Origins: Part Two

The Girth of a Hero ...

Kallie Grande-White aspired to worldwide fame and adoration, but she never wanted it like this.

After sort of innocently eating her grandmother's radioactive doughnuts in a fit of manic-depressive rage, and then arriving at her Model Middle America audition, Kallie transformed into a giant balloon-sized would-be superhero, even falling through her dressing room door just in time to stop a terrorist from taking Cuttingham City Amphitheater hostage.

As Kallie becomes a beloved city hero and overnight sensation, there's more on her mind when Kallie's grandmother, Abuela-Blanca, reveals the origins of the radioactive doughnuts -- and why she now needs Kallie's help in bringing down an even bigger threat.

And while there's nothing Kallie wants to do less than take up the media's given mantle of "Fatgirl," she soon finds out she has little choice -- not if she wants to keep her identity a secret, and not if she ever wants to get her mother to come back home.

You can't make a full doughnut sandwich with only one doughnut. Double up for the full origin story of everyone's newest favorite doughnut-eating superhero!

Fatgirl: Origins: Part Two is the conclusion to the origin story of this satirical science fiction superhero take on growing up, PC culture, and diet culture from award-winning, genre-hopping author C. S. Johnson.

Cute little story that ends up in the air. Our hero is mow hoodwinked into helping her grandmother by downing the stuff that makes her in a fat super hero again, an undesired thing for this ego filled, slender beauty that just wanted to become a model. Embarrassed but forced she takes her next step to help her grandmother smashing her dreams of a different kind of fame.
The story is well written but way too short and unfinished. Hope the next segment doesn’t take too long to happen. That is why 3 stars. It is enjoyable but not too keen on the wait. It is worth reading however and once to whole story will be worth it I’m sure to garner a better review.
Keep writing so we won’t have to wait too long.

I wanted to like this

I really did want to like this story. Part 1 was interesting and fun, but Part 2 was disappointing. Far less character development, constant self-hate and fat jokes by Kallie and everyone. The grandma’s backstory was distracting and unnecessarily complicated. And Fatgirl is basically a bumbling joke that’s not fun.

There was a lot of potential there; maybe it will be developed in future installments. The writing is technically fine, but the choices in direction for both the heroine and the story itself were unfortunate and underwhelming.

Here’s hoping for improvements going forward.

“It was quite a conundrum, and I hated how curious I was.”

In this, the second of the series, we get more of the “backstory” of high school model wanna-be Kallie Grande-White, her family history and how she and her grandmother “AB” need to work together to save the world after her experimental “recipe” gets into the “wrong hands”.

I liked this better than the first of the series. Seems Kallie’s world is changing because Kallie is maturing...even if it is less than 24 hours since this started.... the next steps will change her even more. Highly Recommended 5/5

A second great book with humour. Kallie’s world is changing. She’s getting older but still problems arise. An experiment goes wrong and how can it be fixed? Ready for more.

Part 2 of this serialized novel moves just as quickly as the first with deepening relationships and more reveals. What a great concept and execution of a slightly slanted ordinary character vs. superhero!

It was my pleasure to receive this ARC and give my honest review.

I'm not liking Kallie's character at all, but I'm so intrigued by this story I want to know more. I'm hoping Kallie and her abuela will reconcile in the story also. Her mom left and her dad is barely around, looking forward to what happens with Kallie and her adventures of catching bad guys!

Well written sequel to Fatgirl, Part 1. The characters are the same, the action is non-stop and you end up having a humorous journey. Can't wait for Book 3.

A superhero who deserves what she gets.

For those of you who didn't realize that this was a sequel,

Previously on Fatgirl:
Kallie White is a shallow highschool girl who has aspirations to be a model. But after a plate of her grandma's radioactive doughnuts, she becomes Fatgirl a defender of Justice and, well no she's still pretty shallow, but she might be changing.

This episode picks up right where the first leaves off, so please go back and read that first.

I still love Kallie, in a, "I know you're hurting so let me hug all the bad attitude out of you," kind of way. The sad part is that Kallie would definitely not want the pity. She just wants her mad scientist grandmother to reverse her doughnut serum.

Unfortunately this mad scientist has some errands that need run and only a superhero can pull it off.

I can't wait to start the next episode.

This book continues right where Part One left off. Really enjoyed the story or world she is building and is a book you want to finish in one sitting. It is hard to put down. I felt I got to know the MC even more and she does have more depth than being a "perfect" model. During the story I felt like I was with her in all her situations, feeling exactly what she was feeling. Yes I recommend this book and will continue to read this series.

Kallie is starting to grow on me a bit. She's still a shallow twit that needs a good slap up side the head, but I didn't dislike her as much in this installment.

The story is getting more interesting as well.

This a fun-not to mention hilarious-series. Unique and just the kind humor I need 🤣
--Why do I love characters who are terrible and are completely aware of that fact???? There is definitely something wrong with me....😜😈
