This is a slow burn holiday romance about two broken people with one goal—to survive.

Yoshiro escaped a career of crime with the mafia, after they killed his family. For five years, he’s dropped out of life. All he wants this Christmas is to be left alone. Then, Ebony and her kids accidentally crash onto his property during a snowstorm. For three years, they’ve been running from her husband—who’s been more monster than man.

The storm picks up. They are forced to remain with Yoshiro until it dies down. And the threat of Ebony’s monster remains, lurking within the shadows and threatening her safety. But Yoshiro knows all about death and blood. Her monster doesn’t scare him. What has him terrified is that heartwarming feeling sparking between them. The more time Yoshiro spends with Ebony, the more she becomes a Christmas present that he’s dying to open. Too bad, she’s promised herself that she will never let another man in her or her children’s life again.

Yet, sometimes the best Christmas presents come from a bullet. Every so often a good Christmas miracle is a cut-up body to end a nightmare. And even better, at just the right moment two lonely people can find light in their darkened souls and open their hearts to a new romance.

REDEMPTION is a standalone AmBw romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. This book also contains violence, strong language, naughty illustrations, and graphic sexual scenes.

Whew

They chopped his a** up 😂. Listen this was by far my favorite read by Kenya. Ebony showed resiliency at every turn. Although yo yo wanted to be a hero they did things as a team. The way it should be.

More violent than I was expecting but also sweeter and more romantic than I was thinking I'd get.

These two were a beautiful slow burn together. I loved the audio and if you read the KU version, there are some sexy illustrations sprinked throughout. 😏

This is my first read by Miss Wright. I do not know what to expect from it but the trope of black woman and asian man intrigue me.

The romance is good. I like the flirty part of Yoshiro. He is fine!! He is like modern day robin hood type of assasin. His flirting got me smile.

What I do not like is what Yoshiro and Ebony done to Wyatt at the end. It feels like glorified murder which is not cool. The writing is ok. Enough for me to keep listening until the end.

Overall I enjoy this book OK

This is a DNF without prejudice. I just don't like stories with a lot of kids in it. I was hoping my stan-ship of the author in general could make me overlook the worry the blurb gave me. This is purely a "me" issue. Outside of the that, the story was going well.

This was the first book I came across from this author and I was excited to get into some romance by them. I've heard other books by them were great so I went in super hyped.

Prior to getting the book, I did know that it was about a woman on the run from her abusive husband with her kids but I was not prepared at all for there to be sexual assault and children getting punched within the first few pages. Right off the bat, I was very wary and kinda wished that there were trigger warnings in place for other readers that have experienced DV. Going forward I was just ready to meet the other main character, Yoshiro, and see how they come together.

When I tell you, I was so put off with the chapter heading, "Ching Chong" I-.

I just had to pause for a second before reading ahead because I just didn't want to jump to any conclusions. It didn't get any better. We meet Yoshiro in a strip club where we learn his tragic background through his internal monologues and we do see him getting called racial slurs by idiots trying to enter the club, hence the chapter heading. This whole scene was written to make Yoshiro seem badass and while I applaud him for beating up racist idiots, I cringed throughout that whole scene.

Overall, I couldn't finish the book because when I finally got to where the characters finally do meet, there are hints of instant attraction that I couldn't get past because we were just reading about her trauma the chapter before and her worrying about the safety of her kids. Overall, I really wanted to like this one but I think this one wasn't for me.

Not bad. Lost Potential.

Rating: 2 1/2 stars

I feel sad because Kenya Wright wrote an amazing book--No Ordinary Love: An Interracial Erotic Romance --and now, well this.

This book had so many typos and grammatical errors that I was floored. Sure, there is gorgeous artwork inside but it's overshadowed by the fact this book desperately needs to be edited. I mean the word bastard was literally spelled "basterd" throughout the entire novel. And that was just ONE typo. I gave the book 2 1/2 stars because so much effort was put into the artwork. The cover and the graphics inside are beautiful. So why not put as much effort into editing??

Otherwise, the MCs, Yoshiro and Ebony, and supporting characters were all likable. The kids and dogs are plot moppets. There were some seriously dark moments. This book has graphic sex and violence. It is MA+ So if you are under the age of 18 or offended by gore and hardcore sexual descriptions, skip over the scenes or just skip this book.

If I'd purchased this book, I would have been quite disappointed. A book with this much potential deserves better. I hope the author revises and re-releases it.

Ooh baby baby!

4.5 Stars for this ambw suspense second chance romance novel. Yoshiro the hero is soooo BOSS and compassionate at the same time——->Total package from my perspective. But let’s not forget our kick ass heroine Ebony who took care of business and her kids! Pick up your copy today! KW never disappoints!

The characters love scenes felt very rushed. For a woman fleeing an abusive husband that chased her and her kids for YEARS, Ebony certainly in easily with Yo-Yo which was unrealistic to me. Moving past that though, I did enjoy this book. It had a lot of errors that could have been fixed with editing, but it was not enough to make me not invested in the story.

I did like that the kids were actually involved in the story and didn't feel like throwaway characters, as many novels seemed to do. I was also appreciative of the fact that the kids were not dumbed down and actually spoke the way kids do.

The added graphics were so good. A great touch to the novel to give the readers something to feed their eyes upon while reading.

I will say, that scene with her ex-husband felt very out of place because we got nothing to prep us that it would become that kind of book. Although it is not out of place for a novel from Miss Wright. If you've read her Valentine series, you would know what I mean. However, that series prepped and we knew what kind of book we were reading, 'Redemption' did not. It also felt so wrong to make the aftermath the time that they get together. It all just seemed too wrapped up in a neat bow. Doing something like that, especially the first time for Ebony, takes a toll on you-mentally.

Besides those qualms, I enjoyed the book and will be reading more works from Kenya.

Romance between an Asian man and a Black woman, I was intrigued. The action did not disappoint. Yoshiro was attracted to Ebony instantly. Ebony not so much. She was on the run with her three kids and crashed on to Yoshiro's property.

I liked how Ebony and Yoshiro was what the other needed and didn't know it. The romance was slightly slow burn but when it heated it up it was scorching hot. The story dragged on too long. It could have ended after Ebony's crisis was over. I am interested enough to continue reading more from this author.

Great story

I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It was sad what Ebony's mother did because it could have ended badly for her daughter and her grandkids. The humor in this book was not too much and I enjoyed reading about the kids and how they worked together with their mother. Interesting story and Yoshiro and Kevin were amazing. The husband did need help but I think he was a bit obsessed with Ebony.

Started off great but I was disappointed with the how it went. It was a big draggy and the ending was horrendous. First off nothing ever justifies premeditated killing. I have also watched too many ID discovery shows to know this never ends well. A couple of years from now either one of the couple or the kids are gonna sell either the hero or the heroine for killing that man in exchange for a deal or to spite the other person after a conflict. Also the damage it will do to them poor kids who had to witness the murder and will 100% most likely not receive a day of therapy for what they witnessed. This was just bad. What kid actually says "oh hey thanks for offing my dad, that was real chivalrous of you" while the other one goes " hey yeah he was a bad bad man" smh. I couldn't even get into the sex scene I had been waiting for, for so long. It felt like I had been dunked in cold water. A total let down. Also Queen? Did that man really call her a Queen? How cringe....

Dark Christmas Romance this had more violence than I typically like in my books. There is an abuse scene on page at the beginning, although it’s not dragged out. I loved watching these two people who had suffered so much find such happiness with each other and the kids. It was a delight. Some super steamy artwork. And I really enjoyed it.

I loved this one! While they caught feelings pretty early on, it still felt like a slow-medium burn, which is what I was in the mood for. There was action, drama suspense, humor. And it was local to my hometown, which I always love.
I listened via audio, and was very pleased with both new-to-me narrators.

The story telling and creativity in this novel was awesome. I loved the romance, mystery ad action. The kids are too funny and smart for their own good and the couple- scarred yet open to love even though they did not know it were wonderful! I love this book!

I like the premise of the story but the execution left a lot to be desired. I am not a fan of using sexual violence for shock value. In the first chapter the author places the MC Ebony in a situation that was so horrendous that it is obvious that it was just a plot device to justify Ebony's actions later in the book.

Yoshiro (I will not refer to him as Yo-Yo because the nickname originated as a racist nickname) is insane and obsessive. He gets an erection from shaking her hand an is absolutely certain that they will end up together. Tragic backstory of his wife and kid dying was completely unnecessary because we are constantly reminded that Yoshiro has more of a sexual and emotional chemistry with Ebony.

The ending is actually really problematic. Heck this entire book is problematic.

If you are looking for some A grade top of the line erotica this ain't it, nor is it a devastatingly compelling romance, and yet I was hooked. This was my first-time reading Miss Wright's work but it won't be the last. I had been in a bit of slump as far as romance books go, doing ALOT of rereading and wanting to find something new but not really settling on anything. The Youtube goddesses recently directed my attention to a channel that's at least for the moment curing my ailment.

Surprisingly this book did the tick typos and all, it was quick, a little angst, dollop of fluff, some heat. I'm a sucker for the MC's becoming a insta family and I'm always good with a little murder in my romance.

Alright, listen. This book was not at all what I expected it to be. Yoshiro and Ebony were like GANG GANG. Just slicing and dicing without hesitation. The kids had their backs, too. I was so pumped while reading this book. It was like John Wick but with romance. I'm definitely going to pick up another book by this author to see if it's as action packed as this one.

Honestly this book was laughably bad. I can see many love it but... it’s objectively poorly written. It’s a draft that the author looked at and said “yeah, fuck it. Print that.” No shade to those who obviously read it and enjoyed it somehow.

If read as a comedy, it’s quite good.
