The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙🤎🖤❤️ Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎 Character development: 😍😚😉🙂🥰 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
The Hero:Trace Weston - he is a charter boat operator in Hawaii and a former playboy and brother to a big time NFL player who is going on a five month dry spell after being left with full custody of his son Ranger whom he had with a one-night stand. He is doing a favor for his brother and sister-in-law by having a one night stand with Macey Garrett.
The heroine:Macey Garrett - she is a beauty influencer from Los Angeles and former sorority sister to Trace’s sister-in-law, Harlow. She had dated a guy named Tom for the last ten years, since she was fifteen years old and right after her Dad died, Tom broke up with her after telling her she was lacking in bed. So she is in need of a self-esteem boost and also wants some tips and tricks because she plans on dating her hot neighbor when she gets back home.
The Story: Trace is all in on the plan to help out Macey, especially after seeing the beautiful woman and Macey was happy to work with Trace to get the confidence boost she is sorely in need of. She is just looking for a good time and Trace is only too happy to oblige especially after hearing about what a douche her ex-boyfriend was and how he treated Macey.
This book is told in dual points of view via solo narration and is narrated by Teddy Hamilton who has a sexy masculine voice and is one of my favorite narrators. Teddy also does a pretty good female voice so is one of the few narrators I don’t mind listening to via solo narration.
The story is good, though the plans for a one night stand turn into bigger feelings a bit too quickly for my tastes. I like the fact that the Hero starts to want more right away, though I just wish they would spend a day or two apart before he is ready to want a full blown relationship. Though I did like both characters and there were some great supporting characters and side storylines as well.
This is the first book I have read in this series, and although there were references and interactions with characters that were from previous installments, I feel this can be easily read as a standalone.
Trace is the brother of a famous professional athlete. They look enough alike that he is sometimes mistaken for his brother, which is how he ended up being a single father to a 5 month old baby boy when a woman attempted to trap his brother and ended up with a very drunk him for the night. But in a way, that night ended up being a good thing for Trace: not only did he get sole custody of his son that he loves, but it forced him to realize that his manwhoring ways needed to come to a stop. Since he became a father, Trace has been a devoted dad with no time for partying even if he wanted to. When his sister-in-law asks for a "little favor," he looks at it as a chance to have a no-strings sex fest for 1-night only with her best friend. After all, he has been told that he is incredible in bed, and if he can help a woman in need and scratch an itch at the same time without worrying about consequences, he may as well have one last hurrah before he looks for a lady to settle down with.
Masey must be out of her mind to let her best friend talk her into a one-night only hot sex experience with her husband's brother. But after having been in a decade-long, orgasm free relationship with a man that she caught cheating on her, she figures she's due a little fun. And from what her bff is saying, Trace is VERY good at the orgasm-giving. Masey decides to give it a go because what's the worst that could happen? It's just for one night.
When Trace and Masey meet the sparks are instant, but Trace wants to know more about Masey to help her have the kind of intimacy she lacked with her 2 pumps-and-done ex. What happens when he starts to feel that there is more to Masey than her ex ever appreciated? Since Masey is just getting out of a long-term disaster, doesn't she need some alone time to figure things out? This was just supposed to be one night after all.... right?
What I liked: --- The chemistry between the 2 main characters was instant and palpable --- I liked the idea of the guy wanting more after the 1-night stand vs the woman --- Steamy goodness was delish!
What I didn't like as much: --- Trace fell a little fast, imo - it didn't feel very organic and almost a little forced at first --- Some of the moments got a little cheesy for my taste --- Masey seemed wishy-washy at times and then overreacted at others - it was a little inconsistent
Overall, this was a hot and steamy read with a cute baby involved and some throwback to characters from earlier books which readers that have read the series will certainly enjoy.
Plot --- 3/5 Main Characters --- 3/5 Supporting Cast --- 3/5 Steam Level* --- 4/5 Violence --- minor fight between 2 guys - nothing graphic or domestic Language --- some POV --- 3rd
*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all
HAVE MERCY that was HOT *fans self* with a huge side of heart!! Perfection!
Sometimes, right when I finish a book I feel so something about it so I’ll jump on Goodreads and just type a sentence or two about that and do a full review later when my brain is calmer. I’ve come back to this book twice since mid-July when I finished and every time, nothing seemed as appropriate than that one sentence. Because that’s what this story was: delicious sexy wrapped in heart! I mean do you need more? Lol Okay, I’ll give you some more, but not much because I’m not a giver like that ;)
Okay, so in typical I just got dumped form, we have a chic with low esteem because of course she thinks it’s all on her and a guy who’s been a bachelor for longer than he can remember except surprise you’re a daddy now! This daddy, we’ll call him Trace (lol) and this chic who needs a little pick me up in the esteem department we can call Masey. Okay, so Masey wants to live it up a little and get her esteem back so she asked her BFF to find her a hook-up. Well, let the sexy games begin :)
You’ll find out the rest after you one-click :) Happy reading!!
I gobbled this up in one day, it was HOT but more than that it has some really likable characters once I got past the reason they were initially introduced.
Trace Weston and Masey Garrett have not had it easy over the last several months and they are both in need of a night of good fun both in and out of the bedroom. But can they end things after just one night? With all the baggage they have that is all Masey is looking for but Trace thinks he may just want a little more...
I didn't enjoy this romance as much as the previous ones in this series. I couldn't connect with Masey no matter how hard I tried. But I loved Trace, that's my boo.
More Than Dare You is the 6th book in the More Than Words series by Shayla Black. Each book is a stand-alone, but I got to admit that some of the things mentioned happened in the previous books and new to the series readers might feel a little out of place.
Masey has gotten out of a very serious and long relationship and wants to spice things up because her ex was worse than Sheldon Cooper when it came to human contact. Trace is the perfect man to do that because he has a very long history of no strings attached "relationships". But from the moment these two saw each other, sparks flew and both craved more.
Τhe only part that I didn't like was the how short the amount of time they spend together was. Masey is in town for 2(?) weeks and everything pretty much happens in that time. I would have liked to have things a little spaced out. It was the only thing that made the romance feel rushed. But judging from Trace's history, this man works fast. His first love and heartbreak happened in the same span as his romance with Masey, but from the way he was talking, I was thinking that he was in a relationship for years.
A part of the story is setting up the plot for More Than Protect You an upcoming novella in the series and I was trying to collect all the crumbs that were given to us. I will definitely read that book too.
The book had some ups and some downs, but overall, I enjoyed it. It was easy to read and it had a nice flow. The downs are not many and don't weigh much on my overall opinion of the book. I consider it one of the good books in the series and I would recommend it.
3.75 stars--MORE THAN DARE YOU is the sixth full-length instalment in Shayla Black’s contemporary, adult MORE THAN WORDS erotic, romance series. This is boat operator and single father Trace Weston, and YouTube makeup influencer Masey Garrett’s story line. MORE THAN DARE YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Trace is Noah Weston’s brother, and Masey is Harlow Reed Weston’s best friend (More Than Love You #3).
Told from first person perspective (Trace Weston) MORE THAN DARE YOU follows the building romance and relationship between boat operator and single father Trace Weston, and YouTube makeup influencer Masey Garrett. Breaking up with her boyfriend of ten years, LA native Masey Garrett finds herself in Maui at the invite of her best friend Harlow Weston but Masey is all about discovering what she is capable of, and in this Harlow sets Masey up with her husband’s brother Trace Weston. Trace Weston, a one-time manwhore might be able to teach Masey a thing or two about $ex both in and out of the bedroom, and in this Masey becomes a challenge for Weston but Weston never expected to lose his heart to our story line heroine. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Masey and Trace, and the potential fall-out as Masey’s time in Hawaii comes to a close.
Five months earlier Trace Weston discovered he was a father when the baby was dropped off at his brother’s front door because the mother thought she had a one-night stand with our hero’s brother. Fast forward to present day wherein Trace’s life revolves around the love he has for his son but when his sister in-law asked for a favor, our hero never expected the favor to wind up in bed with our story line heroine. For ten years, Masey Garrett believed she was a failure in bed having never lived up to her boyfriend’s expectations but catching said boyfriend with an internet porn star left Masey heart broken and feeling like a failure in love. When Harlow offered to set Masey up with Trace Weston, Masey found herself falling for a man who could potentially break her heart.
The relationship between Masey and Trace is one of immediate attraction but a relationship built upon Masey’s need to ‘learn’ about $ex. Masey never expected to fall for her best friend’s brother in law believing she would return to LA to seduce her new neighbor who had captured her eye. As Trace begins his sexual seduction of our story line heroine, Masey’s insecurities reappear to take over her thoughts. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. The palpable sexual attraction is apparent from their introduction.
The small cast of secondary and supporting characters include Noah and Harlow; Trace and Noah’s mother; Amanda, Nia, bodyguard Tanner Kirk, and Masey’s ex-boyfriend Thom. Tanner and Amanda’s story line is next in More Than Protect You
MORE THAN DARE YOU is a story of family, friendships, heart break and betrayal. The character driven premise is engaging and inviting; the characters are lively and sassy; the romance is sensitive, seductive and spirited. My only issue is the use of the word honey-used eighty (80) times by Trace to address our story line heroine-it’s as though he forgot her name, and used ‘honey’ as his only form of address. ‘Honey’ becomes redundant and repetitive, and a big turn-off after the first twenty or so times.
This series has become an automatic one-click for me--which means my standards were high going into this read. Now I'll make it official: my expectations were blown right off their swooning, sighing hinges. But the hot, sexy swoon factor is just the start of what's going on here. I love this book for so many more reasons than that. Important reasons. The core of that reasoning revolves around the story's two protagonists, Trace Weston and Masey Garrett, who agree they're both badly in need of a one-night stand without the Tinder hassle. What happens, of course, is so much more, taking these two through a plot that had me chuckling at times and aching in others--but most of all, rooting for this destined duo in ways that had me thinking about them even when I had to tear myself away from the book (which wasn't for very long periods, I can guarantee you that). Ms. Black's prowess for creating believable, beautiful protagonists is at an all-time high in this book. There's a gorgeous and wonderful maturity in how Masey and Trace connect with each other. They don't have to help each other "grow up" because they ARE grown up, and have processed a lot of their "issues" already. They both already know their baggage; now they're looking for someone with a set that matches--despite how neither of them quite knows it yet! This was a sublimely perfect read for me. It checked every single box for the magical memorability that has become the hallmark of this wonderful series. Brava!
More Than Dare You is the sixth book in Shayla Black’s More Than Words series, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. I read it without having read any of the prior books, and I understood just fine. There were a few details I would have liked a wee bit more of, things that were clear references to the prior books, but it was not enough to lessen my enjoyment.
From the very first page, this one pulled me in. I quickly fell for the characters and had so much fun with their story. The chemistry between them was intense, it pulled me in deeper and deeper into their relationship with every page, and I could not get enough. It was a hot read, one with plenty packed into it, and I could not get enough of it. It certainly has me eager to read the other books in the series, desperate for more of the characters I got to see in this one.
Without a doubt, More Than Dare You was another fabulous read from the author, ensuring I’ll be back for more.
I loved the premise of this title, the woman without a lot of sexual experience, and most of it bad, hooking up with the player, the guy who is going to be able to show her how good sex can be.
And, it's even better that Masey is set up with Trace by a mutual friend, someone who knows both of them and knows what they can do for one another.
I also liked the idea that Trace is struggling with being seen as someone who is only good for one thing, and that there's not more to him Watching him work through that while figuring out that it's possible for him to have a lasting relationship with a woman like Masey was a lot of fun to watch.
I am not going to spoil this one by saying more, but it was really appealing to watch both of them not only figure out what they meant to one another but also to those people around them.
I haven’t read many books by this author so I was a bit hesitant to jump into book 6 in the series but I still really enjoyed More Than Dare and not having read the previous books took nothing away from this steamy romance . Single dad Trace Weston is not looking for love or a relationship but one night with no strings attached with Masey Garrett is just what the doctor ordered problem is one night with the sassy, feisty, stunning Masey was never going to be enough... Both Trace and Masey have issues that need to worked through before they can build a future.... If you are looking for a smoking hot, entertaining read look no further than this book, it’s well written, it has characters who share an intense chemistry , some witty banter and a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Super steamy, and those parts are good. I just wish Trace and Maisy were less....I think the word I am looking for is superficial. Still they are well matched. I also wish there was less focus on everyone (side and main characters) getting/being pregnant. I love being a mother and always have, but unplanned pregnancy (or planned pregnancy for that matter) is not the sine qua non of romance. It would not have bothered me if EVERY woman in the book of childbearing age was not pregnant. It was overkill. Overall it was fine -- you know when you are reading a great romance and when you are doing anything else you are thinking about getting back to it and diving in? That did not happen here.
Trace's gigolo status has always been something he never shied away from. In fact his love for the ladies is well known. But when he is asked to have one night with Masey to literally break her out of her bedroom slump he finds himself not really enjoying his status. Will Masey be the one to break this bad boy out of his customary shell? Or will the baggage she is trying to overcome be too much to be handled? Once again Shayla Black has written a true and honest love story. Making the difference between what is perceived and what is expected to what is the surprising underlying want and need is done in such a way that the reader cannot help but want both characters to work through everything and be together. Throw in Trace's little boy and you have even more to love. Another awesome read in a wonderful series.
Every girl needs to have a Trace and Masey experience once in their life! I just can't, don't want to ruin it. Just read this book today.
Trace is just a swoony bad boy with a questionable past, a broken heart, and so much alpha to share!
And on top of all that, Masey is a You Tube make up star. When she and Trace film a "Boyfriend-Does-My-Makeup Challenge" I laughed out loud and shed a few tears. Just. Loved. It.
The characters are real and lovable and the family connection of the Reeds though all the books makes you want to move to Hawaii and join in the love fest.
More Than Dare You is the 6th book in the More Than Words series and probably my favorite book to date by this author. More Than Words became a fast favorite when book one released and I have loved each book as much as the first and this was no different. This was amazing! But I expect nothing less from Shayla Black.
In More Than Dare You, we have single dad Trace and beauty influencer Masey and they're sexy as hell relationship. When these two came together, they were only looking for a one-night fling. A much-needed one-night but what they got was so much more. This book is a story of two people who despite what they think, are truly meant for each other. I could tell from the beginning that these were an unforgettable couple and they were. They thought it would be a one time fling. They were both adults and living their lives. They both have a past and they both have baggage. . and both wanting a night of heart and passion with someone, so when they agreed on it, they didn't expect what was to come.
I loved these two! I was rooting for them from the beginning. Single dad tropes are one of my favorites and this beauty ticked all the right boxes for me. Trace was perfect and lustful! I couldn't get enough, he and Masey were perfect and the way their relationship grows and comes together throughout the book and the development throughout the story was on point. I devoured this in one sitting!
As always, Shayla goes above and beyond and delivers an outstanding, all-consuming, addictive, and downright delicious and amazing installment to the series! I can't wait to see what she has planned next!!
I'll be going around two very soon that's for sure!
A real man gives up a one-night stand for a woman he can't stand one night without...
This series is close to my heart. I love when authors write about families and their connection to each other. The family dynamics is delightful with this group of brothers and sisters and their significant others. Trace is Noah's brother who is now retired from being a star quarter back for a well-known football team. Trace has established himself running his own boat charter business but has always stayed on the sidelines. He loves his brother and his success, but it has caused self doubts that have stayed with him. That goes hand in hand with his relationships, if any. He has a reputation for his prowess in the bedroom, but that's as far as it goes. He is finding out that being a man whore just isn't enough for him anymore.
He meets Masey who needs assistance in the boudoir. He is set up by his sister-in-law to give her a night she will remember. Masey has been deeply hurt and needs to have her confidence built up. It starts as a one-night stand but very quickly they discover that may not be enough for them both.
This was sexy, hot and steamy but also romantic and the story delves into each of their insecurities. Another wonderful story in this series.
I"m in love with this series. Shayla Black writes stories that her readers can delve right into and not come up for air until we're done. Trace is swoon worthy and Masey, well I did want to smack her a couple of times but she grew on me so hard. What starts as a "one night stand" turns into something they don't expect and I loved every page of it! There's drama, OM stuff with her ex and it's just a darn good story!!!! Be sure to get it and find some time alone to read this.
I really liked this one, I think because both Trace and Masey seemed at a cross-roads and ready for more, but neither expected to find it with the other. It also seemed that both of them had the same issue, just on opposite sides.
I liked how this one started at first, found it funny that Masey wanted a hot night of sex to help her get on with her life, while Trace could use a night out, the first in months after becoming a father. The whole premise started to make me uncomfortable as Trace's issues came up, I wanted more for him, thought he deserved more than he had allowed himself. I did like how Trace saw how fabulous Masey was and wanted to keep her in his life, that he could see things long term pretty quickly. I didn't mind how he manipulated Masey into spending more time with him. Trace took advantage of the time and showed Masey how life could be, helping set the stage for when he could actually talk to her about a future for them.
I was worried towards the end, worried that Masey's need of a bit of time to think would ruin things, then worried that someone else was going to ruin things, instead that moment seemed to clear Masey's head and let her go after what she really wanted, Trace.
This book started off on such a high note and I was super excited to see where it progressed, however after the first few chapters, it sort of plateaued for me. By no means was it a bad read. This was a good book, it just wasn't packed with as much drama or suspense.
More Than Dare you is the sixth instalment in the 'More Than Words' series, and as this was classified as a standalone, I didn't feel the have to read the others. Yes, characters from the other books appeared, so if you have read the other books, you would definitely enjoy their little cameos and other Easter eggs.
This is the story of Masey and Trace, who are set up by their friends for a one night stand together, but things don't go as planned, and they end up spending more time together than they originally planned to. This is not a bad thing though, as both seem to really like being around each other, and click effortlessly- it also helped that from the moment they met they shared this crazy attraction. Before you know it, deep feelings begin to arise and they both have to decide if they are going to stick around and be with each other or go their separate ways like they originally planned.
Most of it was from Trace's P.O.V- which i liked- so we really got to hear a lot more about his and Masey's relationship from him, and aside from being a complete stud muffin, the man was incredibly in-tune with his feelings. He wasn't one of those macho men who know act like assh*les to try and hide he fact that he's falling for the girl. No, he very much embraced the fact that he wants Masey by his side, and did whatever it took to keep her there.
As for Masey, she was a lot more hesitant about expressing her feelings for Trace. Which is understandable considering she's just coming out from a ten-year relationship with a colossal douchebag. And while I sympathised with her, there were moments I just wanted her to forget about her ex and stop allowing him have power over her actions. She spoke about him so much, I was afraid Trace wouldn't be able to get through to her enough so he could make her see that he had so much more to offer (gladly, she did though).
The entire book was a quick read and there were tons of cute moments between Masey and Trace. I would definitely pick this up to unwind after one of those intense dark reads that have lots of drama.
I will admit I am normally not one that loves single Dad romance, however, Shayla knocked this one out of the park. How could you not fall for Trace?
Trace has previously been a player and was used to getting what he wanted when he wanted it. He has really never been the relationship type, however, due to his circumstances that is changing for him. One night changes it all. A favor turns into a desire he has never known. Is this what he has been missing? Can this hot and single Dad offer his world to Masey?
Masey is an incredible heroine. I really loved Shayla's touches of detail with her and her job as an influencer. She is really lacking in the love department and really feels she just needs one night to shake the cobwebs off. She gets WAY more than she bargained for. Could she be a good fit in Trace's world? Is he what has been missing in her life? She really starts to think so ;).
I DARE YOU to read this. It is swoon worthy and contains some really hot between the sheets scenes. This is an amazing addition to the series. Shayla has done it again!!
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is my first book by this author and this book is also part of a larger series. That said it also easily stands alone. It stars Trace, who is a brand new single dad to a baby who is 5 months old. He has a brother, Noah and sister in law, Harlow , who offer the single dad a blind date with Harlow's best friend, Masey who is visiting Hawaii after a very bad breakup. She wants one night of hot sex with a sex expert.
However life gets in the way and instead the two end up getting to know each other and while teacher Trace shows her the ropes, Trace catches feelings but does Masey?
I enjoyed this story a lot. I loved how giving and vulnerable Trace made himself to try and win Masey. This story is told entirely in Trace's POV and I usually like dual POV but honestly it didn't need Masey's. In fact I never really felt like we needed to know what was going thru her head.
There is one chapter where we get her thoughts and I enjoyed it and seeing where she was coming from. But Trace is such a strong character that I did not need anything buy his POV. If you enjoy lots of sex scenes then you will love this story. I also loved that there is a ploy to this styory and its not just sex scenes.
Trace Weston, is a reformed womanizer, only because he became a full time single dad with the birth of his son 5 months ago. He is a boat captain in Hawaii and is usually mistaken for his brother who is a ex pro football star. He thought his life was complicated before. Now his sister-in-law has asked him to show off the famous bedroom skills to her bestie. It seems Masey Garrett has been in a long term relationship and the sex with her now ex has been less than pleasant. Masey isn’t his usual bold, blonde type, she’s sassy but shy, gorgeous and so kind hearted. Trace has to dare Masey into a no strings, one night of life changing passion. Now his heart is in it and he needs to make her want more than a night. Time to change the rules...
One night turns into one after another, she's fallen for my son, so now Trace has to up his game to win her over and make her want to stay for the long run. When her past comes to the big island, will Trace have to dare her into forever?
Masey is trying to heal not only from the demise of her decade long relationship with her ex but the hurtful things that he said and did. With the help of her best friend they come up with the perfect way to help her regain her confidence and that is a steamy evening with sexy man to leave her ex in the past where he belongs and her best friend has just the man for the job.
Trace has a reputation with the ladies that is well earned however being a single father has him questioning if there is more to life than the way he has been living it. When he meets Masey he knows that she is special and now he just needs to persuade her that one night is not enough.
The chemistry between them radiates off the pages and Trace is enough to make you swoon as he shows Masey that she is perfect just the way she is.
3.5 stars - quick listen - I wish I had read the others before because even though they are "standalones" they are connected enough that I was confused following the side characters storylines. I never jump in the middle (or end) of a connected series like this but I saw it recommended as a great Teddy Hamilton narration.
This is fully male perspective, which isn't as common and always a nice change up! Trace is a new, single dad to a 5 month old baby. Mazey is looking for a one night stand while in Hawaii and getting over her ex of 10 years. He falls first! They're adorable! A quick listen but lacks any real conflict. Teddy is fantastic though and I enjoyed a full book of only him narrating.
I loved this book and was emotionally involved from the beginning. Masy was in a horrible relationship for 10 years, can Trace show her what she’s been missing? They have such scorching hot chemistry. Is he falling for her? I laughed at the belated” boyfriend does my make up challenge”. They were so great for each other. Didn’t expect to cry, but I did towards the ending. Felt their pain. But thankfully they get a very happy ever after. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.
Trace as a single dad has been missing a key factor of his life, his sex life that is. When he is set up for what should just be a one night stand with Masey it should be perfect. Trace and Masey click on levels they never have with another person: emotional, sexual, and spiritual. Can a not so one night stand lead to love? Trace and Masey work hard to figure it out. Along with cameos of past couples in this series that give more depth to the characters and the series. Can't wait for more in this series by Black.
It’s giving Sydrian I loooove a little shit MMC and a type a FMC. A DILF is a DILF. This one was like the series was having a contest with itself on how fast and instant their couple falls in love and gets engaged so that was a lot. But still cute and no think.
Trace at least knows his boundaries, “honey, if you don’t put some clothes on and get me out of this room, we’ll end up in bed and we won’t be doing much talking.” I liked this book, I liked Trace.
