Cat Larson never has to look further than her own backyard for inspiration - her small eccentric Midwestern town with its own cast of colorful characters provides plenty of fuel for her imagination.
She's surrounded by acres of untamed forest and lakes with no shortage of peculiar creatures to write about. While sipping her first of many cups of coffee for the day and popping handfuls of wild blueberries, Cat is greeted by the extended family of frogs who share her land.
However, unlike her stories, none of these frogs were once human (that she's aware of).
This is a free novella e-book from Amazon and book one in the series. One one is always free or almost.
Samantha's boyfriend has asked her to marry him. She is so happy which ends with a phone ☎ call from her sister. She travels from Chicago to Bigfoot Bay in Wisconsin. Her sister is missing, her boyfriend is a frog, and there is a murder.
I would recommend this novella and author to 👍 readers of romantic witchcraft mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒😀😡💘🏡
This was a fun book about Eve who was a witch but did want to be and just live a normal human life. She gets a frantic call from her sister who lives as a witch and Eve makes the two hour drive to her sister's place only to find what she was expecting was nothing of the kind. The rest of the book almost seems like a comedy of errors. I look forward to reading the next book whetted my appetite for more.
Eve, Sammi, whatever she ends up being called, gets a frantic call from her sister to get over right away. In the background she hears her fiancé, Fernando, and things are not sounding good at all. After driving like a mad woman, back to Bigfoot Bay, a place she left 13 years earlier and swore she’d never return to, she can’t find her sister and Fernando, well, you’ll have to read the story. I loved the magic that’s happening and how this town is just so unique. The way the town and Sammi’s old friends welcomed her back was really nice. There were some great laugh out loud parts and her phone was a trip. Again, read the book!

Witch on Ice#1 - This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed the book. I like the dry sense of humor used throughout the pages. While I don't care about witches who deny their birthright, I like the interesting storylines although the book started a bit slow.
The good characters are well thought out with good personalities. I did not care for the ending since it left unanswered questions but this is a series. I had fun with the phone, which I consider an interesting character on its own.
I love this author and her sense of humor! So much fun in this book that I cackled (I hope I did not really cackle) throughout the book. I am looking forward to reading more about Samm/Eve and finding out what will happen next.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It is a fun, light read with some actual laugh out loud moments. Clever plot with just a bit of magic and interesting characters. I will definitely be reading book two.
This was the first book by this author and I enjoyed it. The characters are good and the story was interesting with humor thrown in. I look forward for more from this author and series.
Samm gets a mysterious phone call from her sister who she hasnt spoken to much in the last 13 years, stranger still, her fiance is talking in the background and Samm has no idea why he would be with her sister.. Samm chooses to not be involved with her witch abilities, she wants to live a normal life, meanwhile her sister and mom embrace their witchy abilities. Samm takes off to her hometown a couple of hours away to find out whats going on with her sister and her fiance. Its slow going since a snowstorm came up but once she arrives her sister is gone and so is her fiance until she finds a frog and thinks the worst has happened, her sister may have turned her fiance into a frog... The hunt is on looking for her sister but dead bodies are all she finds. Just what she wanted, to try and solve these mysteries and hopefully find her sister along the way so she can get her fiance back. I really enjoyed this story, and would continue on in the series to see what other troubles Samm finds herself in.
My very first impression, with the start, was that some things were a bit weird and hard to understand at first. Like with her being called Eve no Samm no Eve, that was confusing at first. Some things could be explained better, because sometimes I didn’t immediately know what was going on. But then it quickly got better. I did feel she could be a bit nicer at times, she could be somewhat rude and acted a bit too harshly at times. And maybe she didn’t need to be quite so negative about being a witch. But the storytelling is there, the plot was really good. I really liked it. I was slightly disappointed at the end, although I had already suspected it, that one thing hasn’t been solved and will continue to be the overarching plotline for the whole series. So that slight disappointment soon turned to excitement to read more in this series!
I rated this, but didn't get the time to write a detailed review. I had notes ready - I just had to compile them. Now is the best time!
So! I totally LOVED THIS BOOK!! Kudos to Cat Larson for publishing this and making it available for people like me! I spent a few weeks reading heavy books continuously, so I wanted to read one that was more relaxing to the mind. This was just the one for me - right book at the right time!
Now, let me explain in detail what I liked (which were a LOT) and what I didn't like so much.
The narration was very humorous and enjoyable! The narrator seems to be ecstatic in both directions, giving the beginning a comical twist! I liked her sense of humour and sarcasm - they kept me giggling every single time!
In the beginning, it felt like a fairy tale with an adult twist. Which is really awesome! You don't see stories like this - they're always about teens!
The show-don't-tell aspect has been done quite well! I liked how the descriptions were given at just the right amount. Even the narrator fit in right well for this.
The magic with the phone kept killing me each time... until I came to the end of the story. I have my suspicions about it and I want to read more to find out! Also, about Fernando - his story didn't even begin in this book and that was hilarious!
There were, however, a few small mistakes, but nothing that hindered the flow of my reading. And I mean this as a compliment!
The pacing seemed rather slow in the first few chapters, but it's definitely required to set the scene. Nothing in the book has been overdone, which is an aspect I loved a lot.
The mystery starts right from the beginning, when Eve tells us how she and Fernando got engaged - the fact that they never spent so much time dating and that they had been together only six months. That rose my suspicions about Fernando and I wanted to know what kind of a person he was. Especially after what his brother said...
Generally, what I've observed with first person narratives was crossing into the danger of over-description. Sure, heavy narration is required, but it has a limit. That hadn't been crossed in this book. There's still so much room left for imagination! Well done, Cat Larson!
And oh - what incredible cliffhangers!! I'm more than invested to buy the remaining books in the series and read them all!
When I was reading this book, I felt a little like I was reading an Agatha Christie... but unlike hers, "Witch on Ice" was simpler - the plot was not very complex, it was light and fun to read. It gave me all the feels of a mystery novel and that is another aspect I loved a lot!
Hence, this book deserves all five of the stars I gave it!
Overall, "Witch on Ice" is a book for those readers who are fans of mysteries and thrillers with a slice of magic. I would definitely recommend this! I liked way more things about this books than I disliked any... really, the only issue I found was with the minor grammar errors I mentioned earlier. That's it. I absolutely loved the cover. Though Eve didn't really fly on a broomstick, it does link to the book a lot.
I started reading this book thinking that here was a witchy cozy mystery that I was going to enjoy, but alas, it was never to be. The main character appears to be clueless about everything, the nature of Bigfoot Bay and of the other characters in the story. What more clues does she need? The second story re Misty appeared to be just added to provide some degree of reader satisfaction, it did not provide any for me. Too few answers provided leaving me disappointed.
This is a fun first book of a new cozy mystery series for me. The characters so far have been fun, but I’m looking forward to learning more info about them in future books. There were some confusing parts of this book however. And I certainly didn’t foresee the way the “mystery” was resolved. But what in the world is happening with Violet? The ending definitely makes you want to continue the series.
I was a bit disappointed in this book. I usually love books with a supernatural flare to them but this was a bit flimsy in the character development and the plot was a bit thin and disjointed as well. I was able to finish it but there was only a small bit of closure and I am not sure I want to go on to book 2 to see if it gets any better. Will wait and see! :)
What a fun read a magical mystery full of intrigue ,mayhem and family drama. The array of characters are vibrant, colorful and quite quirky. You will find yourself constantly confused and full of laughter. Acquire " Witch on Ice " today so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. 🙂 Kat
Meh Didn't like the main character much. She's over the top clueless. The murder basically solved its self while the MC walked around drinking coffee and getting so many things wrong. Ended without resolving the main issue of the book...where is the sister and is the Frog her or the fiance and who did it all? I can live without knowing if it means I have to read more books in this series.
I DO NOT LIKE CLIFF HANGER BOOKS 📚! LIKE THIS BOOK!
I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! I WAS DISAPPOINTED 😞, GREATLY BY REACHING THE END OF ITS STORYLINE. IT DID NOT HAVE AN ENDING, THIS AUTHOR'S BOOK WAS LEFT WITH A NEED TO BUY ANOTHER BOOK😣 FOR FINDING HOW IT ENDS!🤐😐
Samm and her sister haven't gotten along for years so when she hears her boyfriends voice in the background during a call to her Samm tears off to her sister's place. But all she finds is a frog. Did her sister turn him into a frog? Samm assumes so.
It's a good idea to have hook to entice your readers to buy more, but a fishing hook is sufficient not a crane hook. Half a story if you're not going to buy the next one don't both.
To me this was a strange story. A little hard to follow with all sorts of charters jumping in and out. It never rounded off into a conclusion so I guess one has to read book 2. I have read better, maybe you will like it.
Samm is a ditz. And she can't stop and listen. Sounds like the town may be magical and she won't talk to family to see what is going on. Only finished book to see if Samm would wise up.
Loved the story but so wanted to know where the sister went that it spoilt it a bit. Another one i wouldn't mind reading th Dr next book too. And the frog is great!
This was a twisty paranormal cozy that kept me guessing. The main mystery is resolved so there are no cliffhangers with that but there is an overall arc that I am looking forward to seeing resolved in future books in the series. This is book one of a series but can be read as a standalone.
Good read. I would give this book two thumbs up. Excitement of wanting to know more about the story plot in this book is given in each turned page. Recommend this book to all ages.
Pacing is inconsistent. First things first: this ends in a BIG CLIFFHANGER that is most disappointing. I liked a lot of the book, but i did not appreciate the pacing or the cliffhanger. Please try again and resolve everything before the next book in the series starts
The first few chapters weren't bad but didn't pull me into the story. Once the murder happened, the action picked up quickly. The culprit came out of the blue.
