Grayce MacCarthy possesses the gift of foretelling—but to her, visions are more a curse than a gift. While visiting Ireland, Grayce takes a hike in the Comeragh Mountains, only to fall into a hidden world with no way out. She’s rescued by a gorgeous warrior dressed like a medieval hero in a romance novel. He’s convinced fate brought her to him, while Grayce is convinced her fae-gifted family will find a way to bring her home. After more than a millennium, the Tuatha dé Danann magic separating the hidden valleys from the rest of the world is unraveling. A new chieftain must be chosen to guide the clan through the perils to come, and Brían MacSloan is determined to win that coveted role. When a beautiful woman falls into his world, Brían’s life is turned upside down. Grayce challenges him at every turn, questioning his motives, distracting him from his goals, and stealing his heart. As passion grows between them, Grayce realizes Brían is the only man for her. But then she has a vision revealing a plot to murder Brían, and old rivalries turn deadly. The two are torn apart, and Brían must defeat his enemies and get to Grayce in time, or she’ll be lost to him forever.

I was so excited for this time travel romance read!!!
The reasons for my disappointment were that there were plenty of characters I struggled to keep up with, the story didn’t pull me in and the writing style didn’t attribute to my enjoyment.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Barbara has quite obviously carried out a lot of research into the legends of ancient Ireland, and it is enjoyable to see them come to life. This is not time travel as such, as Grayce MacCarthy doesn’t go back in time when she falls through the ‘crack’; she lands in a different dimension into a land that has been hidden from the world for centuries. It feels like another time because the people have to do everything for themselves, so they wear an ancient style of clothing, made from linen or wool, the only fabrics they have, and they have no modern gadgets. The fae magic that set up this hidden world is set so that when a leader dies a young female from modern Ireland falls into the hidden world there is a strenuous contest between the young unmarried men, the four overall winners have the right to court her until she decides which one she will marry. Of course this is a bit of a minefield, she has lost family, friends and a modern lifestyle, but the system does work quite well as it prevents inbreeding. Married couples have one child, always a son. But the people are worried because the magic is beginning to fail, and they are unsure what will happen to them.

Grayce has always been a rebel, with a somewhat troubled past. She has partly fae blood from an ancestor, and she has ‘the sight’, she sees things that will happen, never for herself though. So when she falls backwards into this other dimension she is not at all pleased. Brian finds her, and takes her back to his family home, and it is not long before she is passionately in love with him, which worries her because she is determined to get back to her own world, and with the fae blood running in her family she is sure it will happen. But dastardly deeds are afoot, not all the villagers are as good natured as Brian and his family, and it gets unpleasant and dangerous for other residents.

It all comes good in the end though, a practical solution is found that will make life better for the hidden villagers, and Grayce gets her man! A good read for a lazy day!

As good as the first one!

It will help you to read the first book but you don't have to. I'm glad I did. This is a swoony story and a great romance. Not overly graphic but still hot.

WOW what a story. A paranormal time travel between present day Ireland and Medieval times. The author wrote the scenes in such a way that it was so easy to imagine the environment e.g. lush green grasses, the wind blowing through the trees and the leaves moving back and forth, the sunrise and sunsets along with the type of clothing. The story even touched upon spinning of cloth from the beginning of sheep's wool to thread to spindle. Also, very descriptive was the cooking over an open flame, baking and the smell of fresh bread in the air. It was also interesting how they kept things cold. Now in this book the world still contained magic. The characters were amazing. They were well developed and flushed out with excellent and unique personalities. Their feelings and emotions came across so vividly and realistic. Even the one out to harm others did a great job of being self-centered, wickedly competitive to the point that cheating was a way of life. The other evil one had only one thing on their mind, getting whatever they felt they wanted and would even murder to get their way. Very interesting villains. When the h realized she was in a different dimension where the entire area was concealed from any earthly or magical view and there was no way back to her world she was devastated. She missed her family. But soon she revealed to the H and his parents her gift of premonition and visions of the future. It really came in handy to save a life. She also had some fae blood in her that gave her her gifts. In the meantime, the story relates how she adjusted to a society without all the modern conveniences of her time. For the first time in her life she was accepted for who she was and what she was by the H and his family. The villagers were friendly and warm to her to. When you read the book, you will discover why. As tradition dictated the men of the clan held, according to the h, a he man competition to see who would be worthy to court her. Only the best and brave would have the honor. In the meantime, the h was torn in two. She wished to be rescued but at the same time she was losing her heart to the H. According to the h, the H was physically the image of her romance books. Tall, brawn, intelligent, kind and a little arrogant. But the H was also falling for the h. The veil that hid them from the outside world was unraveling and no one knew what could be done. Even the wise druids did not have an answer but were hopeful to find one. This is such an exciting read. It is full of the wonder of paranormal gifts, facing the demigods who wished to decide their fate and the admirable conclusion. So heartwarming, so entertaining, such realistic feelings and emotions. A page turner with plenty of action sure to please. A must read. You will not be disappointed.

Fascinating and Complex World

While a lot of time-travel romance seems to take place in Scotland, no doubt due to the popularity of Outlander, this time-travel romance is set in Ireland. It is tempting to say that it is ancient Ireland, but it is actually an ancient group of people who have lived in a hidden vale for over a millennium. So is it really time-travel romance? It feels that way because the hidden society is nothing like our modern one. They are frozen in the third or fourth century—with chieftains and druids—even though they coexist side-by-side with modern times. The world is very complex, and I feel like I cannot do it justice in a short review. The book has to do with the Fianna, the fae, and certain gifts passed down through families. When someone dies in the Hidden Vale, a woman is brought over from our contemporary realm to the hidden one. As you might imagine, the women aren't always particularly happy that this has happened! These women are prized, though, by this hidden society, and the men who might be interested in those women have to compete for a chance to court her. This is all made more complex in this particular book because it seems like the boundaries set in place so long ago between the hidden society and contemporary society are fracturing. What will all this mean to this ancient society and the couple at the heart of the book? I found this to be a fascinating and very different read. I love the heroine; she is certainly a spiky one, but the hero appreciates her fierceness and boldness. You have to love that!

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

It’s okay.

While in Ireland to attend her nephews christening, Grayce decides to go for a hike and falls into a village frozen in time by the fae. There, she meets Brian Who she is drawn to. But she knows she shouldn’t get attached because she’s got a secret weapon in the form of a Fae relation.

This review has some spoilers.

Honestly this isn’t as good as the first book in the series. There’s an inherent problem with this story and there’s a bit of sort of dubious consent. The problem is that for the majority of the book after the heroine arrives there is no way for her to go back. And she doesn’t have any recourse but to marry somebody from the village. Basically the way the village works is when one person dies a woman falls through the veil into this village so that they can marry someone within the village and then bear a single son.

Not to mention that because the village was frozen in time in the third century A.D. there’s some fairly sexist overtones to this and from the hero. Like there’s a whole competition over who has the right to compete For the opportunity to woo Grayce.

It didn’t land well with me. And for part of the story I had a hard time believing the romance. And there’s a thing that happens later on that just has me scratching my head. Not to mention that the last third of the book moves really really really fast.

I don’t know this just wasn’t as strong as the first book in the series which I absolutely adored.

It’s not a bad for the characters are well developed including the side characters but there’s too many of them and that may be part of the problem.

Ultimately this book is just okay.

Three stars.

There is nothing better than a good read that ho!ds the reader's attention through the whole book. Hidden in Time is such a read. This is Grayce's story, the second of the MacCarthy sisters. Grace has been a bit of a wild child, but she was just trying to outrun her special gift of visions that foretell the future. She takes a hike in the Comeragh Mountains to clear her kid and soul. Instead she takes not so much a time travel trip as a lateral trip into a hidden valley landing at Brian's feet. The hidden vales have been magically concealed for seventeen-hundred years to keep them safe from a war that did not involve them. The inhabitants live normal life spans under druid law, but the women only hear sons. As one person dies, a young woman from the other side is added to their population. The single young men then participate in games of strength and skill to win the right to court her. However, when Grayce came through so did a second d woman, the first time that had happened. Will Grayce ever see her family again? Will Grayce and Brian's relationship grow to love? What about the mischief makers, Brian's family nemesis? Will bad overcome good? Will the weakening magic that hides the vales unravel completely leaving them vulnerable to the modern outside world? Often the second book in a series does not live up to the promise of the first. This is not the case with this series. Book two is as delightful has book one. I am looking forward to book three with great anticipation.

What a Magical Adventure

This story was very different from the first book. This story is about people being trapped in a realm for 17,000 years and have been protected by magic and hidden from the real world. The story line had my attention from the very beginning. Grayce falls through the veil and is found by Brian. At first Grayce is angry and upset at the fact that she has been told that she will never be able to return home again. Of course there is something that draws Brian and Grayce together and I loved how sweet the relationship was between Brian and Grayce. This book didn’t end as I expected it to. It was even better. The way fate brought Brian and Grace together to help their clan navigate into a new world was amazing. I loved so many characters in the book. I would love to see the series expand so we can see how some of the other characters lives turn out. I would love to even read a story of how Brian’s parents met and what their lives entailed. I’m ready for the next book please about Meredith!!

An entertaining fantasy romance, the author has an incredible imagination as she describes a society from a bygone era that is enshrouded in magic. When modern-day Grayce disappears into a tunnel between two worlds, she takes with her all the smart alec ways she has employed to survive her unusual gift. What she doesn't expect is to be appreciated by the men of the valley who find her endearing and admire her courage. Brian MacSloan is a contender for the role of chieftain for his clan, and when Grayce literally drops at his feet, he knows that she is his destiny. The novel is entertaining and with some high adventure as two worlds meet and a conflict in values ensues. It does help if one has read the first book in the series as it gives the reader more information regarding current events. Nevertheless, this novel is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I was privileged to read an ARC copy of Barbara Longley's latest book in The MacCarthy Sisters series, Hidden in Time. Ms. Longley's first book in the series, Tangled in Time, sets up a very different approach to time travel with the oldest sister, Regan MacCarthy. Although each book is a stand-alone novel, I found it easier to accept the possibility of going through time and therefore had more empathy for the second sister, Grayce MacCarthy, and her unexpected adventure in the third century. The characters were charming, funny at times, and believable. It was a fun read and I look forward to what I am sure will be a third installment of the series with Grayce's twin sister, Meredith, finding her soul mate in a time far away from the present day.

This is a interesting and dramatic story with an intriguing storyline. While hiking in Ireland, Grayce falls through a tear in time, finding herself in the past. Brian is on patrol when Grayce lands at his feet, and he immediately knows that she is fated to be his wife. When Grayce is told that all of the women there have come through time, and not one has ever been able to return home, she insists that her brother-in-law's half fae daughter will be coming for her. While there, Brian must compete in a series of challenges for the honor of courting her. She initially rebels against it, but gives in to everything when she realizes that Boann is not coming for her. Dealing with the challenge, a tear in time and the fight for clan leadership leaves both Brian and Grayce stressed out. Their romance is sweet and the rest of the goings-on are very interesting to read.

This book is the second book in the MacCarthy Sisters series. I didn't read the first book, but this one can be enjoyed as a standalone. Gracey MacCarthy is in Ireland with her parents and twin sister visiting her older sister and her family that was featured in the first book. One day she decides to strike out on a hike in the mountains and while sitting against a rock having a snack, the rock gives way and she falls through a tunnel into a hidden world. When she comes out the tunnel, she is lying at the feet of Brian MacSloan, a handsome warrior from centuries ago. This was an interesting time travel novel with a beautiful setting and great characters.

Thank you to Goodreads and Barbara Longley for the gift of this book that I received in a giveaway.

I don’t even know where to begin with this book. Having read the first one, I thought I knew what I was in for, but Grayce’s story is subtly different from her sister’s. And like that first book, this one made me love it in spite of the fact that I usually don’t like time travel romances. For me, this felt more fantasy than time-travel. And that really worked for me because I’m a classic fantasy fan. I loved watching Grayce come to terms with her gifts and finding her place in the world. And Brian finding his peace and place as well.

Undeniably Good

Engrossing from beginning to end, Barbara Longley provides readers a time travel book of undeniable pleasure.

Excitement reigns from beginning to end as Grayce falls through time landing in a hidden world, meets her beloved Brian and his family and has one adventure after another. And of course there are dealings with the fae which leave the reader wondering if a resolution for saving the hidden world is possible.

A nail biter, with a few surprises interspersed throughout, makes HIDDEN IN TIME a five star winner! Ms Longley never disappoints in her writing or her characters which makes this book a must read!

The second book in The MacCarthy Sisters follows Grayce as she is thrown into a hidden world that doesn't have indoor plumbing, cut off from her family, and is made a prize for a competition between the young men. Luckily there is a handsome and kind man named Brían to fall madly in love with. In comparison to the first book the storyline was easier to comprehend due to the lack of time travel and multiverse references. Instead the majority of the book takes place in a hidden vale. Overall it was a cute love story with decent pacing but it did skip over the final trials which was a bit disappointing.

Hidden in Time: A Magical Adventure Romance is the second book in The MacCarthy Sisters series and is a wonderful time travel romance.

I loved this story as well as the characters of Grayce and Brian. They are well developed, intelligent, likable, and have great chemistry together. The storyline is well written and enchanting, with time travel, Fae, suspense, passion, danger, drama, and romance.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more.

Steamy and Dreamy
A great addition to the MacCarthy Sister series. Grayce is a seer, she can see things in the future. She longs to be free of the "curse" as she calls it. She is trying to be happy for her sister and her husband with their little boy, but she is restless. She falls for a guy, but to be with him, means she will never see her family again. He is everything she has ever wanted but can she leave her family forever?

Brian and Grayce

I enjoyed this unusual story. I met Grayce's elder ghost whisperer sister in the previous book in "time traveling".
Some of the same characters returned which I always like in books it gets a person a better chance to come to know the individuals. one sad thing in the book is I didn't like the old lady dying. I love that in this book as well as the previous book The Heroes of the story were very well-mannered and yet sexy!

Barbara Longley delivered a great story of love that has the depth to withstand not just danger, but also rifts in time. Book 2 of the McCarthy Sisters Series tells the tale of Grayce and Brian. The pair share a connection that I can only call "otherworldly". The book is truly magical and will captivate the reader from beginning to end. Phenomenal job.

I just want to start by saying I absolutely adore Barbara Longley's novels. In this book, the story keeps the pace quite well. She introduces the characters in a way that makes them feel so real, even when they are 3rd century or Fae. And yet she still brings the emotions on to keep you engaged in the book. This was an amazing addition to the MacCarthy collection and I cannot wait to go to the next!

Good Chemistry

Love it when an author gives us reasons why the h/h actually like each other outside of lust. What resonants between the two. What they admire. I'm a sucker for time travel novels, and like the twist the author gave to this one and the previous book in this series. Also enjoy the humor throughout the book. Nice touch of suspense too.

I am so glad that I stumbled upon Barbara's writing. This novel, much like its predecessor, are fantastically written and well researched. I love all the Irish lore mixed in that gives this novel a nice twist not seen often in time travel romances.

The characters are lovable as well as relatable and I certainly did not want this book to end.

Good example of this genre. Two love interest characters have a nice banter. Female lead a bit overly fatalistic at times. Had read book 1 in this series, and this has a good tie in. Supporting characters stronger in book 1. Overall, enjoyable read.
