It would seem, with 88 previous cases in the first four volumes in this series, Keller would be running out of such cases. But here he presents 22 more stories of psychotic kids doing mayhem. Half a dozen of these stories report episodes of school shootings in three different continents. Once again, Keller offers enough information to adequately explain the facts as they occurred. These particular books are frightening insights into various children's minds. This is another excellent volume.
The 22 cases of killer kids are indeed shocking if only because the killers are children. Murders of parents and family members, school shootings, school bullies who drive their victims to violence, the circumstances may vary, but the outcome is always children behind bars, sometimes for life. Parents and schools are failing the children.
I noted that three of the stories mentioned the influence of Marilyn Manson. I also noted that four of the killers were adopted. Several adult serial killers also were adopted. I am a firm believer in the influence of nature, regardless of nurture. Adoption is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
I am not against adoption. However, I think more information about the biological parents should be made available to adoptive parents so they can be aware of potential problems as the children develop into adulthood.
Why do some children and teens within a family turn out fine, well maybe with some manageable issues, but they don't resort to psychopathic behavior like their bad seed sibling. They endured the same abuse & neglect or worse. Some may turn to drugs or alcohol to forget or dull the mental & physical pain, though even this destructive behavior is turned inward.
But their killer siblings usually start at a young age acting out, killing small animals often including torture, starting fires, not wanting to listen to their parents or others in authority. Now some of these authority figures weren't the best - still that doesn't excuse the behavior of these murderers.
Though bullied they often become bullies, picking on those younger, smaller, and more helpless than themselves. Instead of empathizing with them these bad seeds act out the behavior that had been inflicted on them. Even when they grow up in loving supportive households they exhibit sociopathic behavior toward their siblings and family pets.
A parent is sometimes scared of them. Their murderous behavior is even more unfathomable when they are born or raised in "good" families. They have these uncontrollable impulses to hurt, molest, maim, and kill. Even psychiatric intervention does not stop the behaviors.
Unfortunately our criminal justice system seems I'll equipped to deal with them. Allowing worsening behavior until another family is left grieving the loss of their loved ones.
Robert Keller is a prolific true crime author who has many different series concerning all types of people and eras. I didn't know any of the stories told in this book. His books are fast paced and easy to read usually containing thumbnail sketches or pictures of the killers. Highly recommended.
His books all read like newspaper articles. He doesn't delve too deep into each case. He just gives you the particulars of each case without much meat. I usually just Google each killer's name of I want to know more. Good thing his books are free with Kindle Unlimited because they're definitely not worth buying.
As always Mr. Keller has done an amazing job telling these unfortunate and terribly sad stories. I love how he is able to get the stories across and still able to not put his own views in........ But as I said in the title I'm left wanting MORE!!
As always I'm impressed with the details and information on these kids who kill. It goes to show you can't just blame bad parenting since that's not always the case.
This intriguing book of killer kids is broken down into quick chapters with enough detail to grasp the individual cases. Spread around different parts of the world, with a regular running theme.
Read a tonne of these books. This one I appreciated the slightly shorter chapters and devoured the book in no time. A great read for the true crime book fan
