**** Previously published in 12 installments as "Clovenhoof's Diary" ****
Jeremy Clovenhoof has spent the last six years living the quiet life in the suburbs after losing his job as Lord of Hell but now his semi-retirement is about to be turned upside down.
His town is being over-run by dictatorial mayors and religious fanatics. He’s been accused of being an illegal immigrant (he is) and an undesirable foreigner (he is) and he faces deportation if he can’t fix things.
In a year of parliamentary turmoil, mass protest and economic uncertainty, Clovenhoof has to navigate the job market, the political landscape and affairs of the heart.
In the most searingly honest record of Britain today — featuring fearsome lollipop ladies, explosive art, bad parking vigilantes, kinky cosplay and the lost works of William Shakespeare — Clovenhoof’s Diary provides us with a compelling insight into a country at odds with itself and explains how we got into this current mess.
Very entertaining read. I find the Clovenhoof books are at their best when they are more grounded in mundane normality where Jeremy himself is the chaos. I imagine that it was a fun experience to read each instalment as it was published
The new characters introduced were great. I definitely had a favourite and was sad regarding her conclusion. Some funny moments with some side characters too and I was very pleased that both Michael and Andy were present in the story.
Very long book to read in one go but most certainly worth it.
I found the ending wrapped up rather quickly, much like other books in the series
Originally published episode by episode but I read the collected edition.
This was a cracking book, loads of fun and with regular laugh out loud moments. The way it tied into the politics of the time was very nicely done and the mixture of freedom and naivety of the characters makes for the most ridiculous incidents.
You do need to suspect your disbelief when reading the book. This is not gritty authentic realism. That is not the purpose of the book however.
These are thoroughly entertaining romps with characters I enjoy. Loads of laughs to be had in here. Sometime you need the smiles.
Another great book telling of the escapades of our favourite devil over the course of a year. Some laugh out loud moments as always. I’ve read all the Clovenhoof books now and I’m really hoping that one day there’ll be more!
Laugh-out-loud funny. Inventive and thoroughly enjoyable. I usually prefer this team's other books slightly more than the ones starring Jeremy, but this one (like the Covid diaries) was excellent.
