The Starship Renegades have one mission: save the civilians.
Standing in their way: The Imperium.
The Imperium killed Kari’s sister. She was just a child at the time. But now, Kari won’t let them hurt anyone else. She will risk everything to help the Renegades and save the civilians.
Because if the Renegades fail, hundreds will die.
Grab a plasma pistol and strap in for this space adventure.
Saffron Bryant is an Australian author with a passion for fantasy and science fiction. She began writing at a very early age and hasn’t stopped since.
She has a degree in Biomedical Science (with honours) and recently completed a PhD in chemistry at the University of Sydney.
Unfortunately her cupboard didn’t open onto Narnia, she didn’t get a letter from Hogwarts, and a strange man in a blue box hasn’t shown up… (here’s hoping for an old Wizard on my 50th!!)
So she spends her time writing stories and releasing them to the world.
~Happy Reading!~
Saffron is best known for her science-fiction action adventure The Nova Chronicles, which she describes as "Tomb Raider in Space".
A prologue to the Starship Renegades series, this short story has Kari and a band of Renegades fighting Imperium soldiers, trying to rescue a group of civilians. Bloody battles ensue with their numbers diminishing until there is just a few left to save the day. Some gruesome accounts of injuries and deaths that I could have done without, but on the whole a good story.
Excellent new entry into Ms. Bryant's world of interstellar adventures, with strong characters full of emotions and flaws and attitudes.
It looks like the Resistance is winning. The Renegades have an even chance at last. Kari and a small band have been sent to this place on a search & rescue mission. . . like so many others.
Why is this one so damned hard? Why is the Imperium throwing everything they have at them? As the body count piles up, and the true nature of the mission unfolds, so much more becomes clear.
And Kari - Kari just burns with revenge. If not for her fellow soldiers saving her ass time and again because her rage keeps her from seeing straight, she'd be long dead. Ryker with his guns and steady calm, like an anchor to keep her from just blasting off.
If you get to the end of this book and aren't ready to pick up the next one because you're screaming WTF?!?!? at it, you haven't been paying attention. Nice hook; very sneaky!
It was ok. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad. A short intro to a larger series but a stand alone short story as well. Full of action and an interesting base premise but nothing stands out to make me want to continue reading. I wouldn’t avoid additional books either.
