This Change Management Handbook is the third book I have read by Peter F Gallagher. It is a must have for anyone interested in or working as part of a change initiative. I have found this book vital in managing my change project and carry it everywhere with me. Unlike many books on this subject, which simply deal with the ‘what to do’, the Change Manager’s Handbook deals with the ‘how to’ providing a logical step by step framework with clear explanations and examples that you can actually apply and use. In particular Harley’s Organisational Readiness methodology is invaluable as it prevents the simple tick box approach to completing tasks and ensures everyone is aligned around the expectations focussing on the benefits of implementing the change. In addition the downloadable toolkit is full of useful templates that will help you build, manage and think about how to achieve the desired change. The handbook goes into much more detail than the pocket guide (volume 2) and provides easy step-by-step instructions to complete the assessments and templates. The first section introduces change management and discusses how the fourth industrial revolution is increasing the speed and impact of change on organisations - ‘the change explosion’. It argues that organisations can develop competitive advantage if they develop internal capability, but leaders must be actively involved, as the author puts it: ‘The leadership paradox - delivering normal day-today operations vs change implementation” I bought the kindle version as soon as it was released and ordered the paperback version so I can keep it on my desk for easy access and to enable me to write my own notes in it. I highly recommend all volumes in the Leadership of Change trilogy!
***Change Management Implementation Gold Dust*** As an accredited and practicing change management professional, I found all the the volumes of 'The Leadership of Change' very helpful with many many excellent insights. The change management handbook introduces extremely important concepts that I have never been taught or thought about about. I was highly impressed on the importance of considering organisational change capacity in terms of not only balancing normal day-to-day operations with change, but the insights on what is compulsory change such as GDPR and or optional strategic change that is equally important for the organisations survival. The handbook is packed with over 5o depictions, assessments, change models, templates and tools which have step by step instructions. It builds on the real life fables which lead into the key ten step solutions. Most change management books do not use examples that are 'relatable' to organisational implementation and delivery. This handbook also develops the concepts introduced in the a2B Change Management Pocket Guide. The Leadership of Change Volume 3 -Change Management Handbook provides practical hands leadership of change solutions to implement organisational change written by a high knowledgeable, experienced and unique change management expert. Yes definitely change management gold...
Change Management Handbook: The Leadership of Change Volume 3 Change Management Body of Knowledge (CMBoK) Volume 3 Great collection of change management learning, insight and business education. This author is highly pragmatic and discusses concepts from his global work over the last 30 years working in over 25 countries for some of the worlds biggest and most valuable brands. Try to book a lace on one of his global speaking events Highly recommended Change Management Handbook on how to lead and implement organizational change. I met the author when I attended the Kuwait Leadership Day 11 Feb. 2020 - Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Peter spoke about 10 Change Management Lessons Learned - engaging, energetic and inspiring He also spoke and explained why so many change/IT programme and project implementations do not realise the benefits or achieve a ROI. Implementations tend to overspend on IT software, mainly due to late delivery, bugs, unforeseen complexity and as a result communication, change management and training budgets are usual reduced impacting overall implementation success. Peter talk on the 10 change management lessons learned included: Many IT project implementations do not realise their intended benefits Align the project with strategy and dropping less important projects The importance of sponsorship and what it means to the leadership team Assessing previous change history to avoid past mistakes Developing the new skills and behaviours to achieve change adoption is critical
***Essential Handbook for Change Management Practitioners** A very practical Change Management Handbook is a ‘essential' for anyone implementing organizational change into their organization. It is based on the ten-step a2B Change Management Framework and includes 55 illustrations (a roadmap, assessments, templates, a communication plan and a project change plan), 2 fundamental change models for employee adoption and behavioral change, a comprehensive glossary and many more change concepts. Each of the ten change management framework steps also have introduction case study, based on practical change implementation challenges. The handbook goes into much more detail than Volume 2 the pocket guide and provides easy step-by-step instructions to complete the assessments and templates. The first section introduces change management and discusses how the fourth industrial revolution is increasing the speed and impact of change on organization's - ‘the change explosion’. It argues that organizations should develop internal change management capability to achieve competitive advantage. The author highlights that many organizations face the leadership paradox “change implementation vs. delivering day-today operations.” Leaders need to focus both on the urgent and the important.
Very Impressive High Quality Content Change Management Handbook This handbook is very well structured and easy to follow for any employee involved in organizational change management implementation or a major transformation. It provides over fifty concepts, models, figures, assessments, tools, templates, checklists, and plans, as well as a roadmap and very detailed change management glossary. The assessments also provide valuable input and guidance on whether the team should progress from one critical a2BCMF® step to the next. The ”a2B Change Management Pocket Guide" provides a straight-forward approach to understanding how change affects people and organizations, then offer forms and techniques to mitigate the effects. The guide will help the main project and program team to understand the sponsorship, change resistance and communication of people or employees involved in change. It also stresses the need to align the change to the organization strategy and the importance of previous organizational change history. I have also bought a few copies for the students I mentor as it will also help them understand them greatly with change management concepts when they are writing their thesis!
* Excellent Change Management Handbook for Practical Implementation * This is a very good handbook and reference guide for change management that support practical organisational change management. It introduces change concepts that few experts or organisations realise are real challenges to successful implementation, employee change adoption and ROI. It is packed with fifty figures, templates, a roadmap, both a project change plan and communication plan as well as assessments (change history, sponsor, readiness). Each of the ten main sections introduces a short case study which provide practical insights and help you think about potential change implementation challenges you could encounter! The handbook also contains a comprehensive change management glossary to enhance learning about typical change terms. I bought the kindle version to read on the train and for ease of use, but I will also be buying the paperback as I am now preparing to become a certified change management practitioner. Highly recommended.....
Rich Change Management Content and Highly Impressive Insights. After having attended a senior leadership workshop led by Peter in the Middle East recently which he impressed all the attendees he continues to shares organisational change management concepts that tend to be major challenges to leaders. I think his approach to change implementation is refreshing, unique and the mark of a potential global change management genius. Volume 3 (The Leadership of Change) builds on the two previous volumes (Fables and the Pocket Guide) develop these previously introduced concepts that can make the difference between successful change implementation or another failed initiative which the author points out, makes the next change even more difficult. This handbook is rich in content and change solution options....
Peter F Gallagher has a very practical and honest approach to change management. He tells it how it is, “From my experience, I see a high number of change initiatives fail, so why is it that change experts and leadership coaches continually praise organisations for their great efforts?” After reading Volumes 1 and 2, I naturally bought Leadership of Change Vol 3 – Change Management Handbook. I’m really impressed again at the structure approach PFG takes to Organisational Change Management as he point out the change challenge really face and not typical listed in academic books. My first impression is that it provides much more detail and content (310 pages) than the pocket guide, and it is well laid out and structured. It contains fifty-five models, figures, assessments, tools, templates, checklists, plans, and a roadmap. As usual, the change implementation follows the ten-step a2B Change Management Framework® and each step starts with a practical case study. The assessments provide a detailed list of questions and step by step instructions. The handbook includes and discusses many more change management concepts that provide potential solutions to the challenges of implementing organisational change. I’d recommend this handbook to all organisational change management professionals wanting to implement practical and effective sustainable change into their organisation.
Probably the best Change Management Handbook on the market if you are looking for a honest and practical organisational change management implementation. The book is structured around the a2B Change Management Framework which focuses on change program delivery. Step one starts with defining the change (is it aligned with the organisation strategy) through Step 10, sustaining and closing the change. Each of the ten man chapters start with a true case study outlining organisational change and people challenges (employees and leaders), then key change concept that everyone should be aware off. One of my favorite was organisation not having any change capacity but trying to do 10 transformation programs!!! Each chapter includes: checklists, critical tools, models, plans, roadmaps, assessments, etc that support change implementation. There is a detailed glossary, bibliography and supporting material. Too many other books discuss change concepts that are not relevant to organisational change management. Sad this other stuff is still pushed, but it does explain why 70% of change programme fail. I recommend this author and his refreshing approach to change.
