A great romantic comedy. It kept me engaged enough that I read it in one go. There are lots of misunderstandings, but it added to the humor in this case, instead of making the story drag on. The MC is not very self-aware but she isn't s*upid, just seems like she doesn't value herself enough. The ML is not very good at expressing his feelings, which also feeds into the misunderstandings. All of which are things they work through and eventually figure out. There is a bit of a twist towards the end which makes this novel a bit more unique in the rebirth genre. I see some people commenting on her work ethic and how she treats the ML's dreams, but it is made clear from the beginning that she was in it for the money, however as her character develops we can see how her focus changes and she starts doing things that are selfless. If you read until the end you see how much she changes and her focus shifts, which is what character development is about. Likewise the ML changes his black and white view of justice and decides he will do better as a lawyer than a judge. The ML gets better at expressing his feelings and seeing justice as more than black and white, while the MC becomes more self aware of her worth and shifts her world view to be about more than just money. It is a simple rom-com, but a well made one that will keep you engaged and entertained. You cheer for this relationship to happen and will be satisfied with the ending.
Finally, it's over after almost a year following the translation team. It felt sad letting my baby go but, life must goes on.
The plot was also simple. Qian Wei's only regret in life was helping her twin brother to steal her boss's supposed girlfriend. And the result was that both of them, at the age of 28, were still single. She vowed to change that fate if she was given a second chance. Lo and behold, she return to the the past, to their 19 years old self. This time, whatever it take, the boss must stay with the girl.
There were boring parts which I skimmed. But, overall the story was warm and fluffy.
This was so cute, sooooo cute. Not perfect but it gave me such warm fuzzies. Sometimes the female lead is oblivious to. the. extreme. But the relationship itself is adorable.
The main character, Qian Wei, dies when she falls into a hole and wakes up in her 19 year old body, when she was still a law school student. She uses this opportunity to correct her biggest mistake in her previous life, which was to help her brother win over the law school flower Mo Zixin. Why was that a mistake? Because her brother's love rival was the school prince, Lu Xun, who would end up becoming Qian Wei's boss in the future. In order to ingratiate herself with her future boss (and most importantly, not get on his wrong side), Qian Wei does everything she can to suck up to Lu Xun while creating plenty of chances for him to make his move on Mo Zixin. However, it doesn't seem like he's interested in her at all??
**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**
The story itself was mildly amusing but nothing crazy. It drove me crazy how completely oblivious Qian Wei was to Lu Xun's feelings for her for the longest time, to the point where Lu Xun had to take some drastic steps so he could spend time with her. Case in point, he actually pretended to like Mo Zixin and tricked Qian Wei into going on a movie date with him by wanting to make it a group date. Or when he tricked her into accepting jewelry by saying he tried to give it to MZX first and she didn't want it because it was too expensive. Or when he pretended to be super clumsy at dancing so Qian Wei would dance with him. And through it all, she still didn't get it... If I were Lu Xun, I would've given up ages ago.
Despite Qian Wei's obtuseness, I did like her character as she was nothing if not entertaining. There were plenty of situations where she had to thicken her face and say things shamelessly, especially when she was caught complaining about Lu Xun behind his back and then had to try to dig herself out of the hole she dug. Lu Xun's character was a bit more problematic. He was a little too perfect for my tastes. I don't mind cold MLs, but once they got together all the sappy words coming out of his mouth didn't fit in with his cold character at all. I would've preferred it if he had been a bit more snarky or sarcastic with her instead of this mushy dude.
My biggest problem with the story was probably the end, where Qian Wei wakes up from her coma in her "normal" life and everything that happened in the middle was explained away as a side effect of experimental drugs. That explanation kind of took away from the story.
A very different and refreshing take on the isekai genre for me. And to describe it in a few words overall would be that "It's sweet", it doesn't have that annoying villain trope and overall was just a good story. Nothing that mainstream as hidden identities but the story is vasically how two misunderstood people misunderstood each other.
Not gonna give spoiler as this for me is one of my favorites.
I am glad to be done with this book. Sadly, it wasn't even 1% as funny as I hoped, instead the amount of misunderstandings and tangled situations quickly turned painful. No wonder they made cdrama out of it... It sure has some soap opera worthy quality (derogatory)
The only good thing about this book is the ML, Lu Xun. He was quite cute and just the perfect amount of sneaky.
The heroine however was tstl. The further into the story, the more oblivious she got...
It is a romance between the bubbly girl and the cold handsome top law student. It has all the textbook characters of loyal friends, the white lotus and the numerous college girls that chase after the unattainable handsome student. The storyline has a twist in the typical transmigration storyline. Mostly, it’s the standard light hearted storyline. The emphasis on a sweet romance between the lead couple with a very wholesome closure in the ending.
Qian Wei is annoyingly adorable and Lu Xun is a good male lead, I had much fun with those two! And I loved the explanation the author gave us when Qian Wei "returned". Seriously, I was not expecting and I liked it very very much!
I mist also say I was not expecting to like this novel so much???
Because, unfortunately, most of the Chinese novels I've read are quite problematic and I usually just give them up in the middle... But no such thing happened with this novel!!!!!!!!!! Tbh, the only problematic thing I remember reading was related to fat-shaming but other than that, I can't recall any other problematic stuff???!!!!!!
i did take issue with a few parts that felt fatphobic, but aside from that, this was indeed a sweet and funny story. the misunderstandings almost felt endless at times, but a lot of it was humorous. these two were seriously adorable !!! 😭
lu xun refusing to be straightforward about his crush and qian wei just not picking anything. i give this three-star because of how sugary sweet lu xun and qian wei's interactions are.
