Mixtape: How To Stop Listening To The Recordings Of Your Past

Rate this book
When we hear a lie from someone we trust, their words became our recordings of truth. They become the music we dance to – or don't dance to. Someone has told you you’re not good enough, or maybe they’ve said you’re too much. They’ve said you’re too fat or too thin, too manly or too girly. Too short or too tall. Too whatever-else. You may have had a recording trapped in your head. You’ve tried to change the song, but no matter what you do, somehow that loop is stuck on repeat.I get it. I get you. Right now, you’re holding my story, my recording, my mixtape. My mission, sweet friend, is to help you silence that recording you’ve had playing on repeat. With some careful crafting, choosing, and recording, we get to change the mixtape. And starting here, I’m going to take you through my journey of remixing those ugly recordings into words and songs of truth, growth, and bad-assery. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. And I suspect you’re here because you’re ready for change. It’s time to choose carefully the truths you hear.Let’s walk together through our recordings to find the courage and the strength that has been in you all along.I’ll honor your story as I share mine, and I’ll help you become the DJ of your own life. It’s time to change the music. Let’s create your own mixtape.

This book is beautiful. Kate talks about the pain that causes us to have negative thoughts and "recordings". She talks about how she was able to change her recordings into positive tracks that have turned her into a gladiator. She is open, honest, humble, funny, smart, and so encouraging. I can't wait for more people to read this. I genuinely think this book will help everyone who reads it. She has an uplifting playlist at the end of the book that is the ultimate mixtape for a gladiator. I immediately went to spotify to put the songs together. I wish she had made a similar list of movies and tv shows.

Let me start by asking myself, am I biased? Probably. I love Kate and have known Kate for years now. Is her story also worth reading and learning from? Absolutely! Every time she speaks to a crowd, I feel like she’s just talking to me and telling my heart something it didn’t know it needed. Her book is the same way. You’ll become best friends with her while she recounts good and bad times and feel courage when she decides to be that Gladiator. Read it, just read it.

This book is like sitting down at Starbucks with a good friend and getting an amazing pep talk. I would know because I’ve sat down with Kate at a Starbucks and she gives amazing pep talks. I’m super biased, obviously, but this book is great. It’s easy to read for all ages and I’d definitely recommend it to teenagers or college students who might not have a Kate in their lives to sit down with and give them stellar advice. I’m so glad Kate was brave enough to share her story with us.

It's not the usual type of book I read, but I think that it helped me. I know a lot more about myself and Kate Garnes definitely has a way of relating to people. I would 100% recommend!
