Zodiac Cyborgs #1

Cyborg's Price

Rate this book
He's one of the most dangerous creatures in the galaxy... so why can't she keep her hands off him?

A junior nurse aboard the Combined Fleet Ship Valkyrie, Samara's days are usually filled with minor bumps and scraps and the occasional health or workspace check. But when a dangerous prisoner is transferred aboard, she finds herself on brig duty. Dealing with the big, lethal looking military grade cyborg should be terrifying, but one look into his green eyes and she can't think of anything other than what his big, hard body would look like under the grey ship suit...

She's small, soft...and his enemy. He should keep his hands to himself and forget her.

Captured and en route to a medical facility for dissection and study, cyborg Lyon expects nothing but pain and degradation from his captors. But Samara isn't like the others, treating his wounds with care and igniting a fire deep within. When she neglects to ensure his cuffs are locked tight, all hell breaks loose. A hot, sensual hell against the cell wall. When his team arrives, Lyon knows he should walk away...but he can't. His little human has gotten under his skin. He'll take her as payment for his suffering, keep her in his bed and pleasure them both for as long as he has breath left in his body.

However, the universe, and the Fleet, have other ideas. A tracker on board brings a horde of fleet ships down on their heads.
Can Lyon and Samara survive betrayal, a fleet attack and their own suspicions, or will their happily ever after disintegrate under fire?

I really, really liked this book. In fact this is just what I was hoping it would be, though I do wish it had been longer so it wouldn't have ended so soon. This book does have instal-love but it didn't bother me. My only other thought is that I wished we had scene them talk more to each other in this book so we could have scene their love grow more. But this is a fun, fast book that I am so glad I found.

Lyon’s Price is a really great book. Yes it’s short but, it’s worth it. When I started reading it I got so into it that I hated when I got to the end. I hope she decides to write another story to this book so we can see what happens with the other characters.

I’ve read many books by Mina Carter and they just keep getting better and better. I love how she comes up with her characters and the story line that she weaves around them. I’m always left wanting for more.

Lyon is the main character and let me just say he is so hot! I’m a Leo so I understand his personality. He has deep feelings. When he loves it runs true so you’ve got to expect some jealousy to show it’s face. He makes a mistake on his mission and he blames no one but himself. He let his ego get the best of him.

Samara is a spicy and woman. She is strong and sticks up for what she believes in. She doesn’t let prejudice get in her way. She doesn’t listen to what people say about cyborgs. She’s the kind of woman that you would want on your side when things get tough. When you think all is lost she comes through fighting.
You get these to together and there’s bound to be sparks. The passion between them is so hot that it catches you on fire. Lyon is the man that you would want by your side and in your bed.

I can’t wait for my next adventure and I’ll be on the look out for a second book to this story.

Favorite Quote: Pursing her lips, she gave him a coy look. “Well, I don’t know. Perhaps I should take a look at this fan club you say I have before I make a decision…”

There were so many things I didn't like while reading this book, that I don't even know where to start.

Cold, bossy male lead and a hopeless pushover of a heroine just didn't bode well for me, even more so in their non-electrifying sex scenes. Their interraction was insufficient to say the least, the plot was lacking in many ways, and the story wasn't even a good erotica one to afford such drawbacks.

The author's writing was a shallow repetition of the same lines over and over again, which had been introduced to us already in the first book. So, yes, 1.5 stars actual rating turned 2, just for the heck of it...

So $5.00 is a bit high for a short (95 page) book, but some books are worth it to me. This has some really hot scenes and when Lyon and Samara start to understand each other things work out. I really would love a continuation of this story though because there is so much potential for a sequel. I just love the Cyborg/Human combination and the fact that now the colony will have a medical person available. Anyway I recommend this sci/fi erotic romance to anyone who likes this genre. To some who aren't familiar with this genre give it a try.

Damn do I love great Cyborg books...and this one was really good....delicious. These two *shake my head*....whew. Lyon is a Cyborg who was caught and being experimented on and Samara was the nurse taking care of him. His Cyborg crew comes to break him out...but not before he has Samara up against the wall. Yeah, you read that right, these two...yummy. Anyway, he takes her with him and there is some drama with her old crew. She ends up saving Lyon and his crew and develops a bit of a fan club. Loved this book and look forward to reading more in the series....sci-fi crack right here.

What a hot start to what I hope will be a great cyborg series. Super fast paced and quite steamy.

Can't wait for more.

This book is hilariously bad. It’s just bad writing. There’s zero character development and all the cliches about cyborgs/humans are at an all time high.

The cyborgs are BIG.
The weak humans are DUMB and WEAK.
The heroine is dumb, weak, insecure physically, but also irresistible (bc she apologized for bumping into the big scary cyborg).
The two have never had a real conversation, but fall madly in love.

I don’t think there’s an actual plot outside the Need to Fuck.

This is sooooo bad.

One of the worst cases of insta-love I've ever read - The relationship never had a chance to develop

This book starts out fast paced. Constant action etc. My biggest complaint is that the characters and plot left much to be desired. I never once felt any sort of emotional pull in this read. I hated how the hero was able to be a dick and the heroine was just so easily accepting of anything and everything. I wanted her to grow some backbone. Have some opinions. I don’t know, I just like strong heroines with some sass, and this heroine was certainly not one of those. She just seemed to go along with whatever. Sex with the prisoner when meeting first time, sure no problem. Kidnapped taken to a new planet, no hesitation at all. Falls in love with hero she just met, of course? She just seemed to go along with everything without so much of a hesitation. I think one of the reasons I couldn’t connect to the characters in this story because we received no back story, no real individual personality traits, they just seemed so fictitious and bland. Also, I find this story to be over-priced at its current listing price of $3.08. It's only a 95 page book. I'm not sure if this is a series or not, but if so, it wouldn’t be one Id continue.

I rounded up to 5 stars.

This book is short, sweet and to the point. Everything moved pretty fast but I think that's ok for the length. When I read books less than a 100 pages long I tend to be lax in my rating.

I enjoyed the read. The story pulled me in from the beginning and kept my interest. I overlooked the fact that the whole story took place in what, a week at most? Maybe only three full days of interaction between the main characters? :)

Like I said, lax in my rating. It's hard to write a short story that keeps readers interested and there are limitations.

I will be reading the next in the series because I like the world Carter created. These cyborgs definitely don't make me want to punch myself in the face every other page, unfortunately for me I have read books like that.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is a re-release. I never read the older one so I dont know if things have changed. All I know is I loved it! I smiled and got all teary eyed. It was not a sweet romance but damn hot! It was sweet in the end though. Just too many obstacles going on in the book for it to be sweet til the end which I love. I loved how Lyon and Samara met the first time. Kinda cute and funny. When he sorta kidnaps her...I say sorta cause you know cant kidnap someone who might wanna leave? You gotta read it to understand. Can a hardened cyborg warrior be gentle with a soft human he cant seem to keep his hands off? When betrayal comes around will he think before he acts or destroy everything he could have had? Hmmm.....

3-1/2 stars. Good book for the length. Of course there was the conflict but it seemed so formulaic that it wasn't much of a surprise. The romance/sexual attraction was okay. I would have liked there to have been a much bigger build-up for that. But overall a good book.

3.5 stars.
This was a re-release, not a short short but not a full size novel. Mina does Sci-fi well and I really enjoyed the story.

Yes the male is pushy and a bit alpha but most of us likes that in our BBF's right?. A cyborg on a mission with his ready made family of brothers and a sister.

The nurse with hints of shyness and sassy, when pushed she show's just how weak she is. Its a story of insta chemistry in the stars. Not a lot of wow factor for me as her other books, but I still enjoyed the story very much and liked the characters.

So nurse Samara has to treat cyborg prisoner Lyon. They get it on in his cell and she is dragged along with his escape plan.

This story was ok but not incredibly memorable. I think if it had been longer there would have been more room for more backstory about the characters. You never really knew who they were. There was a lot if instalove and not a lot of growing feelings.

The cyborg crew have a lot of banter which made me feel like I was in an episode of Firefly. I didn’t quite feel their mechanical nature.

Samara seems pretty unaffected by events. This was supposed to indicate her strength and adaptability but sometimes it just the situations feel more comical than real.

It’s a good, short burst of heat but after reading so many of this genre, I wanted a little more.

Happily rediscovered an author I forgot about and with a favourite genre, Cyborgs! Part machine but still enough human to melt your heart and panties.
With 'Lyon's Price' being a novella, it is on the lighter side but still packs a punch to a very good read.

Cheers

okay maybe it´s because I've been reading way too many short stories from Miss Carter, but being this one the second book - and as a more than 100 pages book- I've read, I was quite expecting so much more hot and strong scenes.
There a so freaking great hot scenes, that's undeniably!!, but hey ! like I have to expect a considered amount of pages in order to get to it.
Anyway I guess it's because I've read too much smut stories, but at the same tine, this reminds me a lot to Lauran Dohner's Cyborgs stories- I mean they are also freaking hot mouth watering cyborgs, except that they have smurfs color skin- but the story is a bit similar, I'm hoping that in this series we don't have the no big female population- as in any of the books of Miss Dohner- but so far as I've read this one is quite good. yeah there were a couple of things I wasn't following about the whole thing of how the cyborgs were created and in what time, and planet are we? , so I wouldn't be so surprised if its happen that this is not the first book of the series.
The story is pretty much good built, We ha Samaa who is a space nurse - sort of- and we have Lyon a smuthering hot, breath taking cyborg male who is imprisoned! - So we have all the Fury and Elly all over again, with the - not so slight difference- that these two actually got their way , since the very first beginnnig... and oh my !! what a WAY!
after that we get to the "action"- as in bullets flying over their heads action-and the weird thing . even for a book- is that the person who is being kidnapped is actually more than willing to go with them, that´s okay , but a little more resistence from hert part would have been great. I mean make him suffer a little girl !
And from that point, forward everything is related to keep themselves alive, a few misunderstandings, and funny jokes coming from a couple of cyborgs- which I can't barely expect to read their very own book, because I'm ehem gemini- and of course our very first cyborg female , who is not a smurf skin or a much great version of Xena, rather a freaking model type. So this is promising I hope.
The only thing I can say that even if the scenes were hot, I guess a little bit much scenes of them wouln't hurt anybody. right ?
So much for my happy ending !!! haha

Based on the length of the book, I thought it was okay. The characters, while passable, didn't seem that well developed. Maybe this was due to there not being enough pages to fully develop the characters?

What irked me was that, at the climax of the book, the main female character suddenly displayed skill sets that weren't in any way mentioned leading up to that point. So, instead of being surprised, I was annoyed with the author. What I am talking about is her very basic knowledge of how to

Other quips I had with this book:

1) the naming of the cyborg classification system. The Zodiac? This is something that matches a paranormal genre, not sci-fi.

2) Overuse of cliches (metaphors, and similes).

3) Okay, I know I'm repeating myself, but little character depth. Due to this, I had a hard time believing in the romance between the couple.

4) Poor world-building and setting. Look, this is sci-fi. This genre is dependent on the description of setting. (not saying that other genres don't need description, but sci-fi and fantasy really do depend on description much more than other genres) You can't just tell me we're on a space ship. Considering that the majority of this story takes place on spaceships, I have to feel like I'm really there. Also, what is it with the vague details regarding background information? Did the cyborgs revolt and escape or something in the past? What happened? The author is leaving a lot up to the reader to assume.

This was a great romance and a great science fiction story. There were a lot of elements to put together a really complete idea of the future they are in. The cyborgs are in revolt against the humans and the humans managed to catch a high-ranking cyborg. If you want to know that story, read Her Empath, also a great book, but about completely different types of characters.
The hero is super strong and smart and has access to all sorts of data. He is a crew of 3 cyborgs who he knows will try to rescue him.
The heroine is a human nurse and she treats him after he has been beaten up by his guards. She is very attracted to him, and gets distracted, but it works out that he gets loose from his cuffs after she treats him.
I really liked the hero, heroine and his crew mates. There was come great dialog, some of it quite funny.
We have sexy times, a surprising rescue, more sexy times, possible betrayal and another surprising rescue. This is a remarkably action packed story for so few pages. It was great.

I really enjoyed this story! It's a nice quick read that entertained me start to finish. Lyon is a Cyborg in a world where they are looked down on. They have started a freedom/resistance group and have escaped from humans. Lyon has gotten captured and that's where he meets Samara. Samara is a nurse in the Fleet. She has been taught to not judge a book by it's cover and so doesn't treat Lyon like everyone else does. It immediately stands out to him. They are drawn to each other and so when Lyon makes his escape he takes Samara with him. I loved their antics. Samara does not just lie over and let Lyon have his way with things. She gives him attitude and speaks her mind. The sex is explicit and fits the story. I really enjoyed the way that the story was written and flows. It's well done and I had to keep reading to figure out what other antics Lyon, Samara and his crew got up to. I'm excited to read the next book in the series.

Lyon a Cyborg captured by humans and being beaten. Hating humans as they are only interested in betrayal and pain, he wasn't expecting to find one he may like.

Samara a nurse who is angered by how her colleagues are treating the Cyborg. Let's her heart get in the way of her job and she ends up right in the middle of an escape.

Opposite sides have merged together but not smoothly. Samara has a lot of spunk :) her character is so funny, especially with how she is with Lyon you can't help but like her. He isn't so bad either for a big bad Cyborg :) his instincts of protection and owning over Samara is fun to watch. She purposely winds him up and he falls for it and gives her what she wants. HOT SEX!!!!
Brilliant book full of great characters and wait until they are back on Lyons ship with his people. Even more fun to watch hahaha

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised. When I first got this book, I didn't have high hopes.i expected it to be just another erotica with nothing but sex ( not that I don't like hot sex in my books)but I was discovered was a little treasure. This book is just like a woman's skirt. " long enough to cover the subject, and short enough to create interest" Churchill. I often get bored when reading Sci Fi romance because the terminologies can be too complicated, or the author focus more on the romance and not the action etc. Anyway, this story had the right balance of romance to Sci Fi ching ding, plus lots of hot sex. And, the story wasn't long and drawn out. Straight to the point, just how I like it. I think I have to read the rest of her books now.

What a Ride

Take a strong, sexy Cyborg, add a sassy, determined human and a dangerous opponent and you've got the makings of a red hot, steamy adventure. Captured by the Fleet, Leo class Cyborg Lyon is drawn to Fleet Nurse Samara. The attraction is mutual. When the opportunity to escape presents itself, the only bounty Lyon asks for is Samara. Back on board the Cyborg ship, Samara meets the rest of the Cyborg crew...Cael, a Cancer class female Cyborg and twins Archon and Eoin, Gemini class Cyborgs.

Mina Carter has assembled a cast of characters that are interesting, entertaining and fun. This book is a quick read that leaves wanting more, which I do. I can't wait until I read they next book in the Zodiac Cyborg series.

Didn't care for it. The heroine is a crazy person. She's scared he's going to kill her but she's getting hot because he's cute . . . . Later on in the book he pulls a knife on her and starts to use it (not to kill her but she was obviously terrified). She's again scared for her life and afterwards she doesn't care at all about what he did to her, she only cares if he will still want her. He starts to apologize but she stops him and says no apology needed. Yes it is!

I don't care how silly the plot of the book is there has to be some reality in the characters and if they are going to get turned on by almost being killed, by being body checked against a metal wall or have their wrists held so tightly they wince then that lunacy has to be part of their character.
