They call me The Puppetmaster.
And when I’m on the hunt, they come running—willing to serve at my feet, because no one makes my puppets dance like I do.

But my heart almost stops when I see her name on the list.
Alena Prey, you wreak havoc with a plan I’ve had for years, but it won’t stop me from reaching my goal — a goal that you’re destined to be a part of.

Blurb:
I don't just train.
I don't just own.
I don't just take control.
I make them dance.
I attach the strings, cutting deep into their skin.
They belong to me. They march to my will.
And they can't leave until I let them.
They're dolls to me - easy to bend, easy to break.
And I'll make sure that no one will ever learn the name they call me.
The name that makes their hearts beat with desire and their skin tickle with sweet fear.
The name that has made me a legend, the name they speak in hushed voices, their craving lacing every syllable.
They call me The Puppetmaster.

description The minute I heard about this book I was SOOO excited to get my hands on it. Then I saw the cover, and I was next level excited. That said, it didn't WOW me as much as I had hoped. It wasn't a bad book by any means. I enjoyed it and it held my interest throughout. And I very much loved Alena and her sassyness. Raad was an OK hero, but I expected more darkness from him. In fact, I found this story to be pretty tame. Yes, there were some hot sex scenes, but I was expecting more kink. ⬅ Damn those expectations, right? I also thought the ending was rushed and convoluted. The reasoning for why Radd did what he did needed more fleshing out, and I need more anger and outrage from Alena when she finds out the truth. Not to mention some groveling from Raad. Anyway, as I said, I enjoyed it. It just wasn't a complete homerun for me.

This book was good, the characters were good and the twist wow. This story was crazy good and kept me hooked from page 1. Alena and Raad chemistry is off the charts and a couple you want too read about. Another great read that I really enjoyed.

A Slow-Moving Dark Story Packed With Mystery And Steamy Chemistry! Delightful Yet Sometimes Confusing.

Alena Prey, mid twenties, had a rough start in life. Growing up in Brooklyn, she learned to show strength in order to avoid becoming a target. She took free martial arts classes and knew how to use her fists. Orphaned in high school, she worked hard to support herself and her little sister and to keep them both out of the foster care system.

Once her sister graduated, she set off to a job opportunity in Boston. She has now been employed by Mr. Hammond for three years. She works hard, but wants the reward. Mr. Hammond crushes all her best efforts, and eventually she wonders why she keeps trying.

Desperate for a break, she looks up the schedule for The Velvet Rooms. The secretive club is home to the elite. She is one of a small group of women without means invited as guests. She had visited a few times - only as an observer - but hadn't returned in several years. When she sees that the infamous Puppetmaster has scheduled a hunt, she can't help but believe that the timing is fortuitous.

Michael Raad Brower, known only as the Puppetmaster at his club appearances, is not excited for the hunt. The rumor mill about him and his puppets has drawn unwanted attention. People are saying his puppets walk away changed for the better. He doesn't care if they do. That isn't the point. But the selection of contenders at recent hunts has become increasingly unfit, with many more in need of therapy than the pleasure and pain he proposes.

He has done this for years, and this club has been his primary hunting grounds for a while. With any hope, he will soon reach his goal and stop the madness. His plans are meticulously prepared, taking into account various scenarios. He is rarely surprised or caught off guard, so when he sees her name on the list it must be a mistake. Because he always directs, commands, and plans. He pulls the strings. And now his simple hunt suddenly has high stakes.

Raad and Alena's dark story is filled with mystery and intrugue. They have great chemistry together. Their situation requires trust, which is difficult to maintain. Alena opens up about her guilt-laden past, but so much about Raad remains a mystery. Raad has his own agenda, but finds himself in over his head when he realizes that he has real feelings for Alena. It is easy to root for Raad and Alena. They deserve their HEA!

There are some details relating to the plot or character development that are written such that they are unclear or vague. First, it is implied that the puppets commit a crime for Raad. Although he admits he is operating in a gray area, it is not clear as to what they do wrong. Next, there are questions relating to Raad and his last puppet. Why was she his last? Why is he quitting? Is she last for him altogether, or just for his project? What did he feel when he saw her that would make him want a last puppet? With regard to Raad's work, he gets away for weeks or months at a time. It would have been more realistic if it were explicitly explained that he works at home not only on his project, but made time for his regular work as well, even if it remains a mystery. Regarding hunts, were Raad's hunts purely recreational before his plan? Finally, it is hard to follow the reasoning for why puppets do not return to The Velvet Rooms. With reflection, it seems Raad's reasoning is to prevent gossip. But it is also stated that the puppets would not want to return. The reason for that is still evasive.

This story is a delight to read. It is well-written. The plot is slow-moving. Mystery predominates, and a quick wrap up at the end pulls it together. The characters are nicely developed. The POV alternates between Raad and Alena. I rate this book four stars.

I received a free advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really liked the Puppetmaster. There were many twist and turns, we find out at the end why he does the things he does. I would have loved more details throughout from both sides, but it is a quick read. Standalone. No cliffhanger. The BDSM portions were great, I would have loved more. Overall a great Read. Highly recommend.

Linnea is The Puppetmaster! I really enjoyed this ARC book.
Linnea took us through her world of twists and turns like a true puppetmaster. The characters were believable and well developed. The story was entertaining and enjoyable and fast paced. A great read with a great reveal ending.

I expected something darker than even Petal or Onyx, expected darkness prevail and the puppet destroyed emotionally while they danced. What I didn’t expect that both dancers pulled the strings and didn’t expect the puppet growing stronger.
This book tells an exciting, riveting story. I was enthralled from the first page and devoured it in one sitting unable to take a break and put it down. The story is intense and unfolds fast, both characters compelling and believable, the plot is fantastic, and the writing is excellent. This book is one of a kind. I loved it and will read it again. 5+ stars!

Two Puppet Stars

White Wrist-Band
Controlled by her impulsive behavior, Alena quits her three-year-long job and recklessly decides to go to a club called The Velvet Rooms in hopes of becoming the next puppet to the infamous Puppetmaster, Raad, who is rumored to change the lives of the women he has been with.
Alena doesn't know if he'll choose her, and as she feels the weight of her decisions, her life turns upside down when he does choose her (otherwise we wouldn't have had a story) and flies her across the country to be his slave for however long he chooses.
Both Alena and Raad don't expect the growing feelings they have towards one another and all the secrets coming with them.
"Yet, here we are.
A Master and his devoted puppet.
Caught in a dance that neither one of us wants to end."

The Characters
Alena, Pet, Prey (yap that's her surname), is a reckless naive, impulsive woman drowning in the guilt of her past actions trying to find remedies in the arms of a man who treats her like trash but can bang her good against a wall. While she has fire and is feisty at times, we don't really see much of that since apparently erotic books can't have good, layered complex characters.
Despite my dry tone, I still liked being inside her head. She chose to view her experience with the Puppetmaster as liberating and I understood way too easily her adoration of not having to make decisions involving her life.
“I’m forbidden to do anything but sit here in silence. I can’t speak, I can’t move around at will, I can’t even raise my eyes.
I’m confined to abide by his command—and I’ve never felt more free.”

Michael Raad Brower is a manipulative businessman, who uses his certified slaves to get what he wants. There was nothing about his character I loved or even remotely liked. He was mean, cold, a real douchebag most of the time who took no consideration in Alena's feelings or people in general.
“I’m lost. For the first time in my life, I have no fucking idea what to do.”

What I Liked
Not much. The writing was sometimes enjoyable, and Alena's thoughts were comfortable to be inside. The sex scenes were hot. That's about it.
“And she’s mine now. I can do whatever the fuck I want with her.
Whatever. The. Fuck. I. Want.
“Arms behind your back,” I order. “And leave them there.”

What I Hated
This is going to be long:
1. Alena is NOT like other girls, with her perfect curves and features.
2. Raad is a complete and utter asshole.
3. The ending didn't make any sense. It was abrupt. I didn't know what hit me before I tired the page and found myself staring at the epilogue. I think some chapters were missing.
4. Good for you Alena, for asking questions, but how about be smart and not do everything he tells you to do? How about you don't sign everything he tells you to sign?
5. This isn't a romance book, it's an erotic book, which just means it's filled with tons of sexual themed scenes, with no characters developments and barely any inside conflict. While I understand the appeal of wanting to read porn, I needed something different while reading this book. Also, the plot and the main twists made absolutely no sense.
6. I didn't care about any of the characters. I didn't like any of them, they had so many unlikeable traits it physically hurt to read about their inner thoughts outside of the sex scenes.

Devotion
I actually liked the phasing of this book until about the 60% mark, from there on it became stupid, fast-phased and stupid. I honestly felt like I was reading a different book.
Anyway, The Puppetmaster is good for only one thing: its sex scenes. The rest is just decorations to call it a book.
"People would be surprised at how little it takes to make a puppet dance for you just like you want them to. It’s so easy that it’s almost appalling to me."

Tropes: BDSM romance, slave-master, erotic romance, rich hero.
Trigger Warning: toxic relationship, degradation, humiliation.
Heroine: 3/5
Hero: 1/5
Writing: 4/5
Plot: 2/5
Romance: 2/5
Sex Scenes: 4/5
Side Characters: 1/5
Reread: no

The cover, blurb, and an excerpt I read, all urged me to purchase this book.

Alena Prey quits her job on the spur of the moment because her boss, Mr. Hammond, won’t take her ideas seriously and she’s busted her butt to get a promotion. But, when it’s not forthcoming, Alena quits, and leaves. Her friend, Melina, works at the Velvet Rooms, a BDSM club, who gained Alena access to the club.

The Puppetmaster, Michael Raad Brower, who prefers to be known as Raad in his normal life, uses this club to conduct his ‘hunts’ – to take those he deems fit enough to dangle from his strings, until he tires of them, and cuts them loose. But no-body ever sees them again, and rumours abound as to their fate.

Alena first came across the Puppetmaster whilst visiting the club a few years ago. When she quits her job, she comes across information that he will be conducting his next hunt, and Alena signs up at the last minute to be considered for the next puppet opening – the morning of his hunt. This doesn’t please Raad, whose instructions are that the list is to be cut off, 36 hours prior to the hunt.

Throughout the story, there is the taste of something deeper than just the next puppet where Alena and Raad are concerned. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but it was a little slow to reveal how Alena grew up, what she had to contend with, and the mention of her sister. It is obvious that Alena is hiding a deep, dark, secret. But the reader doesn’t get to find out exactly what that secret is until closer to the end of the story, where the reader also finds out what Raad is hiding, and how Raad and Alena have been connected. The last part of this story, I feel, was rushed, considering the slow-moving story that unfolds up to the last few chapters.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. But I feel that the Puppetmaster should have been a little sterner. After all, a Master in a Master/slave dynamic wouldn’t let the ‘puppet’ get away with what Alena got away with. In my opinion, he should have been a more consistent character. And, although Alena has been written as sassy, she isn’t sassy the whole time. I did enjoy reading their story, and it was written well enough for me to recommend. A firm 4-star read.

I have been anxiously waiting for this story and it is so well worth the wait! It’s completely mesmerizing! The story of Raad aka The Puppetmaster and Alena, his latest puppet will hold you captive from beginning to end. Alena needs something in her life and feels only the Puppetmaster can help her, but will he pick her out of all the woman that come to meet with him? When Raad sees Alena, he knows she will be perfect. But will she be able to withstand his ways once he gets her home? These two characters have chart topping chemistry and you just know in your very heart and soul that they belong together. But will secrets from the past come to light? Can Alena finally realize she deserves someone in her life? Is Raad the one? So much goes on in this story that it will keep you riveted to your seat and you won’t want to put it down. The only way to find out if these two amazing characters end up together is to read this brilliant story. This author continues to blow my mind with her incredible stories!

I joyously received an arc if this book for a fair and honest review. There are people who love roller coasters. I am one of them. I know the majority of people love the chaos, the fact that you can scream as loud as you want in joy and a touch of fear and because of centrifugal Force you are defying gravity. That’s the reason most people enjoy roller coasters. But me, from the moment all the safety devices click into place it’s all about the climb. The slow and steady movement of the cars, knowing that there’s a huge drop and the chaos will begin. That it was reading this book was to me. I actually thought, around the 44% mark that a cliffhanger was waiting at the end of this book. But this book did a 180 for me around the 95% mark. Alena was the most unsub submissive ever and the puppet master was sometimes mastered himself. Raad was an enigma throughout the entire book but I enjoyed the mystery that was him. It looks like Ms. May has Riley’s story teed up next so I will anxiously await the telling of it.

Alena quits her job when the huge amount of work she did was again not appreciated by her boss. She decides that she has nothing to lose and goes to the Velvet Room hoping to be chosen by the Puppetmaster. Alena does end up chosen and goes to live with her master.
Michael Read Brower is the Puppetmaster. He chooses a girl every so often to live with him and he his puppet until he tires of them. He has been stalking Alena for years and keeping track of her. Alena is much smarter than the other girls and figures out what Raad is up to.
This book is phenomenal! You have lots of intrigue. Raad is keeping important secrets. Characters are marvelous. it was amazing the control Raad had over her life and she had no idea.I love how some past characters and venues from her other books are mentioned in this book. It covers a very hot couple and a cute kitty cat.

OMFG!!! This book was AMAZING it blew my mind with the plot twist and turns. I went into this thinking one idea of what this might be about but it was Soooo much more. The Puppetmaster plays his puppet's so well until Alena then his very controlled world becomes blurred. Can he regain control before it's too late? Will she be the one who sees who he really is beyond the strings?
I have loved Linnea May books so much but this one is PHENOMENAL I would so give it ten stars if I could.
Bravo Linnea you have done it again!!!!

Wow! This book was so much more than I was expecting. As soon as I read the blurb, I knew I had to read it. The chemistry between these 2 characters was intense from the beginning. I love the sass and attitude from Alena through the whole book, despite her being a puppet. I loved the little breadcrumbs the author dropped through the book about their history, and the twist was perfect! Once I started reading, it was really difficult to stop. This is my second book from Linnea, and she is definitely a favourite author of mine now.

This was a very different book to what I was expecting and even after I had begun reading it, but it was so much more. There was indeed the training of a puppet/girl and some hot sex but there was also intrigue and mystery that isn’t revealed until nearly the end. It was. Interesting that Nate, Raad’s half brother that we met in the Onyx duet, that guides Raad and allows him to accomplish his goals. A really happy ending concludes the story.

Yet another amazing and thrilling story from Linnea.
You will either love or hate Raad, aka..The Puppetmaster.
Little did the unsuspecting Alena know that Raad had known her for quite some time.
Because of Alena's curiousity and stubborn streak, he has to put his secret plans in motion a bit earlier than planned.
This has a very intriguing plot, not to mention fantastic scenes.
It was an honor to be on the review team.
Looking forward to more from this phenominal author.

Once I started reading I genuinely couldn't put it down, was a very sleepy person today because of it. I enjoyed the story of The Puppetmaster, it wasn't as dark as I thought it would be, I was expecting a wee bit more menace and then the twist at the end had me scratching my head as it seemed overly convoluted.

ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review

I thought this book would be ''dark'' but it was a nice charcoal!
The plot was amazing, the story of how Alena wants to be a puppet or toy for Raad, and you find out he has been pulling her strings invisibly long before they met
Lots of twists and unexpected
I received this book through Arc and im glad i got the chance to read it!

I could not get enough, the twists and turns and plot of the story is outstanding and leave you with no way but yes way.
Raad aka the Puppetmaster and feisty Alena dance together so well as they work towards needing each other more then they know. It was so not what I expected but so much more with wonderful characters that will have your complete attention.

This was a great book to read. The characters were complex and we'll developed. The story line was riveting. By the end I couldn't tell who was the puppet and who was the Puppetmaster. I love the way the author utilized the "boomerang" effect it added to the intrigue. I absolutely loved reading this book.

I received an ARC to review this book.

I received this book through Arc and I am giving a voluntary review.
I was looking forward for the release of this book, however I found it quite slow at times making the story drag for at least 75% of the book. Suddenly everything comes rushing to find out the reason The Puppetmaster acts that way and his plans for Alena.

At the same time the book leaves some storylines hanging in the air, for example, what happened with Alena’s sister losing her job. I think this area needing ending, regardless she wasn’t a main character as the book did it for Raad brother.
