Barking up the Right Tree

Rate this book
I have the perfect life now. I'm settled in my new home with Bella and Cleo the cat. And to a lesser degree, Olive, the bird. Yes, life is good. Bella and I are having fun baking to raise funds for the new Church roof. Those bowls don't wash themselves you know! However, when we discover the body of Nellie, our adored pet shop owner in our local park, I'm handed my second case as Albertus Eagle, the Detective Beagle on a plate. And this is when I begin to realise that things are not as they seem in our idyllic village. Nellie's death leaves Cleo and I with some questions and together we set off to find their answers. Barking up the Right Tree is the second full length novel in the Cozy Mystery series starring Albertus Eagle, his two sidekicks, Cleo the cat and Bella Schuhmann, the smart human who actually understands him. These wonderful stories have received rave reviews as they are packed with humour and satire as we see the world of murder and intrigue through the eyes of a sparky dog turned amateur sleuth. Don’t miss out on the full series of Cozy Mysteries in the Albertus Eagle Detective Beagle series by Chloe Grace . Life's too short to say no cake

A great read. Nice little plot that had a lot of shady characters but it surprised me which one turned up to be the killer (or are there more than one?). The characters of Albie (with his passion for carrot cake but actually any cake would do), Cleo (with her cool reasoning) and their human (an animal lover with a hankering after the local police officer) are joined by their newest addition (an African Grey) in investigating what appears to be an accidental death.
Their new home only has one drawback, Cleo has to be let in and out. After a forage outside she comes racing back for them. A body! It looks as if the local pet shop owner fell out of a tree in the park and died. But could it have been deliberate. Scams, smuggling, wills and more are woven into a warm read that even with another body doesn't loose it warmth and humour. This comes through due to the dialogue between the animals and their human. (Did I forget to mention that their human can understand them). From motives to relationship advice they are not shy about coming forward. But will it lead them to discover why two women died?

I LOVE this little beagle and his sister kitty Cleo! In this adventure we also get to know a little more about Olive, an African Grey bird that has been in foster care by Bella, Albie, and Cleo.

The author does a superb job of personification. This book also explores the crush between Bella and officer Pip taking it up a notch to a budding relationship.

All this while Bella, and the gang investigate the unexpected death of a neighbor and fellow animal lover. Poor Pip tries hard to get Bella to back off for fear she will be hurt or worse by the murderer or murderers. Leave it to Albie to save the day.

Albie's antics in the cake shop and Cleo's "help" in the bird sanctuary are priceless!

A perfect read to take your mind off your everyday life and insert some humor along with a great mystery story.

I received a free ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion/review.

The author writes what every animal owner is certain sure their pet is thinking. (I howled with laughter at the children’s playground scene.) I love that in this book not only do we have Bella and Albie, but we also get to hear from our favorite tabbycat, Cleo. And she is just as sassy and feisty as I expected her to be. One of the things I’m liking best about this series is that while the stories are sweet, cuddly, and fun, the twisty little mystery they’re built around keeps me guessing all the way to the end. Also, the budding romance between Bella and Pip is just the most precious thing ever. I can’t wait to see what the author brings us next.

Our favorite Beagle detective is back on the case. Along with his human, Bella, and cat, Cleo, Albie is again drawn into a mystery when Cleo finds the local pet store owner lying dead at the base of a tree. Who could have done it and why? Can they help Bella's friend (and possible romantic interest), village officer, Pip, solve the mystery...without getting killed in the process? Read and see for yourself. You'll be thoroughly entertained.

A fun and interesting cozy mystery. I love Albie and the gang. And the English village location seems very charming...although a little dangerous lately. I look forward to reading more in this series.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or remuneration.

Another cute cozy mystery from Grace. My only problem is that she does not give any real clues so that the reader can solve the mystery along with the characters. The final solution is told at the end along with the clues that would have solved it but none of the clues are even hinted at earlier on in the book. I still really like the books and find them a nice distraction and a quick read.
I received an ARC copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

This fun cozy series is told from the dog’s and cat’s point of view! This time they’re on the trail of bird smugglers. The writing is fresh and skillful. Both the two and four legged characters are well drawn and interesting. It was an enjoyable read with a surprising ending. I’m looking forward to future installments. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.

Another cute mystery about Albie and his side kick, Cleo the cat. Along with their caretaker, they work to solve the mystery of the death of a pet shop owner.

The book is narrated Albie. Luckily the animals in this book are able to communicate very well with each other and one particular human.

This book would be fun to read for youngish audiences and adults.

I received an ARC from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. This is the 3rd Albertus Beagle story that I have read and it is just as delightful as the previous two. I love the relationship between Albie, Cleo, and Bella. It is so heart-warming. This is a light, entertaining read that is thoroughly enjoyable.

A delightfully fun book with Albie and Cleo, who help solve crimes including murder. A witty love story between humans and pets and the love story between a police detective and the animal's human Mom

Fun read

Enjoying the series! Looking forward to more Albie stories. Cleo too. Now if only my Benny would speak to me so I can find out why he's mad at Tabby.

In this second Albie and Chloe adventure, the sleuthy pair and their human sidekick discover the body of a local pet shop owner who has fallen out of a tree in the park behind their house. When it becomes clear that foul play is at work, Bella and her four footed friends are immediately on the case in this charming, laugh out loud funny and action packed mystery adventure.
Barking Up the Right Tree is told from the perspective of it's animal protagonists which offers a refreshing change from the abundance of slightly ditzy single female cozy mysteries out there, and I love it. While wading through the grim reality of murder most foul and trying to puzzle out the sometimes incomprehensible behaviors of his human world, Albie makes me smile.
