There are two things I’m good at: catching criminals and running from my problems. When my estranged brother shows up on my doorstep with trouble hot on his heels, I do the only thing that makes sense. Run. Because I’ll be damned if he drags me down again. Lucky for me, I find an abandoned cottage in the middle of the forest. Perfect hide out, right? Yeah, not so much. Unlucky for me, the house belongs to seven men. Seven sexy as sin men who agree to let me stay. Now, not only am I avoiding my past, I’m trying really hard not to fall for the men. Especially the broody one. Can I resist them and avoid confronting my past? This is a medium-burn, why choose romance. This book contains mature content best suited for 18+ readers. Sex. Cursing. HEA.
Overall I felt this story wasn’t very cohesive. I think the author bit off a bit more than they could chew in terms of the plot. There was so much that they tried to fit into a stand-alone story and it ended up jumping all over the place. I felt like there was some potential for good world-building, but the complex plot points were distracting and there wasn’t enough plot development to give the reader a full understanding of what was going on.
There is no relationship development, it’s very sudden with no build up. They go from strangers to housemates to in a relationship without much exploration of why. The main character never opens up about her past but fully expects to know everyone’s secrets (spoiler, the reader doesn’t really learn the backstory either). The most relationship development and build up in the story actually happens with a character who ends up just being ‘like a brother’ to MC. That was pretty frustrating.
This book is even better than the first one! But mostly because it's much bigger, there is more story and the world expands. The authors writing is absolutely fantastic! What I realised towards the end of the book is that the previous book (The Waters by A.K. Clark) overlaps with this one and we see Ezme after her story has finished. That was amazing. I really loved seeing her, and some of the other characters from the previous book. Flynn is heavily featured in this book, which is great because he is a wonderful character. The world is even more amazing thank I initially thought! Perhaps due to expansion the author did here. But there is a definite complexity of the plot which was not present previously to such extent. So much happens in this book, it is incredible. There are so many new important characters, parts of the plot that author follows, and fast paced action. And the villain is even more evil than the previous one. I loved every minute of it. The main character, Winter is sassy and kickass and a bit different from gentle Ezme, but equally determined and strong. There is more than one guy to choose from here, so she doesn't. The intergroup dynamics are quite interesting and there is a lot of chemistry between the characters. Overall, this is a fantastic book, great series and I can't wait to read more from this author. The best news is that she already announced more books in the series!
Personally, I didn't like that the harem was so uncertain throughout the book. Or that not everyone ended up in it. Or that some characters were killed off. Or that the story kept jumping around so much from plot to plot to plot to plot. At one point I was very confused and had to read back to figure out what was going on. Especially the side plots with the women bounties - I just didn't understand what was going on with their pasts.
I also feel like it didn't really END. It feels unfinished.
The big bad is unconscious & surrounded by everyone but no one has time to just kill him. No everyone needs to flee & no one can spare 30 secs to just stab him. Seriously either kill him off & come up with something else for the weak plot or don’t set up such a ridiculous situation.
I couldn't finish the book after this horrendous plot point.
The writing/plot was choppy, chaotic, weak, rudimentary, and inconsistent. There has been little world building. The men were quickly introduced with little to no background. They seem pretty 2D, interchangeable and totally forgettable.
Supposedly they like the FMC but I have no idea why. So far there hasn't been all that many interactions let alone positive ones. She's basically angry, violent, mean and/or argumentative in pretty much every interaction. She avoids the men a lot. But for some reason there's insta-attraction.
She constantly reminds herself of her own rules which she then promptly breaks for no real reason. Like she tells herself to never tell anyone about such and such. Then in the next paragraph she's telling someone about such and such.
The Wanted-An Enchanted Magic Novel popped up as a recommendation on my kindle store and I’m very glad I took a chance on Rory Miles (a new to me author). Miles introduced a world that is similar to Earth, but with magic. The dialogue was well written and I stayed up late to finish the story.
Winter, the female lead, is a bounty hunter trying to escape a traumatic past and stay off the baddies radar. I was glad that the relationship with her men had a little time to evolve and wasn’t instant love. The men have a good mix of personality too. Miles didn’t delve deeply into the characters’ issues, but it seems like they may be addressed later in future stories. This book ended with a happy for now, which I appreciate, but I would love to learn more about the Winter and her men in the future.
I’ve read several of Miles newer books, and this one unfortunately didn’t hit the same mark.
I still didn’t fully understand what was going on near the end of this book, and questions don’t really get answered. Winters backstory is unclear - you know she’s a latent (no magic) and that her brother accidentally stripped her magic, but that’s about it.
This is a Snow White and the Seven Dwarves retelling, but instead of seven dwarves, they’re seven giant men. While not all of them wanting to be around her or needing her is necessary, it just didn’t feel right to me for an RH plot.
Overall, a lot going on, but also a lot of unclear plot lines. Even with an epilogue, I didn’t feel it was wrapped up well.
Snow White retelling This was a good take on the Snow White fairy tale and a lot happened in this book. My only complaint is I wanted a bit more relationship development. I will say, I had expected Winter to end up with all the guys, so I am a little disappointed, but it made sense with the story. Definitely recommend.
Winter is fierce! She is confident, smart, and knows her strengths and weaknesses. The guys respect her, and fight with her. There were a few time situations seemed a little contrived, or managed a little too easily, but I was caught up in the story and couldn’t put it down. I will definitely be checking out more of this authors works.
What a brilliant enjoyable book, with plenty of action and an engaging storyline. I loved Winter and her take not sh** bad a**ed ness. There was just the right amount of heat and smexy times and a fantastic and colourful cast of characters that I hope to find out more about
This was great... For most of it. For me, it ran out of umph towards the end and I just wasnt very excited about the ending - I didn't feel that much empathy for the characters aside from the MC. Worth a read, enjoyable, but you do have to power through the last 30%.
Honestly? I didn't care for it. It felt too rushed, not detailed enough. I didn't really connect with the characters. I don't feel like they really had any depth.
This book is absolutely wonderful! I loved it from page one and couldn't get enough of this story. Such a fascinating read with seven smoldering hot men, and a bold and feisty female heroine. This story is filled with twists and turns and a storyline with characters whom you cannot help but fall for. I love fairytale retellings and RH stories and this book did not disappoint. It was amazing from start to finish and I definitely recommend this book!
Winter is a self made bounty hunter with a horrendous past. She had her magic stollen. When her past is about to catch up with her she runs. She finds a seemingly empty cottage that she makes her home. A few days later 7 men show up and claim it. She is brave, snarky and sexy. Can she resist these men? Can she survive her future ; while reluctantly pulling them in? This doesn't end in your normal HEA but is well worth the read.
AMAZING TWIST ON SNOW WHITE & SEVEN DWARFS This book is a non-stop, have to see what happens, having me up to all hours reading because I can’t put it down type of book! Winter is a strong bad ass woman that knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to take it! The men are HOT and I loved how she stuck true to the plot of Snow White and the men worked in a cave, although they had a different purpose……you need to read to find out! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!!
This is a new to me author and she knocks it out of the park this is a standalone with room to expand with other characters story's added, so you get a HEA! I loved the story and the characters are well developed Rory had been added to my list for authors to watch for will for sure read more of her books!
I love love loved this book. It's filled with bad-ass characters and lots of action, romance, and steam. The plot is amazing and the world(s) are well developed. I really enjoyed the intricacies of Winter's relationships and seeing them develop. It makes you want your own cottage to live in with all the men!
This book is a mega one at around 400 pages. Great level of world building adding to a rich story. Lots of action and highs and lows. Great twists and serious emotional moment. Great read
This is inspired by Snow White. The mc is a bounty hunter with some sassy. She is on the run and finds a house that belongs to seven guys. There are some twists and turns with some steamy times between with some of the guys. I really enjoyed the characters.
I gave this a five star. A Must Read. How can you go wrong with 7 men, magic and a strong FMC. Loved the twists the story took and loved the fact that there was some jealousy going on. This was a medium burn but I feel that added to the story. Enjoy!
I got sucked into this book from the very beginning. This book was really well written and I absolutely recommend reading it. The hot sexy men and there need to love and care for winter even her really good friends.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed this book much more than I expected. Winter was strong and comical. The men each had their own personalities and thoughts and I enjoyed the fact that not all of them were interested in Winter. I enjoyed the world building and really hope to see books based in the other worlds as well.
I really enjoyed this book! The writing was really good and the Mc is strong, loving, damaged, and funny in so many ways. And her men? Love them so much. I’m so hoping for more of winter and her men.
I really enjoyed this read! The FMC was tough and got crap done ... would love if there was a prequel where we find out more about her past. Great read!
