Katie Murphy is the manager of overnight pop sensation, Duchess, whose biggest gimmick is that no one knows her true identity. Katie’s job is to keep this secret no matter the cost. When Duchess agrees to perform in a benefit concert for wounded veterans, Katie gets more than she bargained for when she meets Chase. Carter Chase went from being a soldier in the Army to volunteering at Veterans’ Aid. The charity helped him through a dark time and he would do anything for them, including help plan a benefit concert. But when he finds out the main act is Duchess, the British pop diva who makes fun of America, he is ready to bail out—until he meets Duchess’s manager, Katie Murphy. As they work together, Chase soon becomes a risk to Duchess’s true identity . . . and also to Katie’s heart.

Katie has loved music all her life. Her biggest dream was to become a famous singer/song writer. She has been rejected by several recording labels and doesn't know if she can handle anymore. When her mom, Shirley, was diagnosed with cancer, she decides to give up her dream and manage the overnight pop sensation, Duchess, so that she can afford the treatments for her mom. The one rule? She must keep Duchess' identity a secret no matter what.

Chase is a wounded vet who is struggling to overcome the trauma of war. At his lowest point he discovered Veteran's Aid, a charity that helps vets like him to overcome dark times. Now he is a volunteer there and will do anything he can to help them out. But when he's asked to help with a benefit concert featuring Duchess, his loyalty for the charity will be tested to the max. There is just something about the pop diva that rubs him the wrong way. He has never liked Duchess and doesn't think she is the right fit for the Veteran's Aid charity benefit. Can he change their minds about Duchess? Or will he have to learn to like the diva?

Sit back and hold on tight as we venture through a journey of love, forgiveness, hope and self discovery. You will laugh, you will cry, and (if you're anything like me) you may even growl a time or two in frustration because of our stubborn hero and heroine.

All in all this was a very enjoyable read! I did not want to put the book down! I was getting frustrated when real life kept getting in the way of my reading time! ;) I do have to say I would have loved an epilogue. It would've been perfect in my opinion! :)

And let me just say that if I didn't know that Duchess was the very first book Nikki Wilson had published, I never would've guessed she was a new author! She is definitely one to keep an eye on! Looking forward to reading more by her! :)

And of course I can't forget my casting! There wasn't a description of our hero (other than dimples and muscles) so this is who kept popping into my mind. Can we say hottie?! ;) Hehe.

(4.5 Stars) Katie is a musical genius who can't land a contract and resorts to managing a new pop star, Duchess. Duchess is all about synthesized music and voice, smoke and mirrors, big wigs, crazy eye colors, and a clash of old and new costumes. This Brit pokes fun at America and that doesn't sit well with vet, Carter Chase. He's helping plan a benefit concert and can't stand the fake Duchess, but there are some sparks with Katie.

My first impression of Duchess was that she's a Lady Gaga knockoff--full of flair, craziness, and attitude, but there's really more to her than meets the eye and her secret identity must be kept at all costs. I think everyone, at one time or another, hides behind a mask to cover our true selves.

Katie is a talented and sweet girl and I love the bond she shares with her mother. Chase shares a bond with her mother, too, since they both volunteer at the Veterans Aid. I love the way their lives criss-cross, even if they are completely clueless and stubborn at times. The banter is quite amusing.

As for the plot-- I laughed, I cried, I groaned in frustration, and I cheered these great characters on in their story. I'm a fan of celebs and enjoyed watching things unfold in a slightly predictable, but very enjoyable, way. I would've loved an epilogue! I'm definitely keeping Nikki Wilson on my radar.

Content: sweet and clean romance. Clean!

This was a fun, quick read with an original storyline. I had a feeling I knew how the story would turn out, but there were still enough twists and turns to keep my attention. I enjoyed the questions the story raised about why we make the choices we do and it made me realize that sometimes we don't even know our own motives as well as we might think. I enjoyed the main character's journey of self-discovery, and the development of secondary characters was nice too. A great first novel for Nikki Wilson!

Love love love the way the relationships weave themselves together in in this clean, fun, contemporary romance. Katie's mom is amazing and I love that there were tears for me in this book. Can't wait for Nikki Wilsons next book!

First, and very important, I love this cover. I remember seeing it when Nikki Wilson revealed it, and I thought then that this cover was awesome. Besides the cover, I really enjoyed this read. It was really fast paced and I quickly read it. The banter between the characters is great. Speaking of the characters, I loved watching Katie and Chase evolve. I appreciated that Nikki had them grow for themselves along with each other. I hate when the author has the heroine change for the guy, but thankfully that doesn't happen here. A fair warning though, there might be tears when reading this book. Just a little heads up without any spoilers.

The only thing I wish I saw was more at the end. I feel like there could have been more there. Maybe even an epilogue. I'm trying real hard here not to give away any spoilers. I would recommend this book. It's a sweet romance, so that means no swearing or sexual situations (but a couple of great kissing scenes). I would even say that teen girls could read this. It tackles some interesting issues in it as well that I think a lot of people can relate to.

I was drawn in by the wounded veterans and the detail of what life is like for them. Katy manager of pop star Duchess (whose identity was known by only a couple of people) was roped into putting together a charity concert to aid the veterans aid facility to purchase a new building so they could grow to meet the needs of more veterans. Katy's Mom Sylvia could cut through the crap and tell it like it is, helped the veterans recover from there traumas.Sylvia also had cancer and her daughter Katy went to great lengths to find a cure for her mom. Katy was thrown together with veteran Carter Chase to put together the benefit concert for the veterans, they rubbed each other the wrong way. Sylvia and Carter were the best of friends, which bothered Katy to no end. The details in this book drew me in and kept me reading and you will need Klenex. I will stop here to avoid giving any spoilers.

Great story! Katie has always loved music, but is rejected several times by different record labels. Since she can't seem to get a recording contract, she resorts to managing a pop star named Duchess (who is basically a Lady Gaga clone), as a way to afford her Mom's cancer treatments. Chase is a wounded vet, who is hurting not only physically, but emotionally. He despises Duchess and everything she represents and doesn't understand how Katie can stand working for her. Sparks always seem to fly though whenever Chase and Katie are around each other. Can Chase open his heart to love after being hurt so badly? And can Katie finally get up the courage to go after what SHE wants. A wonderful story with great dialogue!!

Duchess is a darling story with fun, but complex, characters. I found this book to be a delightful read and a story I could really get immersed in. I love the quandary Kate finds herself in, of her own making, and the way she learns to open up and accept help from those around her to get out of it. The love of family and friends shines through as well as a sense that we need to learn to trust and believe in ourselves as much as those around us do. Another pleasure with this book was how well edited it is – there was no instance when I was pulled away from a terrific story because of poor editing. I can’t wait to read more from Nikki Wilson.

What a fun book! This clean romance was perfect for some lazy summer reading. I loved the humor and the unique plot that didn't follow the usual formula for romantic comedies. I was always surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading whatever else the author publishes in the future
