As the story opens, Bernie Bridges ( the protagonist ) was introduced. Bernie is a student at Rotten School. He plays football as a quarterback in the team.
He does not like to lose a match and thinks he is the best. Bernie has two friends, Feenman and Crench.
From the first pages the humor of the author ( R.L. Stine ) was pretty good for several reasons. First, Stine can bring something funny from nowhere. For example, this following part of the book, " The quarterback should be brilliant, quick, and good looking right? So they had no choice. It had to be me" - Bernie Bridges. Stine also comes up with funny names for settings. For example, he named the football field R.U. Dumm ( are you dumb ). In conclusion, R.L. Stine is a very funny author.
In continuation of my reading, Bernie and his team tries to get a plan for the team to win. Bernie meets with his friends and tries to change the tactic on the field. Bernie is showing determination at that part of the book. Suddenly, he finds a new tactic, the tactic is called Throw Up Number 6. The plan is to throw the ball to Feenman (which is the number 6 of the team), then Beast blocks every one from coming back to defense, next passes to Bernie who runs to score. This is the result of determination ( the good thing after the working ). This is the plan of Bernie and his friends for the next matches.
The book was given 3 stars for several reasons. First, There is no antagonist. As a result, there is no conflict. Second, there is still no surprise. For example, Bernie and his team still didn't win a match. These are the reasons why 3 stars has been given to the book.
In continuation of the reading, the plan does not work for the first match with it for several reasons. First, the team was too tall and big. Obviously Bernie and his team wouldn't stand the players even with Beast ( the biggest of the team ). Second, Bernie and his team did not have enough pass accuracy and speed. Without that, the team will have more and more difficulties. these are the reasons why the plan did not work.
The author shows more silly stuff in the book for several reasons. First, he wants the reader to have fun when he reads the book. For example, when there is something funny in the book , as a result, the reader laughs and enjoys reading it. Second, authors wants the reader to be enthusiastic for reading the book until the very end. For example, in the fifth grade, the class was reading Joey Pigza, and when Mr. Blakely stopped reading, the class was sad because the whole class was exited of what silly thing will happen next. These are the reasons why the author shows more silly stuff.
The days pass and Bernie's football team is still losing all their matches despite the following plans. Bernie got the team some cheerleaders in spite of gaining confidence. The plan failed a lot of times but they are not giving up because Bernie is in love with the leader who is called April-May June. The team tries to have ball possession as much as possible to make the other team suffer. Bernie and his team could not do more than one pass. These are the plans of the football team.
The characters are weird for several reasons. First, they act like if they are born to be losers. For example, they were so happy because they lost 55 to 3. Second, it is not understandable that people who cannot pass a ball are chosen in the team. As written in the first paragraph, the players cannot complete one pass to keep ball possession. These are the reasons why the characters are weird.
In continuation of my reading, a new plan has been introduced. The plan was a weird plan because Bernie is bringing someone he despise. This someone is Jennifer Ecch; Jennifer Ecch is someone who loves Bernie but who is very fat and big. Bernie thinks she can mess the other team up by running straight. After the first game Jennifer played The team has won their first game ever. This was the successful plan.
The book deserves 4 stars for several reasons. First, the team has finally won its first game. Jennifer messed up the other team for them to succeed. Second, the change of idea every time they lose is a great example of determination. For example, Billy trained his dogs to be good hunting dogs in Where The Red Fern Grows. These are the reasons why the book deserves 4 stars.
