Stranded on an alien planet and left for dead. They've never felt so alive. The attempt to colonize a system on the other side of a gateway to the stars led to serious problems. Massive storms, sandworms, and strange beings that threaten to end any chance our team has for survival. Espinoza and his fellow Marines struggle to reconnect with Earth while battling the environment and those who attacked their ship on the way through the gateway. Shrina searches for her sister and answers to where the strange beings on Earth came from. Trent forms new bonds as he learns about powers beyond our comprehension. Will Espinoza be able to figure out what the Goldies are, and why the storms attack? What made Shrina mutate in this powerful way? How can Trent survive in a world of gods? The second book in the Ascension Gate series. Perfect for fans of Mass Effect, Stargate SG-1, and Pern.

So much story!! So much promise!! This will keep my inner nerd happy. This second premise is more intense and astounding than the first one. The plot unravels bit by bit, but more twists keeps turning around! What incredible and astonishing revelations and thrilling transformations! There were several points where I legitimately worried about just how the protagonists were going to even survive their travails! Justin Sloan has once again outdone himself with his creative imagination. He knows how to pull us in and keep us enthralled throughout the book, from beginning to end. It’s exciting to know Star Defenders #3 is coming out soon!

Interesting

Well this one had a number of interesting little yes to it. Trent's story seems to be coming along. Shrina is still my favorite Lady for this series.

Mix of sci-fi and fanticy

Not quite my first choice in reading material but a good fast paced book regardless. I enjoyed it and am off to read book 3. It seems to be more a sword and sorcery than science fiction since we have vampires, dragons and goodies mixed in with blasters, high tech guns and spacecraft. !it's of action.

Not a bad book, just not a good fit for me. Could not get into the way its written as a set of 4+ separate stories told a chapter at a time. You read about a character for one chapter, then you switch to another in the next chapter, rotating through about 4 main characters. Felt a bit like those old select your ending stories

Helluva good read dang,. Could not put it down

This picks up from older books but the storyline is so varied and awesome. Just really enjoyed the action. Mild humor, drama, more action and just really well woven story. Can't wait to open up the next book. Started this one earlier today or maybe it was last night but pounded through it very much worth the time invest

Had to read this in two sessions

With almost non stop action and a fast paced storyline I found it hard to put down. I have finished this just as book four has come from the editors. Can't wait to get my copy

Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure.Loved the more intimate feel to the character scenes and even dragons can be dicks.

Confusing yet intriguing.

I haven’t yet decided about the whole vampire, dragons in space theme yet. But the concept is intriguing. I am hoping Alicia and Merrill find each other again. On to break three.

3 Worlds to explore

What an exciting adventure this story takes you on. Just for a little while you’re in the company of both good and evil. And dragons. To see where the main characters lives will lead and to meet new ones. Awesome story.

On to the Next

There it was, free on KU, so I got it. I did say the series had promise and book two made up for a lot of book ones problems. It was finished in a lot sooner than the 4 hrs 20 minutes kindle said, though.

You are taken on a journey that is on another planet where soldiers were suppose to due job . They ran into sand worms and very strange weather , but they find out there are vampires on this place. The author did a good job with the book.

Better than the first

The writing was much cleaner this time around. I liked the character arcs and their development. I’m pretty sure I know who the Dragon is.

Middle book

This book left me wanting. Not in a good way. When all was said and done I felt like there should have been more.
