Two shifters in town…

…may be one too many.

What's a woman who just wants to run her pawnshop and quit stumbling over dead bodies to do?

What happens when the danger is coming from inside the shop?

You'll love this laugh-out-loud addition to the Tiger's Eye Mysteries series, because Dead End, Florida hasn't been this strange since the vampire started driving the blood bank bus.

Eagle Eye is the eighth title in the humorous paranormal mystery series that features pawn shop owner, Tess, and tiger shifter PI, Jack. Even though something strange always happens in Dead End, everyone is surprised when the statue of Dead End’s founder (Jack’s many-greats grandfather) comes to life and spreads news of an impending disaster.

I auto-buy all of the stories in the Tiger’s Eye Mysteries and try to read them within a year of purchase. I’m doing pretty good with Eagle Eye, as it came out earlier this year. While I love the series overall, the books are not constantly wonderful, with Eagle Eye falling into the “not as great” side of things.

I absolutely love Tess and Jack’s relationship. These friends continue to develop a romantic relationship and grow closer. This is not a romance series, and their relationship is not the focus, but it adds heart to each book. I also love the light-hearted nature of the stories. The humor is laugh-out-loud silly at times.

What didn’t work for me were the actual storylines. The story of the missing Fae dagger was convoluted at times, with little explanation for why some of the characters suddenly had a large knowledge of all things Fae and Tess’s sudden sensitivity to the fae magic. And while it is somewhat connected to the Fae dagger plot, the side story of Logan the eagle shifter was extraneous and unnecessary. Finally, it felt like Jack and Tess were just going from crisis to crisis with little actual sleuthing.

I always love returning Dead End. However, I feel like this one was a bit less cohesive than previous stories. I found that the scattered and chaotic nature of the tale kept me from feeling 100% connected. But I love these characters and enjoyed the story.

My Rating: B-

Was it worth the wait?

Well, the jury’s still out on that. I have been waiting to get my mitts on this book for ages, but every time the release was pushed back I felt my desire to read this diminish. Then it happened. The book was released and I could finally read it… and, it was okay 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s not bad, but I don’t love it as much as some of the previous books. The author has added a new POV to the narrative, and as much as I love Jack, I didn’t see the need for a new voice. It’s nice seeing Dead End, and Jack, through Tess’s eyes. The mystery that unfolds is twofold, and was not as intriguing (to me), but we see all the regulars, so there’s that. Logan’s a jerk, and I will say that the statute mentioned in the synopsis plays a majorly important role that I wasn’t expecting, but loved. Fairly fast paced with enough action that I blew through this pretty quickly.

Tess and Jack tangle.with the Fae.

Dead End is never boring that's for sure, one morning the town sheriff calls Tess and asks does she know anything about a missing status that usually stands in the town square. The status is of an ancestor of Jacks -----Jeb Shepard------- who founded the town three centuries earlier. By the time Jack and Tess get to the town square the status is back in its normal place but then something strange happens and the status disappears leaving a living man in its place------- one who looks a lot like Jack. It's Jeb come to life............turns out he's been under a fae enchantment all this time, he's been sent back to warn Jack that if he doesn't return the dagger her stoke from the fae queen tRead End will be razed to the ground in five days time......................only problem Jack hasn't stolen a fae dagger......ever. .......So what's to be done.........

You know, it seems baffling to me how a pawn shop owner in the middle of nowhere seems to always be in the middle of such drama. I mean; it’s funny but it’s starting to feel like someone cursed her to live in interesting times.

And now Jack’s ancestor is back, which is interesting too.

A lot of drama, hi jinx, and general weirdness later…and Jack, who had already been hit with the epiphany Tess is his mate, also suddenly realizes he’s in love with her (they’re mutually exclusive apparently)

Good

Jack and Tess are back, and this time it involves a Fae queen’s Bargain, a missing dagger, untrustworthy newcomers, and an old relative…
Not to mention Tess’ birthday- which is certainly shaping up to be exciting if not exactly good.

This book is a little longer than most of the others in the series, and so has quite an involved plot, and a great deal of happenings!
We see Jack and Tess’ romance blossom, learn a little about the history of Dead End and what makes it such a unique town, as well as the mystery that leaves both Jack and Tess scratching their heads.
This book also brings us a little more in the form of some scenes from Jack’s point of view.
I must mention here, that there is a scene involving chicken that had me crying with laughter it was so funny. I won’t spoil it, I just wanted to mention that it was absolutely hilarious- and there were a number of amusing remedies and cures that made me giggle too.

If you enjoy cosy paranormal mystery stories, especially ones with a little humour thrown in, then you’ll love this series, and this book in particular.

If you haven't read this series yet, start now! How can you not love a series that starts off with "A tiger, an alligator, and a redneck walked into my pawnshop." What an opening line!

This series is the story of Jack (the tiger) and Tess (the pawnshop owner). Oh, and Tess sees how you die if you touch her. They live in Dead End, Florida, a quaint (read "weird") little town on the edge of the swamp. Hilarious hijinks ensue in every story in the series. An eagle shifter, not trusted by anyone, shows up looking for his sister, a Fae Queen threatens to destroy the entire town if Jack doesn't locate and return her dagger, and the statue in town comes to life. Of course it does. And it's Jack's many great-grandfather!

If you read her Poseidon's Warriors series, these are nothing like then, despite being a sort of spin off. These are hilarious, paranormal cozy mysteries.

While theoretically you could read the books as standalones, don't. They are so much better in proper order, as they do build on each other.

When Tess is visited by a large eagle it turns out to be a shapeshifter acquaintance of Jack’s who’s not happy about it. Then the headaches started.

That music box is so cool. I have a lot of music boxes and wish I had one like that.

Footnote: 1) Where does she get the energy to come home from work and whip up two pies? She definitely doesn’t have kids and a husband.

2) I love all the different headache remedies that are suggested, especially the ABC 123 one. I texted that to a friend who gets a lot of them.

Fave scenes: the chicken out the window, Tess’s MacGyver solution, explaining the bat and Jack’s surprise for Tess.

choppy and confusing, especially when the story starts with Tess upside down in a well. It seems as if the editing took away the parts that was needed to explain the story line. Its as if the author was concentrating on Tess and Jack's romance and the stolen artifact was secondary. While the editing was trying to concentrate on the stolen artifact and play down Tess and Jack's I love you... I love you too moments. Maybe a re write is in order, so the story line makes sense. I like Tess and Jack's escapades, but this story is weak and the plot is lost.

Another fun book with all the citizens of Dead End getting ready to evacuate if Tess and Jack can't solve the crisis before a deadline. More of solving the mystery than characters interactions in this book, still lots of fun. The best part was the relationship of Tess and Jack made a huge change instead of the waffling we normally see. We even meet Jack's great great great great grandpa, and I think we'll see him in the future. As always humor and caring are the main ingredient of these books.

Tess and Jack have a lot to figure out and deal with in this book. There is a new shifter in town, a person known and disliked by Jack. The Fae deliver an ultimatum to the town and the towns folk aren't going to take it.
The storylines in this series are always unique, interesting and fun and this one is my favourite so far. Danger, family, friends and the paranormal kept me engaged until the end. I enjoyed every word.

love love love this series

Well Dead End won’t make it another month with out death and destruction hitting the unique and small town. Tess and Jack are racing against the clock to find a missing dagger before destruction befalls Dead End.

Many things happen in this book and Tess and Jack’s relationship grows by leaps and bounds. This is a wonderful action packed adventure and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Another must read

I absolutely loved this book!!! I loved that we also got to read from Jack's point of view, I wasn't sure that I was going like it but I loved it. We get to meet Jack's great....grandpa in this book and he is also a tiger 🐅 shifter. We have the fae to deal with and an eagle shifter as well, things are never dull in Dead End. Read for yourself to find out more!!!!!!

The Bargain

Surprises never end in what should be a sleepy little town but that's not the case, again. This time Jack gets a crazy message from the Fae Queen, an awakened relative & the town gets a deadline. Jack & Tess once more must ferrite out the clues and solve the problem before "the world ends".

Splendidly super

Must read all of the Tiger Eye Mysteries. Fast paced stories. Start at one and just keep going. Tigers ,pawnshop owner, ex mayor, new mayor, God fearing church people and a whole lot more people found in Dead End Fla. Fast flowing ,spine tingling, mind shattering greats. Can't wait till next year for the continuing adventures.

I had expected to give this 4 stars...

Finally, Jack and Tess realize they are in love. But even though everyone finds out and reacts, the "big reveal" was buried in all the other things happening in and around Dead End.

Still, the story was entertaining and sometimes funny, so 3 stars this time.

This has to be one of the best in this series by Ms. Day. I laughed and I sighed throughout the book as Jack and Tess meet one of Jack's ancestors and must find a Fae dagger before Dead End is destroyed. It was fun to visit the residents of Dead End and it was an absolutely amazing ending. Aunt Ruby for the win! I can't wait to see what happens next in Dead End.

An exciting mystery and romance with new and returning characters.
Typos: one of the statues is a "statute" (law). A character explains that "sheriff" comes from "Shire Reef," but a cursory web search will tell you that is flat out wrong. "Sheriff" comes from the Anglo-Saxon position of "Shire REEVE."

A day in the life

I love this whole series! Dead End is truly a mystery, and everyone in it is just a bit odd. Dealing with fae, shifters, humans, or Atlanteans is just another day around there. Tess is amazing and hysterical, and so is Jack. I can't wait for more.

The fae come to Dead End

The status of Jack's great-grandfather comes to live in downtown Dead End. He brings a message from the autumn queen that they must find her dagger or she will destroy the town.

I love this series! Reading it makes me happy :) These books are always such a fun read and I like that they are a little bit innocent as well. The only reason I don't give these 5 stars is because they are too short!
