House of Kaimar #3

The Bodyguard’s Breeder

Rate this book
My alien is engaged.

Yeah, I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one.

Apparently, Kade and his fiancée are desperate to have a baby and that’s where I come in. Except the longer I’m around the couple, the more I’m not so sure this is arrangement is a good idea. Or that the happy couple is even happy...

There’s a part of me that wants to get pregnant as soon as possible so I can be left in peace. However, each of Kade’s gentle touches and soft kisses compel me to change my mind.

With the impending war looming, Kade is more insistent I stay close at all times, but the more I’m around him the more I’m in real danger.... of falling for him.

*It’s not necessary, but highly recommended that the series be read in order.

Miranda Bridges began sneaking romance novels as a teenager and did not confess to reading them until she became a legal adult. After years and years as a voracious reader she woke up one day with a story in mind. She decided to write it down in order to silence her imaginary friends, but they’ve grown in number and have gotten louder. When she is not reading, writing, or drinking coffee she is taking care of two princesses who are of a reading age. Needless to say Miranda is still hiding romance books around the house, but now some of them have her name on the cover.

Getting abducted by aliens was the best thing to ever happen to me.

I don’t know why I expected a better life than the one I had on Earth,” I say, roughly wiping away my tears. “My soul is dark and fucked up, so why wouldn’t everything else be?”

This one was a tad bit more emotional. I like this series enough but it’s just kind of bland. Maybe it’s the page count? They’re all around 150 pages is that enough to get all the emotions and action needed? I don’t know. I really like Eleanor and Kade. The extra previous engagement drama was a little over the top. The fiancée is evil. Really? I kind of would have preferred her to love Kade and want a baby by any means. That would have been a real tear jerker. But this just seemed too perfect and that’s where the boring comes in. These stories are too perfect.

Doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I really like the females in these stories. And Eleanor was just as great. I’m actually dying for Bones’s story. The doctor needs his happily ever after.

I went into this rubbing my hands together for some exciting alien drama. I mean her mate has a fiancée!! Welp, I should've learned my lesson after the harem letdown last book, because it's not the juicy I was hoping for.

Eleanor was rescued from her abusive father by Kade. (I believe in the first book) There evidentially was some spark, but she found out he was engaged, so she’s been avoiding him. This book starts out with Kade taking the job as Morgan’s bodyguard so he can be around Eleanor.

The issue is although feeling guilty, she partakes in the relationship pretty quickly, and a mate bond is formed. When the fiancée finally shows up midbook, (while they’re in bed) she’s a total bitch, so we don’t feel sorry for her, and it’s all settled rather quickly…. Which killed much of the drama. The “mystery” part is the bigger issue, which was ok, but there’s a lot of filler… and I got bored.

Bottom Line- The fiancée is handled in a “safer” way, that may appeal to some readers, but made it ho-hum for me. We do get a little more on the “gargoyle race” the Boraq’s, that will be in her spinoff series. I won’t be moving on to Kade’s junkie brother’s book. It’s starting to feel repetitive, so I'm stopping here.

Like previous books in the series The House of Kaimar, this one was amazing. There was everything there to be in the book. But as I've mentioned before, I'd like to see more of the male views.
But that doesn't mean Lia, Morgan and Eleanor wouldn't be fun. They all had their own distinctive character.
The books are just amazing and I'm looking forward to the next sequel.

The Delight
No just no! This one got me mad from page one. Luckily a few things cleared up, but no no-no.

Review
This story kind of pushed me to the point of stopping. The first two books pushed me to wonder what happens to them, but this one gets me angry at this group of misogynist men. Now that they are on the planet, the political intrigue is getting deeper as the purists wants the humans to be executed or at the very least returned to their planet. Then there is the fact that they pulled the women off Earth which is in a section of space for reptilian creatures. Those creatures are on the attack.

Eleanor caught Kade's eye on Earth and while he wasn't supposed to leave the area, he heard her cries and rescued her. Big problem. Kade's engaged. The secrecy surrounding this engagement is what throws a lot of no-no-no into this story. Kade also trains the wolf-like animals on this planet and doesn't have the gift of telekinesis. Being a mighty warrior though, he is put on protection duty of the queen, Morgan, from the last story who is pregnant with the king's son. Mated but not married. Being engaged himself, he wants Eleanor but all he can offer is to take her as a breeder which she semi-fights.

Attracted to the male, she tries to resist, but ultimately like every other woman in these stories, she gives him to the passion. The next morning the fiance shows up and makes it known Eleanor is just the breeder, not the wife.

This is where all of it pisses me off. One, Eleanor can't resist Kade and Kade mates Eleanor even while engaged to the other woman. Mating isn't the same as being married. He wants it all. Maybe not, but we don't get to see into his mind.

We learn why Kade is engaged. We learn about his brother (next book) and we learn that these women are all brainwashed by alien cock. It must be magically delicious is all I can say. Throw in a little kink and we start to run into the BDSM side of romance that I think feels pushed, wrong and forced to make the story more interesting. Again a love-hate relationship with this series. And you guessed it. She is pregnant by the end.

Oh and the purist are infiltrating the world and ready to take them all out. The battle with the reptilian race is over and won. Now just to get past the civil war coming.

Kade and Eleanor

This one was a bit slow.

Kade is already engaged to one of his own kind but pursuing Eleanor. He actually saved her when she was being beat on on Earth.

A lot of back an forth between them. I actually like how each human has a talent they brought from Earth. Liz a counselor, Morgan Criminal Justice and Eleanor Animal knowledge.

Tensions are rising with the Purists.

Nothing exciting going on in this one.

This series is just lacking that flare of creativity. It’s so similar to so many other breeder needed series in SFR that there’s just nothing making it stand apart.
The writing is light, there’s not a lot of depth or details. It’s just middle of the road and quick if that makes sense.
This H, Kade, has a mean fiancé when he meets the h, Eleanor.
The hot scenes, weren’t very hot.

This novel was well written and edited, with few if any typos and no missing words or wrong word choices. The world building was great, including political intrigue that was exciting to read about. The characterization was excellent, with the heroine especially being a vibrant sympathetic character. The heroine was the sole narrator in this novel. I also got a good feel for who the hero was as an individual, even though we don't get any of his point of view. This novel had suspense and action aspects that helped keep up my excitement reading this novel. This novel had high angst or internal conflict, but also high stakes or external conflict. The high angst in this novel was largely caused or contributed toward by high external stakes, so I was able to enjoy the high angst elements because of that. My least favorite narrative structure for a romance novel tends to be high angst and low stakes. This novel had a satisfying Happy Ever After ending, so that was a huge plus. I recommend this novel for anyone who enjoys alien abduction sci-fi romances.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Bentornate Fenici!

Formulaic Simple & Smutty Sci-Fi Romance
▪️ A human woman with a sad backstory, becomes a Dravian's breeder. Insta-mates leads to insta-love. The Dravian has to prove to his insecure mate, that she's more than a breeder to him.
▪️ Dravian males are protective & possessive.
▪️ OW drama

▪️ The Two Continuing Plot Threads:
① The Purists who don't want human breeders.
② The Yulat war, started bc the Dravian went into their territory to get human women.

🥱 The slightly porny sex scenes are blending together, and are mostly skimmed.

In books 2 & 3, the h's enjoy being "punished" (spanked) by their Dravian males. Even though the women were physically abused, they have no fear of their trustworthy, near-perfect mates.

🚨 SPOILERS BELOW

🇲‌🇨‌🇸‌: (ages unknown)
Eleanor is barely described. Her sob story: She used to work on the farm for her pervy father. He was a religious nut who kept her secluded and beat her. She thinks often about her sinful nature and the darkness of her soul. Ugh. 🙄 She has scars inside & out. (Note to Self: see highlights).

▪️She's a virgin, but the word isn't used so as not to offend.
▪️She masturbates, but it's thankfully not detailed.

Kade works in security and becomes Morgan's bodyguard to get closer to Eleanor. He has a fiancée he doesn't love. He owes her family money due to his drug-addicted brother.

🔸Eleanor learns Kade disobeyed orders by kidnapping her; he heard her cries, saw her beaten, killed her father, and took her away.

🔸Kade asks to make Eleanor his and Chevali’s breeder, but she refuses. She wants his heart like he has hers.

🔸Eleanor spends time with venolites, wolf-like creatures. Kade gives her a pup for protection.

🔸The Yalat invade the palace and are killed.
🔸The Boraq, gargoyle-like aliens and Dravian allies, help fight the Yalat war. In exchange, they'll get 15 human females to find their heartmates. (A spin-off.)
🔸Two of Zaden's guards are Purists. One tries to kill Morgan and is killed; the other has his leg ripped off by a Boraq. There's a lot of blood. Eleanor's response: "Well, that was exciting." 🙄

🔸Chevali's father agreed to the marriage because Kade will someday lead his house and sit on the council, due to his brother's addiction. Turns out, Chevali and her family are Purists, and they're secretly making the breeders infertile.

🔸Chevali and Huxley (OW in book 2 who was arrested for trying to harm Morgan) have teamed up. Their actions help the Yalat, in their attempt to kill all the breeders. They're eventually arrested.

🔹Kade breaks up with Chevali. He then releases Eleanor from being a breeder and tell hers to go. This could've provided some good angst, but no, they reconcile quickly. She tells him she's pregnant; he's happy, and they're in love—big whoop. ☹️

Eleanor is magically healed by the power of love.
The purity of his love has vanquished the darkness in me, freeing me to love without fear.

❤️ Eleanor's Final Thoughts Summarized: ❤️
I’ve come a long way from being a scared, broken woman to the confident, healed person I am now. Kade has taught me so much, but what stands out most is his unconditional love. He fought for me when I was too weak, and he accepted me when I couldn’t stand myself. Through his love, I’ve learned to love myself too. And I’ve realized that even a little love can make a huge difference.

Morgan is now queen, mated to King Zaden. She added humor and was more likable in small doses. In her first trimester she's getting big quickly, as the gestation period is short.

Lia uses her psychology degree to counsel the women, including Eleanor, helping her heal from the trauma inflicted by her father.

This was okay . The story wasn't as good as book 2 (my favorite so far), and the romance was blah . Despite all the flowery language, I didn't feel the love. I didn't care as much for the MCs either. I had to skim to reach the end after losing interest in the story (around the halfway point).

- Now there are 3 pregnant women, but no babies yet.
- The F-word continues to be a joke. Not laughing.
- Not enough descriptions of characters or scenes.
- Completely forgettable.

I'm going to try to read the next book. It will be a DNF if it's like this one.

WHERE WAS THE EARTH SHATTERING ANGST?
NOT GONNA LIE, I picked this one up because I was so ready for some good ol' angst that just makes me want to rip the pages apart BUT BUT BUT....nah there wasn't anything I've never read before and to be honest, the Hero came off damned creepy in the beginning.

If a male (no matter how hot) came up to you and started spouting lots of sexual things he wanted to do TO YOU...how would you feel? And note that you're not sexually experienced or even in the mood for hot sex with a stranger. LOL!

Written in first person by Miranda Bridges, The Bodyguard’s Breeder is book 3 in The House of Kaimar series, and follows the Dravian alien Kade from the house of Kaimar and his human mate Eleanor. (Something I forgot to mention in prior reviews; these books are written from a single perspective, which is that of the human female’s, and not back-and-forth between the male and female. I found this format to be a breath of fresh air from the usual books with dual perspectives.) Unlike Morgan and Lia (from books 1 & 2) Eleanor was not studying at the Hays University in Missouri, where the women were abducted from. Eleanor lived and worked on a farm with her father, which was located on the outskirts of the university’s property. We later discovered that Kade was about to abduct a different female at the university (with the goal of impregnating the women to repopulate their dwindling species) when he heard Eleanor’s cries during one of her father’s beatings. Kade killed her father, saving her from his life-long abuse, then took her aboard the Phoenix and ultimately to his home planet of Najarie. Kade was a guard for the royal palace. We first met him in the last book when he was tasked with guarding the future queen Morgan. Kade was engaged to a Dravian named Chevali, which he agreed to do in exchange for paying off his brother’s debt to her family. Kade’s brother, Kolton, was a councilman who developed an addiction to drugs after he lost his mate. After stumbling across his own mate on Earth, Kade eventually broke off the engagement in order to claim Eleanor as his mate.

Dravians resemble elves in human folklore, with long white hair and pointed elf like ears. There are 5 houses of Najarie. The house of Kaimar is the oldest of the five, and their line tends to give birth to people who possess the gift of telekinetic abilities. The largest house is Mankoi because they possess the most Dravian females. The other houses are Tari, Fael, and Silae. Each one has played a significant role in Najarie history, and is why they are the only houses recognized. Novar is their spoken language, which can be learned by a simple retinal scan, though most Dravians speak English so it’s not necessary. Kade is from the house of Kaimar, represented by the braids in his hair, and he is one of the few who possess the gift of telekinesis. Over the years, the Dravians have quashed mating bonds through breeding to keep their species from experiencing feelings, which were viewed as a weakness.

Eleanor was Kade’s one true mate (even though he was engaged when he first took her as a breeder), verified by his eyes changing obsidian whenever his mate was in danger, and by his newfound feelings of possessiveness, obsession and jealousy. This was a big deal because of the rarity of mating bonds within their species. Once a mating bond had formed, infidelity was impossible and the ONLY thing that mattered was their mate. The couple officially had sex, taking Eleanor’s virginity, in chapter 6, at the 35% mark. I read this genre of books specifically for the raunch. Delaying sexual intercorse anytime after the 48% mark is like dangling the cheese so long it molds. I’m glad the author didn’t wait too long to get to the juicy bits, and rather preferred them getting down and dirty quickly. So far, each book rewards the reader with 3 different acts of sexual intercourse, making this series one of my many favorites. A Dravian’s kiss is like an aphrodisiac, making the woman’s body tingle and heat up from the point of contact to her clit. *sigh* What we wouldn’t give for that to be a thing. Am-I-right ladies? 🤪

Eleanor befriended a mated pair of venolites, which are wolf-like wild animals, one of which saved her life. The war with the Yalats took place in this book, with the Yalats attacking Najarie and the Dravians winning, barely. We learn that Chevali was a part of the purists and only wanted to marry Kade for the probability of him taking his brother’s seat on the council. We also learned that the house of Mankoi was who caused their infertility. There was A LOT going on in this book, and I’m sure I missed a few key details. 😎 Staying true to the theme, Eleanor became pregnant quickly with Kade’s baby.

Eleanor’s father was a world-class piece of shit. He beat her, isolated her from the rest of the world, and believed that women were evil, only created with the purpose to tempt men to sin. There was lust in his gaze when he looked at her and deemed Eleanor worthy of punishment because she tempted her own father sexually. He wanted her. And when it became too much for him to bear, the beatings would come. Her entire back is covered in scars from the beatings. So, yeah… trigger warning.

My biggest pet-peeve with this book (aside from the couple’s lack of healthy communication with each other) was the spanking. Getting her ass beat on the regular turned Eleanor into a masochist, which is a very probable scenario that has happened a time or two in reality. The couple appeared to have a dom/sub relationship and even though I am into the dom/sub roles, their chemistry rubbed me the wrong way. Even though I am not personally a victim of abuse or SA, the book probably should’ve come with a trigger warning. Just saying. 🤷‍♀️😒 The line of consent was more clear in this book than the last one, so at least there was that.

Overall, this series worth the read (so far) if this genre of books is in your wheelhouse. It had the perfect balance of adventure and romance. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. 😇🫶🏻 I really hope that Miranda made an offshoot with the Masse of the Boraq of Sulrim because now I want to follow his story with his human mate.

So this book really pissed me off...how are we just gonna slide past that & pretend you didn’t just say what you just said!!!

Spoilers::
All these powerful men in high positions of power have fallen in love with the human woman...so why are they still being referred to as breeders who apparently have zero parental rights to their offspring?!!??!?
Second, you’re just going to hand over half of them to a different alien race. Not even going to have a conversation with them first?!? Right....it seems the patriarchy corrupts every-damn-where

Better than I expected

Based on some of the other reviews, I expected to be throwing my Kindle across the room. I was expecting the female lead to not have any choice in anything and I expected her to be completely manipulated by the people around her. While I agree that Eleanor needed some real counseling, I don’t see all the hate. When you read these books, you know you’re coming for the cracktastic crazy. They are alien breeder books. Seriously. Alien. Breeder. Books. You have to suspend disbelief while reading them. If these stories were about more contemporary situations, I might understand some of the frustration and the concerns. But I think people read these books for a reason: to escape their lives and escape reality. This book wasn’t as good as the previous two and I do agree that it had some problems. But not to the point that I would leave a one star review and lose my ever loving mind about things. I’m going to keep reading the series because now I need to know how this thing ends.

Who knew bodyguards could be so hot when they are not even hers?

Written for mature readers only (18+ years old) due to subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence such as abduction, human trafficking so to speak, physical and mental abuse, fighting with some to the death, spies, etc.

This is the third story in the series and while it could probably be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend it be read in series order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers as there are reoccurring characters and an overall storyline arc with their enemies.

There are a few grammatical errors, but less than previous stories in the series, and nothing too egregious or difficult to interpret. I really found Eleanor and Kade’s story line emotional and liked the way it was handled in a PNR story.

There are a lot of swoon worthy episodes here which I loved. I did not like Kade at first, he is a lovable guy I admit but courting Eleanor when he is already engage, that is just not right. But then, when the truth came out and he did what he did, he just redeemed himself and went straight up to the list of my lovable characters.

I loved that we get to watched Eleanor grow and bloom into a wonderful person, thanks to Lia and of course, Kade. Without her friends to support her, she wouldn’t have made it.

I enjoyed reading the story of a Kade and Lia. I didn’t even notice that I reached the end of the book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Read to know how we get from 1 to 3

The best part is how Bridges entwines each book in the series But still each book And yet each of its own story.

1: He lowers his head, bringing his lips to my ear, his whisper more like a caress than anything else. “I want to know you in every way: body, soul, and mind, Eleanor. And I’ll do whatever it takes to win you.”

2: He will soon learn that I am not so easily swayed. Or my resolve so easily cracked. You can’t break that which is already broken. My father made sure of that.

3: He fought for me when I was too weak to fight for myself, and he accepted me when I couldn’t stand who I was. But in loving me, he helped me learn to love myself.

The human women are taking over the planet. lol. I love this series so much. I wish book 4 was out already I need more.

Good

Eleanor is one of the humans that were kidnapped to become breeders for an alien race.
Kade is the engaged, bodyguard for the human woman mated to the Dravian king.
Eleanor knows Kade is attracted to her, but he is already spoken for, and all she can be is his breeder. Can she make him change his mind?

This is the third book in this series, about human women who are kidnapped by the alien Dravian race. Each romance is stand alone, but part of an ongoing story, so you need to read them in order.
This book features an abused woman, and an overly protective male. The romantic situation is rather complicated, but it all works out in the end!

A fun, quick read, and enjoyable addition to the series. Recommended for those who enjoy sci-fi alien romance!

This book was ok. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. Again, I wish the author had given us Kade’s POV. The entire book is told from Eleanor’s POV. We were introduced a bit more to another species that is also having fertility issues and needs humans. I suspect that there will be a spin off series with these guys.

While Kade is patient with Eleanor, and it’s clear he loves her, Kade’s brother Colton is introduced in this book, and it appears that he get his own story next.

I’m giving this a 4 because I did enjoy it, and I could see myself reading it again. However I definitely had some problems with this one. First off, when I’m reading a romance I feel yucky if there isn’t monogamy. Obviously with Kade already being engaged this was a problem for me. Like Eleanore would just be his side piece? Yuck. On top of that I kept feeling like she needed to comment on this more. I didn’t like that. Of course this could be personal preference;)

2ndly, how is no one asking what happens with the mother if she’s a “breeder”? Does she just give her baby away? WTF. I would think that we be a major concern and no one mentions it, unless I missed it, then totally my bad.

So I had issues with the story and some of the MC’s at times, but overall I enjoyed it.

Ok, so this one hit me. It felt like an authentic journey of heart for someone that has been through abuse. I know my story wasn't much different from hers even if it was an ex instead of a father. OF COURSE it was super sped up and that kind of healing takes TIME TIME TIME but its a fantastical book. Reading her thoughts, its grounded in a real experience. There is a connection of soul in what can sometimes be a very surface level genre that's all about world building and not focused on connection of person. This is why I love this author. I wished the twists and turns would have taken me more by surprise in this one but I love the writing!
