Earthworm Jim: Launch the Cow!

Rate this book
EARTHWORM JIM is about the world's most unlikely hero... a worm! The evil Queen of Insectica has a super-suit invented that is capable of altering the universe when it is stolen by her ugly sister, Princess What's-Her-Name...

My name is Doug TenNapel and I created Earthworm Jim 26 years ago. Though "EWJ" appeared in award winning video games, an animated series and a toy line, his epic story has yet to be told! We all know the character, but none of us know the story. This deficit in the universe ends NOW!

(P.S. Do sign up for the Earthworm Jim Comic mailing list! http://earthwormjimcomic.com/ )

For the first time in 27 years I am crafting an epic graphic novel worthy of the true fans of Earthworm Jim in a multi-book set! Let's launch the cow!

A nice trip down memory lane. Story wasn't anything spectacular, but it did a good job at rebooting a franchise that's been sitting unused for twenty years. The jokes and characters are immature and corny, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Looking forward to what Doug does in the next volume.

Super cute! And actually really, really funny too! The humor and character design is absolutely great in here. I don't think I've ever laughed more while reading a Doug TenNapel book.

This was very simplified in the theme, plot, character development, and even character names, but this was based off of a 90's video game that was slapped together for comedy and fun. Yes, this delves a little deeper into forming reasons and relationships to explain some of the adorable nonsense, but not nearly as deep as most of TenNapel’s other works (Nnewts, Cardboard, and Flink being among my favorites).

But I'm fine with that. This was hilarious and beautiful to look at and well worth the pledge at the Kickstarter. Recommend if you're in the mood for a laugh.

Outstanding Campaign with Overachieved Fulfillment and a Very Funny Goofy Book
Review of the Indiegogo crowdfunded edition (Dec. 2019)

Part of the experience with crowd-funded books is that you are rating the fulfillment itself. That is whether the independent creator produced a professional product and delivered it in a proper and safely packaged manner within the promised delivery time-frame. By all of those measures, Doug TenNapel delivered a 5-star product which actually surpassed all expectations while also setting a record for the single largest funded graphic novel campaign ever on Indiegogo with a final total of $815,676 U.S.

Very well-written book that finally gives us the untold origins of the suit, and how Earthworm Jim came to become the hero we know and love. The illustrations in this book and detailed and full of life. The characters are vivid and imaginative as you remember from the classic Video Games and Cartoon series. The adventure is well paced, and the comedy is whimsical and hilarious while being well-grounded. This is an excellent comic to be enjoyed by fans of Earthworm Jim, and good adventures alike.

Pretty cute. I love the addition of magical fairy to Jims origin. Princess what's her name was a great character especially. The art was fun, especially the colors. The book itself is ridiculously beautiful and quality. I'm so glad he went to heck. And befriended sandworms! Yes indeed, this was very fun and I look forward to more.

Such a beautifully made book, hardcover with gilded pages. The interior art does not disappoint either. The origin story of the beloved video game character is chronicled in this excellent volume. Its full of humor, action, and authentic emotional connections between the characters. This is my first time consuming Mr. TenNapel's work and I am impressed. I cannot wait for Earthworm Jim 2!

I never knew Doug's story until this year, when I heard him at a conference. I also had no idea I was playing the video game of a reformed Christian in elementary school.

Witty, funny, over the top; he doubles down on his humor at just the right moments. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that he put in some very well done parabolic themes. I can't wait to read the next one!

Very fun, and incredibly beautiful art. Doug really knocked this one outta the park. Appropriate for all ages, so if you've got a young one, this is a great early comic to read!

It's silly! It's ridiculous! It's very immature! It was just what I needed during this stupid pandemic thing. I laughed out loud at times. A great book. I can't wait for EWJ2 to come out!

So excited to get this one in not too long ago. Loved the art. The energy felt like the old, nostalgic game. And I could read dialogue in the cartoon voice actors voices haha

The art is genuinely excellent. The writing is generally fine. I'm just glad I've never financially supported the guy.

This is as fun and wacky as you'd expect from anything involving Earthworm Jim. The story is mostly just nonstop wild action (I could have used a couple pages of rest for the pacing), but it has some unexpected moments, a handful of good jokes, and a pretty interesting ending. The art is fun and dynamic, although a bit sloppy-looking at times (which is fairly typical of TenNapel's style), and the colors are great. The comic content is probably only about 3 stars-worth, but the book itself is a piece of art; a beautiful oversized hardcover with spot-gloss and gilded pages. Lots of crowdfunded comics do the bare minimum, but this product went far beyond my expectations.
