This is a Clean Romance/Women's Fiction. I loved the storyline/plot. This book is about so much more then just saving a lighthouse. The two main characters both have stuff in their past that they are trying to overcome. I wish the characters had both been a little more developed, and I wanted more light to more for the characters. I just did not fully connect to the characters. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Heartwarming) or author (Janice Carter) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I was fascinated by the storyline of this book. Both of the main characters have to deal with past tragedies. I like how Grace and Drew deal with their pasts. They are both strong, caring characters. I was invested in their developing relationship the whole time I was reading their story. That is always an important aspect of my ability to like a romance book. This was a very enjoyable read.

Saving The Slow Plot!

I was excited to read His Saving Grace because I hadn't read a book by the authoress Janice Carter in a while. However, this book was painfully slow and left me unrequited.

Book Store Owner, Grace Winters, has a lot of demons. She has returned to the small town of Lighthouse Cove, Maine to deal with some of her past issues. Reintegrating with family, getting used to the slow pace, and meeting with people has taken its toll. Steadily, she is finding her purpose and her way. That is why setting up a memorial at the town's historical lighthouse is now priority. But will outsiders to Lighthouse Cove and especially one Coast Guard officer understand her motives? And maybe even her?

Lighthouse Maintenance Coast Guard Officer Drew Spencer has shifted to Portland and has accepted a desk job, after a tragedy that has left him shaken. As he continues his healing process, he is finally enjoying his research into lighthouses and making decisions about them. His last visit should be an easy decision, decommissioning and demolition. Nevertheless, one very determined and organized citizen may have other plans that will not only deter Drew but make him consider aspects of the small town, himself, and even a future with love.

The concept was definitely unique. The descriptions and knowledge base, I definitely admired. However, the slowness of the story stopped my reading many times. Until I got to the middle of the book, then only my interest picked up. I was then invested, but the end chapters left the story unfinished. There seems to a be a lot of loose ends. Or maybe they are covered in other subsequent Harlequin Heartwarming Series books. But I will not participate in reading those tales. Also, the story was mostly told from Drew's point of view, which was lovely. As a protagonist, his principles and ethics did shine through. The same could not be said about Grace. At times, she appeared quite stilted, confused, and unsure.

If you are looking for a clean romance with a seaside feel of small towns along with some good supporting characters and a different plot, you may like this one.

5 Stars. This heartwarming romance has a beautiful, picturesque setting. The story line is well crafted around a disaster from the past. But the plot grows the story to the future and into the lives of the people who suffered back then and how they are coping with the loss of a family member. Grace and Drew have a lot standing between them and not just a lighthouse, but secrets they both hold close. Their relationship is tender and sweet, making you root for their happy ending. There’s an equally good cast. Henry Jenkins was my favourite secondary character. But there’s more to come in Lighthouse Cove. Grace’s brother has a story to tell, and a mysterious person is leaving flowers at the lighthouse as a memorial. I am looking forward to a return trip to Lighthouse Cove. Reviewed for Still Moments Magazine.

The mystery surrounding her cousin's death--and the secrets she's been carrying around for too many years--presents Grace Winters with a major problem when she wants to save the lighthouse in her town as a memorial to him, but the Coast Guard officer who arrives to check on the lighthouse is certain it should be torn down.

This places Grace and Drew in direct conflict with each other, even as each keeps close past experiences that also get in their way.

How they can resolve what looks like an intractable problem only comes to light when Grace experiences something of what she now knows killed her cousin by drowning. Would she also have lost her life had Drew not been with her that night? And, can he convince his boss that preserving the lighthouse is the thing to do in little Lighthouse Cove, ME?

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review.
What I liked about this romance between Grace and Drew was that the back story and the side plots are just as important as the romance itself. I found myself getting quite invested in the storyline regarding the death of Grace’s cousin and the consequences that are still playing out in the current time line of the story.
I definitely enjoyed the setting which revolves around a lighthouse and I thought the characters were well written and endearing.
I think the Heartwarming line is one of my favourites from Harlequin and I often reach for one when I need a quick and comforting read.
