you, but I will say that you really should read A FATHER’S PROMISE and get to know this lovable small town. Also, a big secret is revealed that shocks both Wes and Laurel to their cores. That’s all I can say!

A FATHER’S PROMISE is an awesome way to spend the afternoon or evening. I’m so excited to continue with the series and learn more about my new found friends. Once you start A FATHER’S PROMISE you won’t be able to put it down and will find yourself cheering for Wes and Laurel and little Sarah Jane too as they try to navigate their way through a very different and unique situation. Be prepared to have Sarah Jane steal your heart! Mindy Obenhaus will pull you in from the very first page and never let you go!

A Father’s Promise is a great start to this new series set it Bliss, Texas. I thought that the way Wes reacted to finding out that he was a father was simply wonderful. Even though he didn’t believe he should have a family, once he discovered that he had a daughter, he was completely devoted to her.

The way Wes and Laurel related to each other throughout this story seemed very realistic to me. They had a connection through their daughter, but they both felt uncertain about each other. I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop as trust grew between them.

Laurel carried a lot of hurt because of her absentee father. Those feelings and insecurities impacted the way she related to Wes. I thought that the author showed her vulnerability in a very truthful way and I enjoyed Laurel’s emotional journey.

This story was wonderful from start to finish and I am happy that this is only the very first book of the series.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I have read many books by author Mindy Obenhaus and really enjoyed them so I was happy to be able to review A Father’s Promise. I enjoyed Laurel and Wes’s story very much. There was so much for each of them to deal with throughout the story. They both struggle dealing with trust issues. Each has a good support group. And I love Laurel’s extended family!

This story is set in a small town where everyone knows everyone else, and is very family oriented. Irma and Joyce are adorable, what I would give for neighbors like these two fun characters. And the rest, you just need to read this book for yourself. Even though this is a small book, it is packed full of intriguing story. As well as faith woven into the lives of the characters, love, redemption, forgiveness and grace. Now this makes for a very nice story!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Mindy Obenhaus is back with this second chance romance, set in the town of Bliss, Texas.

Laurel Donovan comes to Bliss for a new start, she is befriended by other women who are all active members of the community. Laurel is the mother to a young daughter, Sarah Jane, who is adorable and loved by all. I admired her optimism and strong faith.

Wes Bishop is a Veteran, who wants to make up for lost time with his daughter. I like how he is cool headed and rational, he takes the time to connect with Laurel and Sarah Jane, who adores him. He has changed a lot in the last 2 years, and wants to be a better man.

I loved the friendships in this book and how Laurel's friends and the town all embrace her and her daughter, even playfully fighting over babysitting privileges.

This is a wonderful new series, very entertaining and highly enjoyable. I loved the community of Bliss, and can't wait to return in the future. This is a heartwarming read, with great character interaction, faith, friendships, and family. A fantastic start to a new series, well paced, with great characters that you can cheer for all the way through. You'll definitely want to pick this one up before it's gone!

A Father’s Promise by Mindy Obenhaus is just too wonderful!

The book cover is so beautiful and attractive.

This is the first book of Mindy Obenhaus  that I am reading and this won’t be the last hopefully.

Welcome to a little town called “Bliss” in Texas. I want to live in such a town where everybody knew each other and they are so thoughtful.

I was swiping each page on my screen to read the next word, sentence or paragraph.

Laurel is a good mum, let’s give her some credit. Wes is a character you really need to read about.
I don’t want to ruin the book by giving you spoilers but you really need to read this book.

It is a Christian fiction book,no doubt about it.

One thing I am thankful about in this book is that I get to see fatherhood through Wes eyes. I am so familiar with the love from mothers but this is the first time I am reading in great depth about fatherhood.

I think I finally caught the story behind the book title ” A Father’s Promise”.
I recommend this book to lovers of children especially young parents or parents generally. You will learn a lot from this plot. I promise.

A family is complete when there is a loving father and a caring mother together in a home.

This book needs 7 stars rating please. I read it in one sitting.

This was a sweet romance about second chances, forgiveness and family.

Retired from the Navy, Wes goes to visit his sister in Bliss Texas were he runs into Laurel who he hasn't seen in years since a convention in Las Vegas. Laurel is now a single mom to Sarah-Jane and trying to make a difference in the small Texas town all while trying to keep a secret that could alter lives forever.

Easy to read story with great characters and full of emotion. I loved reading about God's love and his hand in their individual lives. I really enjoyed reading it!

"Dreams were fragile things. One little slip and they could shatter into a million pieces."

Mindy Obenhaus has a way of creating redemptive stories nestled within a delightful small town atmosphere. This inaugural book in her new series set in Bliss, Texas is simply charming and heart-warming. Laurel is a fiercely independent yet tender-hearted single mother, working hard to raise her infant daughter. Wes is a retired navy man, looking for a purpose and a place in the world. He is capable, intelligent, protective, and loyal. Laurel and Wes both have come a long way since they initially met two years ago and now need to figure out how to do life side-by-side since they share a daughter. Their conversations and thought processes are real and down-to-earth; Sarah-Jane's almost-toddler antics are sweet and endearing. There is forgiveness and reconciliation at the core of the plot and the freedom that comes from both is evident throughout the story.

I'm excited to get to know Laurel's friends Rae (Wes' sister), Christa, and Paisley as they find love in Bliss, TX. I received a copy of the book from the publisher/author via JustRead Publicity Tour and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Thank you in advance to the author, Mindy Obenhaus, along with JustRead Publicity tours for providing a complimentary copy of this book to review. A positive review was not requested or required. All words are my own.

Obenhaus is an author I’ve had the privilege of reading a previous novel of. That was the emotional “Her Rocky Mountain Hope” which was book #5 of the Rocky Mountain Heroes series. I enjoyed book #5 so much that I, with some difficulty, tracked down the previous four novels. And, while I haven’t read them – they are on the TBR list that for some of us readers; never ends.

This book had such a journey and history to me. The first copy never made it to me and is in transit somewhere as of this review. I did get a replacement, which made it. Talk about the message of God has his own plans …

Anyway …

There is SO much goodness in this novel it is hard to know where to start. I truly don’t. There is just a lot to love about this novel.

I LOVE stories set in Texas, preferably those in small towns; add in the SUPER-CUTE, absolutely ADORABLE cover with that baby (awww) … this is a perfect summer read. Okay, let me amend that – perfect ANYTIME read. Texas, babies, and cute guys? I’m in!

The characters were SO realistic that it was as if I knew these people. I definitely identified with Laurel the most, and that was surprising. I was born in Grand Prairie, Texas (and lived in the Dallas area for several years) so there is that connection. I also LOVED the Dallas Cowboys (and just recently found my t-shirt), I still drink Coke, I totally understand the rejection of a parent (father), and I have about the same feelings about dating. Most of the foods in chapter 15 are my favorites (except potato salad).

The Bluebell Ice Cream reference makes me miss it SO much and made me feel like I was at home. It definitely should be the official Ice Cream of Texas, and for a short time I had it in my area (praying for it to return someday). In addition, I grew up in and currently live in the Las Vegas, NV area. I especially loved the reference on pg. 107 about “what happens in Vegas” (with reference to the one-night-stand). Kudos and thank you to the author for that.

I was also raised by my mother and grandmother for several years. So it is VERY little surprise that I truly enjoyed Obenhaus’ realistic writing in this novel.

I adored how Wes wanted to jump right in and be a father to that cute little girl without hesitation. His attention and devotion to her was beautiful and endearing.

Obenhaus doesn’t make us wait too long to learn about Wes’ tragedy or the big reveal – most of this is done by the end of chapter 3. As the story progresses, it is sad to see that Wes doesn’t feel worthy of having his own family, culminating with the complete reveal in chapter 14. The fear of failure was definitely understandable.

The other characters were great in their own way. I did feel a bit overwhelmed with how many people were in the story. However, I definitely can’t wait to read their stories in this series. Since this is the first book of the series, it is obvious it is a standalone read, but I am sure it won’t remain that way.

The side story, of the work on Irma’s home, seemed to act as a metaphor for what was going on in Wes and Laurel’s lives.

Obenhaus also gives the reader two gut-wrenching stories for the price of one. So this is one of those “grab the tissues” and curl up kind of reads.

There was some stress of will/won’t he return for Laurel which was at times annoying, but completely understandable given the character’s past with her father. In addition, Wes’ conflict between doing humanitarian work in Iraq or staying close by for the baby was definitely nail-biting.

One thing that I wished had been addressed was the motive/reason for Laurel’s grandmother returning some letters. I wanted to know more about that to truly understand what happened, and where that story line was going.

Obenhaus’ writing is just beautiful – weaving at times a light-hearted and heart-warming tale, but adding in the realism of abandonment, death, and redemption. She isn’t shy when tackling them and knows how to tug at the heartstrings. I didn’t really want to put this book down. So, I am certain her fans and those of the genre would be delighted to read this latest offering. It is her tenth (10th) LOVE INSPIRED novel and what a treat it is.

Since it is “LOVE INSPIRED”; which is a more Christian/faith themed line; there will be references to God, faith, even bible quotes. This has some strong themes of faith, redemption, and forgiveness. The tone isn’t preachy, but this book does tend to go heavier than some. The message that Obenhaus delivers is that God is in control – he has a plan/purpose for all of us despite the pain and tragedies we go through.

So, um, yeah...that cover! Promises all kinds of delicious goodness because who can resist a hero snuggling a cute baby? Not me, that's for sure! I had to gobble this book up despite the fact that it's about one of my least favourite story tropes -- secret baby. But I'm a Mindy Obenhaus fan and I love the way she spins a small-town contemporary romance so I didn't think twice about diving into Wes and Laurel's story and am I ever glad I did!

First off -- the whole secret baby aspect is handled really well. There's no pettiness or spite or far-fetched reasoning. It's pretty basic really. Stark simplicity and deep regrets boosted by a chance to start over. I got it and didn't feel any resentment towards Laurel (I'm usually seething mad at the woman who has been keeping the secret.) And that paved the way towards my sublime enjoyment of their romance. Because...

Wes!!! Mercy, but that man had me in a dither! I veered between wanting to hug him and slapping him upside the head...maybe both at the same time would knock some sense into him. :-) He's so certain he doesn't deserve a family and yet there's little Sarah-Jane turning his life upside down and inside out. Not to mention her mother -- the woman he hasn't been able to forget.

Eeeppp! Cue your fainting couches...wait, we're in Texas...make that your porch swing and make sure to have a fan or two handy 'cause things heat up as Wes and Laurel discover that happily-ever-afters aren't just in their dreams.

Of course, that doesn't mean it all comes easy. There's enough angst to keep a sensitive reader on edge right to the end. Thankfully, both Laurel and Wes have landed in Bliss, Texas, where a whole community of caring folks are on their side. I love how Mindy creates that small-town vibe. Makes me homesick for something I've never even experienced!

A Father’s Promise by Mindy Obenhaus welcomes us to the new community of Ft. Bliss with a group of cherished friends. I like each of these ladies already and appreciate that they’re a bit older than your typical romance heroines (30s-40s).

In this first of the series, we get to know Laurel, who struggles with abandonment by her father. While I understand how that can affect your entire life there were times that I got frustrated with how much she projected her father’s decisions onto Wes. But, she is a great mother and a kind friend. One thing that I admired was her willingness to forgive – a plot twist you’ll have to read to find out.

Wes is up front about his move to Iraq, which I appreciate after so many books where one or the other tries to hide the fact that they’re leaving in a set time. Laural and Wes have to face that together and both struggle with what that means for them. The way Wes dived into parenting despite his concerns made me smile with some adorable moments.

Hubs read this out loud to me and made me wait to finish it until he could read again. His thoughts: “It was an intriguing little book, but she could add in some military conspiracy twists.” LOL. I reminded him that the suspense books have PURPLE spines. 😉

I received a copy of this book for the purpose of this tour. I was not required to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

When Wes Bishop comes to the small town of Bliss, he is shocked to discover that he has a daughter. Though he struggles to believe that he is capable of being a father, Wes refuses to leave his new-found child and her mother, Laurel Donovan, who is still drawn to and desires to know. With the tragedies and hurts of the past, can they find forever together?
This was such a sweet book! I love when there are kids in it and Sarah-Jane was so cute! She was such a sweet baby and so loved. Both Wes and Laurel were strong and kind characters. Though they had a lot to learn about each other and being a family, they both loved Sarah-Jane and wanted good for each other. God had brought them through trials and together again to grow in new ways. Through different circumstances, Wes and Laurel are brought together to work on a project in their town. As they work side by side, they grow closer and begin to fall in love. I really liked how Wes and Laurel really sought to understand and help one another. They talked and listened to each other. Even though both were hesitant about a romantic relationship because of the past, they cared for one another. Neither believed that they were meant for love or truly would receive it. Of course, their friends and the others in the town were certainly involved. Between Laurel’s group of friends, a few older ladies who loved to matchmake and their church community, Wes and Laurel were surrounded by people who cared about them and helped them to trust.
This is the first book of those set in Bliss, and was a great set-up for the books that are to come! I hope that some of the characters that were introduced in this book get their own stories, like Laurel’s friends. I have no doubt that some of the matchmakers in town will also make appearances! I enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it to those who like sweet romances! It is a sweet clean book with a protective hero, strong heroine, an adorable baby, and a HAE!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

If you need a sweet romance, pick up A Father’s Promise by Mindy Obenhaus!

Wes Bishop may not have planned on a family, but finding out he has a daughter certainly changes all his plans. The mother of that daughter, Laurel Donovan, has been hurt in the past, so of course, she and Wes have plenty to work through to determine what their family will look like. Luckily, they just might get the second chance they need.

Obenhaus excels with small-town settings and charming characters, so I definitely enjoyed A Father’s Promise. It is the first of her new Bliss, Texas series, and I’m excited to see the other heartwarming romances of this town.

We have a God who takes bad situations and turns them into something wonderful. Romans 8:28 plays out in so many ways - in all things God truly does work for the good of those who love him. Mindy Obenhaus has taken this truth and incorporated it into a wonderful clean romance in A Father’s Promise. Readers will learn about many heart breaking stories in the lives of Laurel and Wes but they will also learn the good that comes from those situations. God is at work even when we don’t realize it. Mindy Obenhaus has created likeable characters who learn to trust God in all things. The imaginary town of Bliss, Texas has a laid-back, hometown feel to it - the kind of town where everyone knows everyone, cares for everyone, and everyone takes things as they come.
It sounds like A Father’s Promise is just the first book in a series about Laurel, her friends, and their lives in Bliss, Texas. I look forward to visiting this rural community again in the future.
A Father’s Promise is an adult contemporary romance novel, but it would be appropriate for a K-12 Christian school library. I think that high schoolers and even older middle school students would enjoy it. It is just the kind of romance story so many high school and college-age girls gravitate toward, just with a Christian theme running through it.
I want to thank JustRead Publicity Tours for the complimentary copy. This is my honest review.

I really enjoy LOVE Inspired books. The books are short, easy to read, and a quick read. I also enjoy reading books by Author Mindy Obenhaus. A Father's Promise fits all the wonderful qualities I like in Christian Romance books.

Wes Bishop has always thought that he is not Husband nor Father material due to something that happened in his past. He discovers he has a Baby Girl and wants to have a relationship with her. He begins to start falling in love with Laurel Donavan, the woman he felt he never had a chance to get to know before during their brief relationship. He really wants to "do the right thing", but now he feels it isn't only the right thing, but the fact that he is having feelings for Laurel that are deeper then they have ever been.

A Father's Promise is a book that really has a strong message, especially for today's society. Men are finding out that they have children after the kids are born, and many men are stepping up and taking care of the children and also the mom of the baby. A Father's Promise is a great book about God's forgiveness and how God can bring 2 together.

A Father's Promise is the 1st book in the new series by Mindy Obenhaus. I cannot wait to read more of this wonderful town of Bliss, Texas! GREAT BOOK!

I enjoyed this engaging novel by a 'new-to-me' author very much.

The problems encountered by the main and supporting characters in this book were unique, but realistic. I enjoyed the way the community of Bliss pulled together to help those in need.

This cover may be the sweetest Love Inspired cover ever, in my opinion.

I will definitely look forward to reading more books by this talented author in the future.

I’m usually hesitant to read unknown child stories, but Mindy Obenhaus wrote such an engaging tale, I loved everything about A Father’s Promise.

Laural Donovan and Wes Bishop met in Vegas and for one night had a moment that would impact the rest of their lives. Well, Laurel’s life at first when she discovered she was pregnant. They hadn’t even exchanged last names so she couldn’t tell Wes about the baby and Wes never stopped thinking of Laural, but had no way to find her. Until he arrived in Bliss, Texas to visit his sister.

Laurel and Wes are lovable people who have baggage that make relationships difficult. However having a daughter together means they must work through the hurt they cause each other. Or maybe it isn’t just because of Sarah Jane. Maybe, just maybe, there’s more between Laural and Wes, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed A Father’s Promise. It was a light, easy read that kept me captivated. I wanted things to work out for Laurel and Wes and knew trouble was brewing the closer to the end I got. How would they overcome it?

Of course I won’t tell you, but I will say that the ending was perfectly satisfying. You’ll have to pick up a copy to discover how for yourself.

What an awesome story! Since I first saw this adorable cover I knew I had to read this book, so I of course jumped at the chance to request a review copy! I loved this book! Mindy Obenhaus is a new-to-me-author and while this was my first time reading one of her books it most definitely will not be my last!
This book has an excellent message, if we confess our sin and ask Jesus to be our savior He can (and often does) turn our mistakes into amazing blessings! It never fails to fill my heart with awe at how God uses everything, even our biggest screw ups for good if we let Him! And this story showcases that fabulously!
Wes and Laurel were wonderful main characters, I loved them both and was cheering for them from the start!
This book definitely has some swoon-worthy moments, but if you're someone who prefers a romance that is about much more than just physical attraction I think this is a book you'll really enjoy!
And I just have to say that Sarah-Jane was adorable and she always made me smile every time she appeared on the page!
A Father's Promise is every bit as lovely of a story as the cover suggests! I highly recommend this book and am eagerly anticipating my next trip to Bliss, Texas!

I enjoyed this first book in a new series by Mindy Obenhaus. I loved the small town setting of Bliss and the way people rally around one another. I also liked how Laurel and her three close friends are independent women.

What stood out the most to me was how Laurel and Wes relate to each other. Even though there were misunderstandings and sometimes very realistic "snipping" at each other, they were both quick to own up to it and make things right with the other.

Laurel and Wes both had issues to deal with which stemmed from things that happened to them in their pasts. I enjoyed seeing how God was woven into the story and the hope that He can work all things for good.

What touched my heart so much about this book is the way baby Sarah-Jane loved her new daddy (Wes) from the moment she met him. Although she hadn't met him until she was about 14 months old, her heart knew he was special in her life! She practically leapt into his arms and always had a heart stopping smile for him when he entered a room. How could that not melt a dad's heart? Wes didn't know he was a father but when Laurel told him, he is overcome, of course. It doesn't take long for him to warm to the idea though and bond with Sarah-Jane. He realizes that he'll do anything for that precious baby. However, it takes a little longer for Laurel and Wes to come to terms with their relationship. Although they are attracted to each other, of course, they really don't know each other! But, living in Bliss, Texas shows all of them how wonderful this town can be to bringing everyone together! Loved this book!

Love love and love this story!! We all have made mistakes that we wish we could go back and do differently, unfortunately, we can't change the past. But God has a way of taking those same mistakes and turning the situation around for His glory and our good. And those can be some of the greatest blessings we ever receive.

I enjoyed reading this book full of personal misunderstandings of characters who are otherwise firmly grounded in faith. It brought to mind how so many people feel lonely, unworthy and unlovable, even though they are greatly loved. I enjoyed the small-town Texas details, the Navy references, the multi-generational church fellowship, and the way the town of Bliss worked together to fix a problem. Having lived in Texas for 5 years, I appreciated the speech and tone of the book--proper grammar, with southern habits like calling little girls "Miss__" and please/thank-you, but without silly contractions in every sentence.
My one problem with the book, strangely, was that the townspeople were too nice. In real life, there's usually some "nice" person who says ugly things behind one's back. A "nasty-nice" character would have added another interesting twist to the story.
If you want a book that makes you feel good, try this one!
Disclaimer: I received this book from Mindy Obenhaus after Facebook contest (my answer involved missing Texas bluebonnets), but my thoughts are all my own.

If you like reading Love Inspired Inspirational Romances from Harlequin, you'll like Mindy Obenhaus' book, A Father's Promise. I usually don't like surprise baby books, but this one was different. The main characters, Wes Bishop and Laurel Donovan are responsible adults who don't make a habit of "fooling around". They made one reckless decision at a convention in Las Vegas a year and a half ago that led to a beautiful baby girl named Sarah-Jane. Since then, Laurel has been living in Bliss, Texas. Wes goes to Bliss to see his older sister, Rae, who just happens to be Laurel's good friend. Unbeknownst to all of them, Wes is Sarah-Jane's father! Laurel does the right thing and tells Wes the truth, which changes things for all 3 of them. Wes starts spending as much time as he can getting to know his daughter. There are some really nice moments and some surprises ahead. I like books that have a Christian element to them and I look forward to reading other books by this author.

This is the first book in Mindy Obenhaus’s “A Bliss,Texas Novel” series. Laurel Donovan is a single mom that moves to Bliss, Texas to start a new life for herself and her young daughter, Sarah-Jane. She has her three friends to lean on. Wes Bishop has come to Bliss to visit his sister before going to Iraq for a year. He has lived with a tragedy that convinces him that he doesn’t deserve a family. Surprises are certainly in store when Wes and Laurel come face-face on the street in Bliss. Both learn that God can take mistakes and turn them into blessings. This is a sweet read with good characters and storyline. I will be waiting for Laurel’s friends’ books.

This inspirational romance set in the inviting town of Bliss, TX had engaging characters and a plot with some nice twists (and an HEA). I enjoyed reading it and received it as part of a BookSweeps prize package (thank you for participating, Mindy); the opinions in this review are my own.
