Together: A Story of Survival

Rate this book
Four abused children die every day. Survivors bear physical and emotional scars for life. Some turn to alcohol and drugs, or become abusers themselves. Others become criminals and spend their lives in prison. Those who live “normal” lives are haunted by the ghosts of their past. Together, the painful yet poignant story of Lynda Long and her three brothers, sheds light on a cancer in American society. Their story demonstrates how God’s grace and mercy reaches into the darkest places—even death row.

Lynda Long sent me a copy of her true story of the horrific childhood she had and how her father was responsible for her brother becoming a murderer. I do believe, but it is hard to believe that such an evil man could exist. One of the incidents talked about her little brother on his knees playing and her father coming from behind and kicking him across the room. The first half of the book is about her childhood and how she tried to protect her little brothers from this man, and the second half talks about her brother being on death row and what happened afterwards. How wonderful that Lynda and her brother, Gary, were able to survive and become good human beings in spite of their upbringing.

"Together: A Story of Survival" is a deeply human story that explores the power of connection, resilience, and hope in the face of overwhelming adversity. Set against Lynda Long, the book story line experiences of individuals who find strength not just within themselves but in each other. I recommend to anyone who doesn't get uncomfortable with personal stories, and personal connection to negative trauma.
