Going from vivacious society belle to widow wallflower can leave a lady wanting…
Joanna Lockhart is trapped in a mire of grief and boredom. Still recovering from the sudden death of her husband, the beautiful widow is tired of being treated like a fragile porcelain doll. But when a severe illness nearly claims her life, Joanna finds the perfect outlet for her natural vitality—a charity.
Unfortunately, her sudden interest in all things philanthropic is marred by the presence of one Ambrose Creasey. For some unknown reason, this handsome cad has decided to cast aside his reputation as a rake, and take up the mantel of charitable patron.
As the Earl of Newhaven, Ambrose has enjoyed his life of delicious debauchery. But recently the earl has hungered for more noble pursuits. A charity seems to be the perfect outlet for his newfound desire to be more than just a rake. And of course, he doesn’t mind the aid of a beautiful, well-connected woman like Joanna… Especially when he cannot resist riling her a time or two.
After all, she does rise so beautifully to the challenge.
Focusing on their work is harder than either of them thought. There’s no denying the attraction between them, but is Ambrose truly prepared to cast aside his hedonistic history? And even if he does, is Joanna ready for a new love?
Samantha Holt resides in Warwickshire, England, with her twin girls, having followed her soldier husband around the UK for nearly 10 years. Growing up in Hampshire, she was inspired by the authors Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell, both of whom lived and wrote only miles from her home town.
Samantha loves the romance genre and has been devouring romantic literature for as long as she can remember. History is another passion of hers and she loves to combine her love for history and romance into exciting and passionate tales.
A lovely meeting of two people who are just bored. Joanna, a widow was ready to do stop being treated with kid gloves, after her husband had passed away and then she had a serious illness, almost losing her life. What's a lady to do? Charity work. Yes, she was great talking to people and could raise funds, use her organization skills... The Creasey Charity for Children and their new hospital. Maybe that is why she had dreamed of the Earl of Newhaven. "It had been a sign," this was what she should do. Ambrose, Earl of Newhaven had come to the conclusion, his carefree, wait no, somewhat rakish, no make that debauched life was growing old. He wanted to do more. His family's charity was just the thing and the focus of the new hospital was just the thing. Yes, it was fate that brought these two together and was a delightful journey as they tried to find their way to happiness! Loved these two and the secondary characters. This series has been wonderful and I have enjoyed every story! Prepare to be enchanted!!
Joanna is recently widowed and is known as being both accomplished and charming. Ambrose, Earl of Newhaven, is bored of the way he is living his life. Both of them need to find a way to fill their time. This brings them into contact by supporting a hospital charity. Joanna finds that Ambrose is so much more than his reputation would have her belief, he is quite insightful. As they work together they become closer to each other, but is Joanna ready to move on and has she come to terms with her grief. This was an enjoyable read, I liked the banter between Ambrose and his elderly butler, Bram and the friendship between Joanna and her two friends. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a pretty average, kind of bland but palatable romance. Like sniffing coffee to clear your nose in between smelling fragrances. Or a sorbet between dinner courses. A total palate cleanser. There's not much here to get worked up about, either positively or negatively.

This is the third book in the series & can easily be read on its own. A well written book that flows well & drew me in from the start. I love Joanna who had been happily married albeit for a sort time, so refreshing for a widow to actually have loved her husband & be grieving for him. Ambrose is very jaded at the start & needs to find an outlet, where better than the charity that bears his name. I loved how he fell hard & fast for Joanna but she wasn't ready to move on. There’s no denying the attraction between them, which only grows. It was how they both coped with their burgeoning romance that is a delight. I also loved the stalwart Bram whose facial expressions were more than a thousand words My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A lovely HEA. I couldn't figure out why Joanna is thought of as a wallflower, when she had been married and widowed. To me, she just seemed to be a widow. A very enjoyable story. Easy to read. 5☆
I have read a great number of Samantha Holt’s books because she rights in my favorite romance genre, Regency. I have found her books to be of variable quality. I have to say, though, that I thoroughly enjoyed this particular romance. The heroine has been through so much before the book opens. A recent young widow, she is just up from what could have been her deathbed. When she arises, she knows that she wants to do more than simply be a grieving widow. Back in those days, mourning periods were expected to be observed. With her friend, she comes up with a plan to do some charity work, as that would be an acceptable venue for her. The hero was quite her opposite, yet they end up having similar motivations. He is termed both a rake and a rogue—or as the heroine thought of him, “a rake of a rogue”--but he has decided after one more bad night of carousing and drinking, that he should find more fulfilling, meaningful ways of living his life. I loved his first discussion with his butler, Bram. It was pretty darned funny and very revelatory to the reader—as well as the debauched earl.
The hero and the heroine clash at first. She knows his reputation and is not terribly pleased to be working on what ends up to be his family's charity’s new hospital. But in their first meeting, she determines that his rude questions or apparent lack of faith in her will not deter her. As you might imagine from what I've laid out, their relationship has quite an interesting trajectory, but I will let you discover that for yourself. I enjoyed the natural banter between her and her friends and her and the hero. At heart, both of these characters are good people, even if in one that aspect was a little more buried. I like it when both the hero and heroine come across as ultimately decent people. All in all, I found this to be a very enjoyable Regency read.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
The Wallflower brides series. MARRIED TO THE EARL, is book 3.
I have to say, I loved this book. From the first page i wanted to know more. I almost stepped back in time and held Joanna Harts hand. This is an adult regency book.
The characters where really well thought out, and came alive in this story. The book dealt with loss of a loved partner. having to start healing and moving forwards.
A charity beckons, to give our young widow a sense of purpose, whilst protecting her reputation. Enter the Earl Ambrose,, who has not lived the life of a celibacy. It takes some time, and minor mishaps, for these two to decide, they could be made for each other.
Samantha has a lovely touch and way with words.
This is a stand alone regency, I would recommend it to you to read. I have enjoyed all three in this series.

This was a wonderfully written story with characters you will love from the beginning & Samantha Holt pulls you in to their lives & you experience the changes that both must make in order to obtain their HEA.
Mrs. Joanna Lockhart was the bell of the ball in her come out season & was married & settled quickly. But the happiness was not meant to last aas her husband, Noah experienced sudden death & shortly after his death, Joanna became extremely ill. She has been at her parents house being nursed back to health & she is full of grief & bored to tears with nothing to do.
Ambrose Creasey, Earl of Newhaven, is the Ton's definition of a rake & rogue but it is something Ambrose has become a little jaded with all the drinking, partying, womanizing & waking up with such bloody hangovers. He would like to do something with his time that meant a good deed done & was appreciated.
Ambrose had attended social functions in Joanna's general social circle for many years, but they rarely spent time together. Joanna decided to do some fundraising for a hospital that is being built just 10 miles from her home. Ambrose decides to take a "hand ons" position in the charity that was set up by his family several years ago & the newly purchased building that would be a children's hospital in the country to aid the people who do not live in London. This is where they meet to begin working with one another & to begin the change that each one needs to make.
This couple has such a wonderful story & romantic but bumpy journey to their touching love story. I highly recommend this beautifully written story - it keeps you turning pages & leaves you with a smile & a sigh. I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Joanna Lockhart was fortunate to have a good marriage, although it was not destined to be a long one. Not only was she widowed only a short time after her marriage, but she was struck by a serious illness and almost lost her own life. Staying with her parents who are taking care of her through her recovery, she is both grieving loss of her husband and bored without something worthwhile to occupy her time. Limited in the acceptable activities she can be involved with during this period of mourning, she decides that she can do charity work for the Creasey Children’s Charity.
Ambrose Creasey, Earl of Newhaven, is a known rogue who is finally becoming tired of the partying, drinking, and carousing that is just wasting his time. He wants to do something useful and be appreciated, and he looks at the charity that his family started and funds as a possible place to begin.
Ambrose and Joanna join forces in a fundraising effort for the children’s hospital in the country aimed at providing help to people living on the outskirts of London. Ambrose is attracted to her intelligence and charm. Can he convince her that he has given up his former pastimes and is no longer the rake he used to be? Will she see he is sincere and trying to be a better person than his reputation had indicated? Is she ready to move on to a new relationship after so recently losing her beloved husband?
I really enjoyed this story and the characters that were so well portrayed and likable. The interactions among the various characters and their banter with each other gives the reader even more insight into the people they are. It makes everything believable and that much better. Grab your copy and see if there is a future for these two, or if it’s too soon to tell!
MARRIED TO THE EARL is the third book in the Wallflower Brides series.
I have loved all three of the books in this Regency Romance series, but have to admit that I have been looking forward to Joanna’s story. It turns out she was the perfect daughter, the perfect debutante, the perfect wife, but she isn’t doing so well as a widow. She has bottled up her emotions and pushed her purposes towards others. When she pushes herself into charity work, and ends up working with Ambrose, that’s the beginning of her facing her past and being able to face her future…. Sigh!
Ambrose Creasey, Earl of Newhaven, is the very definition of rogue and rake, but he has become disillusioned with his own reputation. Delving into the family’s charity puts him onto the path with the pretty widow. Knowing her makes him realize it is worth making big changes in his life, not just out of a desire for something different, but to be better for her… sigh again!
Their path may be bumpy, but the road to true love usually is. Their story is wonderful and touching. It is beautiful and I loved every moment of reading it.

Samantha Holt has delivered another delightful book. This book can be read in less than a day and it can be read as a stand alone with a happily ever after.
After being widowed shortly after her marriage and then almost dying herself after being extremely ill, Mrs. Joanna Lockhart has decided it is time to start living again. Although she can not partake in society as she wishes since she is still in mourning, she can do other things to occupy her time. One of which is charity work. Her choice of charity to throw herself into ends up being The Creasey Children's Charity.
Ambrose Creasey, The Earl of Newhaven, has become disenchanted with his life as a rake and rogue. He decides that he needs to change his life, and what better way than to spend some time on the charity that his family funds?
As Ambrose and Joanna begin working together to raise funds to build a hospital, he becomes fascinated with her intelligence and wit. Will he be able to convince Joanna that he is more than a rake?
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Joanna is still dealing with the death of her husband. She has just helped her two friends find their HEA, but that is not enough for her. She needs something worthwhile to do and is tired of being treated like porcelain doll. She decides to volunteer with a charity. Even though the Earl of Newhaven's family started and runs the charity, she never imagined that the rake would ever take a part in the day to day operations of it.
Ambrose has decided that he needs more in his life and has given up his former pursuits. He decides that working for his family's charity is the best place to start. He never imagined that he would be able to spend his days with the delectable Joanna. While is started as a physical attraction, the more time he spent with her, the harder he fell.
Is Ambrose really ready to give up his reckless ways and is Joanna ready for a new love?
I loved Joanna and Ambrose's story!! The bantering between these two had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed Ambrose embracing his new life and helping Joanna get past her grief of the loss of her husband. Joanna had been such a rock for her friends in the other two books in the series, that it was nice to see someone take care of her.
I really enjoyed this series and can't wait to see what Holt comes up with next!
This book was, again, a charming read. It was a little better than the two books previous. It felt a little bit more balanced. Then ending didn't feel quite as abrupt. I was a little surprised that there was a sex scene because there wasn't anything as explicit in the two books prior. So if you are looking for 'sweet' romance like the first two, that is a bit of a warning. And that isn't why it was better. I actually just skimmed it. When you hit a certain age, you start to get a little bored by sex scenes interrupting the plot line.
There is a feeling that there is better representation of the social mores of the times compared to a lot of books set in this time period. The characters in this series are not reacting to a lot of the situations in a modern sense and then the author having to find a way to justify it. Like I said, books one and two are 'sweet' while book three has one sex scene. Of course, Joanna is a widow and it seems like the author takes that into account. (I use sweet instead of clean because I don't like to refer to romance novels without sex as clean. That suggest that sex is 'dirty' and bad.)
Will she or won't see allow herself to love again?
Still mourning the death of her husband, Mrs. Joanna Lockhart needs a focus for her energies and a way to avoid her grief. Helping to assist the funding of a local children's hospital seems like a good idea, until …..
Tired of his wasted life, Ambrose Creasey, the Earl of Newhaven decides to apply himself to his family's charity. Becoming involved seems like a good idea until ….
I really liked the way Married to the Earl began, and I enjoyed both the story and the main characters up until chapter seventeen. Not only was the bedroom scene very descriptive, but the story and characters seemed to just go off the rails as the angst level rose. For the last nine chapters, I just pushed through to the quick, but happy ending.
Content 411: There is both secular and religious swearing as well as passionate kissing and a descriptive sexually intimate scene.
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was funny, flirtatious and realistic. The H and h were facing a crossroads in their life. In the countryside the h was avoiding grieving for the loss of her husband. She kept busy instead. To the worry of her mother and her two best friends. She heard of a charity hospital being built in her area and became involved. In London the H tired of roguish raking ways felt a yearning for something meaningful for his life and he knew not what to do about it. He heard about the charity hospital that was to be built in the countryside and decided that would be a good place as any to start his search for his life purpose. When the H and h met, he was fascinated with her. They exchanged witty barbs and resisted any attraction between them. This story deals with real human emotions, real raw feelings that help the h and H at the crossroads in their life decide which direction to take. A fabulous story. When I got to the last page, I was sad because I did not want the story to end. It was that good. I do recommend it.

When charity work for a bored young widow and a rake looking to reform turns into a true love neither were expecting! I have just about everything Samantha Holt has written so when I had the opportunity to review this new book I picked it up immediately. Joanna and Ambrose meet when they both decide to invest time into the same charity, which was established by the great-grandfather of Ambrose. They had moved in the same social circle but really only knew each other by reputation and therefore have some misconceptions to overcome. I really liked the banter between them as well as the not always below the surface attraction! The journey to their HEA was not at all smooth but they did get there and I was delighted to watch it all play out! It was nice to meet up with Chloe and Augusta again from the other Wallflower Brides books and see how they were doing with their own happy-ever-afters!

Joanna has hardly stepped into her happily ever after when her new husband dies. Unable to seem to slip out of grief's grip, she allows her parents to take her back to her home. Months later, stifled by the continual suffocating care of her mother, Joanna volunteers to help at a charity. Ambrose has enjoyed his life as a rake, with many friends to share his easy life, until life stops him in his tracks. He has been allowing himself whatever pleasure might intrigue him, but Joanna, still in mourning, has a way of sharing her vision of the world that opens his eyes to the needs around him. Even though the charity was established by his family years ago and he continues to fund it, he's never felt the need to personally become involved. A lovely tale of two people that need fulfillment and companionship and are blessed enough to find their individual answers in each other! It's truly a wonderful book.
Second chance at love. After losing her husband while still a young woman, Joanna has been in mourning. She is adrift and decides to do charity work to keep busy. She chooses a children’s hospital near her home and wants to raise funds to keep it running. Unfortunately Ambrose, the Earl of Newhaven and a rake and a rogue, has leant his support and donated the building that will become the hospital. And because he has become dissatisfied with his life and has decided to take a more active role in the hospital, she will be working closely with him. He is intrigued with Joanna and she starts to see a different side to him. But not only is she still in mourning but she hasn’t really dealt with the grief and the loss of her husband. Until she does she won’t be ready to move on. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Johanna Lockhart is a young widow who is tired of being coddled and wants an activity acceptable during her mourning period. Ambrose Creasey, Earl of Newhaven, has reached the age of thirty and has decided that it is time to leave his life of debauchery behind. He wants an honorable purpose in his life. Johanna decides to devote her time to raising funds for charity. Fate steps in. The charity she chooses is one established and financed by Ambrose’s family, and which he now heads. These two will work toward the same purpose, to build and operate a new children’s hospital. Will this work give either of them the new life they seek?
Johanna and Ambrose are good for each other. There is great chemistry between them. Ambrose admires Johanna for standing up for herself. She loves that he is supportive and understanding. Married to the Earl is a story of change and moving on. Emotions run hot and the road get a little bumpy, but happily ever after is worth it. This is a quick and engaging story. I enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.
Joanna wanted more out her life that being pitied for being a widow. Her friends encourage her to get involved in a charity and she decides on one that Ambrose, the Earl of Newhaven's family has founded. He is a rake who spends his time drinking and seducing women when he wakes up one day with a hangover deciding that he wants to make a change and find a purpose, particularly getting more involved with his family's charity. Joanna is strong willed and determine to push forth her ideas to make it succeed while fight off her attraction to Ambrose. She makes him want to be a better man even if his useless selfish friends can't see it. This was a sexy funny Regency romance. It is part of a series and I enjoyed catching up with those characters, but it wasn't necessary to read the previous two stories to follow along.
This is an amusing, romantic and sweet story. Ambrose is bold, charming and cocky, and is looking for something he can't explain. Joanna is brave, determined and bored, having a few months of mourning for her husband before she can rejoin life. The end up deciding that volunteering for the charity that is trying to build a hospital is where they ca be most useful. When they first both end up at a meeting for the first time, neither takes the other seriously. But the more time they spend working together, the more fascinated with the other they become, and so eventually they can't fight their attraction anymore. The storyline is really interesting and the characters are very likeable. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
Joanna Lockhart is a young widow who has been very ill but is now sick of being treated like she is a child. She wishes to do something purposeful with her life so decides to start working with a charity.
Ambrose Creasey who is an earl is known as a rake but has recently decides to reform and so wants to take more interest in the family sponsored charity.
This is where Joanna and Ambrose meet. Joanna thinks he will tire soon and again take no interest and return to his previous ways.
As they work together, they get to know each other more. Will she be able to move on after the death of her husband?
This was an easy to read good story. (includes one bedroom scene but the rest is fairly clean)

Samantha Holt has done it again! She has taken a reformed rake and a grieving widow and given us an incredible story. I love this book! Ambrose Creasey, Earl of Newhaven, is a rake but wakes up one day and he is tired of all of the parties and debauchery. He wants to do something to have meaning in his life. Mrs. Joanna Lockhart is grieving the death of her huband Noah and recovering from a sudden illness herself which leaves her bored. Both of them decide they need something to do with their time and find they are on the same children's hospital project. As Ambrose and Joanna get to know each other, they learn more about themselves. I would definitely recommend this book.

The widow and the rake. I love Samantha Holt’s books and this one is a great addition to my collection. Joanna a widow is being treated like a china doll and then when she gets sick things got even worse. Looking for an outlet she turns to charity work. Ambrose is a rake but wants to change so he looks into charity work too. I loved the back and forth between these two characters. This was such a fun book to read it is a bit longer than most books I review but trust me you will love every minute you spend reading Joanna and Ambrose’s story. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Joanna has just recovered from losing her husband Noah and a severe illness and now she wants to help with a charity. She joins known rake Ambrose, Lord Newhaven, with his family children's hospital charity not thinking he would actually want to work along with her. His attraction is one that can not be denied but she knows he is not the settling down kind but what she does not know is he has grown tired of his old lifestyle and wants to become a better person. The more time they spend together the closer they become. Can Ambrose prove to Joanna that he is a changed man and wants to future with her?
This was such an enjoyable read. Joanna and Ambrose are so perfect for each other. After losing her husband and an experiencing an illness that nearly took her life, she is ready to live again. And Ambrose is just the person to help her do that. The chemistry between the two is great and the witty banter between the two was so much fun to read! Regency romance is my favorite genre and this book was really on point! I haven't read the first two in the series, but they are now definitely on my To Read list!
