The mission was simple: infiltrate the enemy and gather intel. But what Dylan and Blake couldn’t have prepared for was that an easy cover story could turn into reality.
Dylan is more than just an elite Navy SEAL with something to prove. He’s a dark-haired omega that will do whatever it takes to get the job done, even if it means pretending to the mate of a charming spy on a secret mission.
Flirty, and confident, Blake is a professional spy who takes nothing for granted. He’s also a self-assured Alpha who has been sent to gather as much information as he can about a new shifter group called the Shadow Pack. The assignment is simple – infiltrate the group, and return with information.
These two shifters were never supposed to meet, but when an accident during a full moon puts their lives at risk, these strangers realize that in order to survive, they’re going to have to depend on each other before their cover is blown, and their lives are put in jeopardy.

*** A hunky Omega Navy Seal, and an Alpha hacker/covert operator, are drawn together by circumstances. *** Did I mention they are wolf shifters ? Dylan is captured on a mission, and Blake creates a ruse of fake mates to help the SEAL out of the lock-up.
Dylan is a brown and copper wolf,
where Blake is white/blonde with blue eyes.
Now they must show the compound they are mates, and work together on the investigation. Many kinds of shifters are there, and the pack leader is a Dragon. The first part, being a "fake mate," is difficult for Dylan, but he is leery of the connection he feels toward Blake. The story is interesting, the plot flowing smoothly, and interactions intense. Deep characters, likable guys who are sexy and hot make this worthwhile. Their first shower sex is strained, and I assumed Blake's Alpha kept Omega Dylan from resisting or fighting. The result of that history was sad. Aside from that, they were a sizzling pair, lovingly caring, and emotional, with a shocking secret revealed.
They slow down and get to be more comfortable, and the mission gets more active. I liked these guys, the story, the writing, and the concept. We are left with a stand alone tale, HFN, "happy for now" ending, which is quite hopeful. I'll be trying more Noah Harris books. :) ENJOY !!! ==============
Really easy reading with light ABO tones amongst a military setting - both always add extra points for me. This was a bit different from the usual uncontrollable mate urges and insta love, and I found it quite refreshing. Not over the top, not cheesy, no eye rolling was performed while reading this.
Dylan unwittingly finds himself smack dab in the middle of a covert operation he had no intention of ever being involved with. But in order to keep his and Blake's identities safe, he agrees to pretend they're mates. As they help each other gather intel on the mysterious Shadow Pack, desire and attraction run rampant. Blake has a bit of secret; he's crushed hard on Dylan since they were teens. Dylan has no clue who Blake is and tries not to lose his carefully constructed self control.
This was quite the decent, sexy read with plenty of ust and nice angsty insecurity. I'm totally not opposed to continuing with this series whenever book #2 should arrive.
2.5 stars rounded up because overall the story was okay. Warning: dub-con (possibly non-con) scene
I liked this book, mainly because it was unusual in regard to the insta love we so often find in this kind of PNR.
Dylan and Blake were thrown into a situation neither of them had anticipated. To keep their cover within the enemy’s territory, they had to fake being mates. This had been Blake’s idea and he clearly enjoyed every opportunity of being close to Dylan who was a lot more hesitant about accepting the casual closeness and displays of affection from a stranger.
The story reads easily and the plot is interesting. I would read the next book in this series if it revolves around Blake and Dylan. I kind of want to see how their relationship develops and where they end up.
The reasons why this wasn’t a solid 3-stars-read:
1. After Blake revealed his BIG secret I expected a more profound reaction from Dylan. Doesn’t matter whether this would have been a good or bad one. Everything but this… acquiescence. It felt as if the author needed this secret to build the story upon and keep it flowing and as soon as it wasn’t needed anymore it was just dismissed.
2. The first sex scene between Dylan and Blake involves dub-con (possibly considered non-con by some of you). Dub-con / non-con doesn’t bother me in general but here I felt like I was missing something important in the aftermath. A few more sentences to explain Dylan’s thoughts would have gone a long way towards making his behavior much more understandable. Without that, I just felt confused.
I read this book on the recommendation of a friend from Goodreads! I am so happy I did, as I have found a new author who writes great PNR shifter stories and I am hooked! I loved the passion and emotion that Noah Harris is able to weave into the mysterious and fast paced stories. 4 stars and a recommendation to all who love shifters!! I am going to grab the next book now!!
This was a solid introduction to a new-to-me author and a new series.
Not much world building, but it still felt very PNR-ish (I guess wolf and dragon shifters will do that haha).
I enjoyed the book and it reads really fast, but the romance evolution was a bit bumpy and kept me from rating this higher. I liked Blake and Dylan together, but with Dylan being so hesitant and jumpy in their "fake" relationship...I needed to be in his POV when the switch happened to them trying to be more. It happened too quickly for me to understand why Dylan finally gave in...ESPECIALLY because of the timing.
Also, I found their shared history to be unbelievable. There's no way Dylan wouldn't have remembered Blake.
The book ends somewhere close to a HFN, but not 100% as things are a bit in limbo with Blake's undercover work. The book may not have blown me away, but I'm still interested enough in seeing where these two go from here. Off to the next book...
It was really good actually. I totally didn't expect that. I especially liked the ending which while a bit abrupt somehow was perfect for the story.
I did have some confusion with their physiques though. Dylan was said to be the muscular heavy type and Blake the lean but with muscles type. But Blake at one point in the book carries Dylan and fucks him against the wall. I mean I get shifter strength and all that but Dylan is a shifter too and stacked with muscles. Which, kinda inconsistent of the author I think.
What was right about this one? Nothing—nada--- zilch--- Here’s what went wrong and we’re only talking to the end of the 3rd chapter here before I called it quits. I also decided to write my review in much the same way the story was written, chaotic, lacking proper commas, and unorganized.
--Dylan is on a mission, not sure what kind of mission just a mission- not sure where or to do what. It’s just a mission but hey, Dylan is prepared. Except for everything that happens in the story. The author will even tell you this several times. He is prepared except for such and such. There are a bunch of weres, shifter SEALS and two officers. Nope not a clue what kind of officers. There’s a werebear and a flippant out-of-left field mention about being a wolf. Their mission was one (whatever that means), if all goes according to planned. (But wait… isn’t Dylan supposed to be prepared for everything?) --There is some mention about shifting to relieve tension the night before the full moon, to help them keep in control of themselves. (Wait! Aren’t these guys on a Mission? As in like shifter SEALS? So one would think they are in control of themselves, right? Not newbies? --Alphas are wandering around and some omegas. I got the sense that the author isn’t entirely sure what an omega is but used it anyways hoping no one would notice. --There is a constant mention about staying down wind. (I guess someone didn’t take a bath or something.) Then the mention of being in heat. (maybe that’s why they are downwind? They don’t really clarify on this. I had to double check this was still MM and all the shifters on the ‘Mission’ were also all male. No mention of mpreg so far. That checked out so not sure who was in heat. But just to be clear (for the author), unless you’re creating mpreg, dudes don’t go into heat. Some anatomically correct biology would have been a welcome here. There was apparent news received of a mate giving birth. Were ‘told’ that. --A werebear who is cranky and loud, but knows not to make too much noise even though he is stomping around and ripping up trees. (make up your mind: he is either noisy or not. Shredding trees tends to suggest a lot of noise) --Dylan wanders away from the others but has two following with him. (Again, make up your mind: alone means alone.) --Now mind you there is zero world building here. Outside? Warehouse? Took over the circus tent? Nothing. No mention of enemy territory, terra forming, social network, is there milk and cookies later? Again nothing is there to set a place/stage, just the banging about on a mission to steal Johnny Walker’s crayons. Or something. --Next they’re preparing to tranquilize themselves. Not enough to dope themselves out because that wouldn’t be safe. Better to be high as a kite but still be able to run away then be passed out sloshed drunk on the ground. Except they staked their dumb asses to the ground. The whole thing just makes the SEALS more like fools and unimpressive. --It should have been routine except someone (the werebear got ratted out in the next sentence) got the doses wrong, maybe? (can’t decide?) -- then it jumps back to saying “All was going smoothly….” (Make up your mind… it was going according to plan then it went wrong but is started off good???) --then it goes into ‘telling the future scene’ of their doped up full moon night in past tense. Wtf?
Stop! Stop! Stop! Don’t publish until you learn to write a coherent story that readers can follow without getting a headache. Please learn to write in a forward thought. A consistent thought that will develop a plot or something. Some trees and a roof would be nice. And bacon. Everything goes down better with bacon. --And get an editor. One sentience had six commas when it didn’t need even one. Patient and patience are not interchangeable. --Formatting is sloppy
WARNING for readers: first three chapter in their entirety read exactly as I displayed above. Banging around topics like bumper cars. The author can’t seem to make up their mind if they are coming or going, bouncing off walls, doing the moonwalk or passing tokes around. Through and through. I stopped after that. For those who like to attack reviewers with the nonsense that I have to read an entire book to qualify to review you. Here is my suggestion to you, go ahead and grab that rotten apple from the bottom of the fruit stand and take a big a** bite of it and chew on that awhile. Now try and tell me you have to eat the entire rotten thing to know if it was truly suck ass bad or maybe the last bite surprised with a sweet decadence. I don’t need to waste any more time than I already have. POST NOTE: Just to prove my point, I skipped to the end, last two lines read as… “Blake was infuriating and cocky, but he was also kind and caring. Dylan was prepared for many things, but one thing he could never have been prepared for was getting a mate.” Two sentence both contradictions. I rest my case. You may want to pass on this one or keep aspirin close and pillow to buffer tablet throwing.
"Their missions were never supposed to cross, yet one fateful accident during a full moon intertwines their fates."
I was drawn in like a moth to a flame. As much as I like contemporary romance, I love paranormal ones also.
I was given this book as an ARC by the author for an honest review.
Blake, wolf, computer nerd, mole had a crush on Dylan, ever since he was a young boy. To finally have the SEAL as his mate, even if it's just for the mission was more than he could ever hope for.
A mistake with his team during the full moon found Dylan as the newest member of the Shadow Pack; the same pack he was sent to gather information about.
When Blake claimed Dylan as his errant mate, Dylan plays along. The two joins forces in work and eventually in bed.
The chemistry was surreal and I found this to be an exciting ride. I love reading Noah's books and look forward to volume two.
I really liked this book, although I expected more action and the ending was a too abrupt. Hopefully the next book in the series is a continuation of Dylan and Blake's story.
A M/M military shifter romance with intrigue dampened with romantic manipulation and dubious consent.
Title: Sailing Deep Author: Noah Harris Series: Paranormal Shifter - M/M NAVY SEAL Genre: M/M Paranormal Romance
Main Characters:
Blake is a highly trained soldier, part of an elite all-shifter unit within the Navy SEALS. He has dedicated his life to working with his unit to protect his people and his country. As an Omega, he can mate with other shifters, but his love life has been seriously dormant since his high school boyfriend broke his heart years ago.
Dylan is an intelligence operative working undercover in a shifter organization to try to determine their purpose. It’s the same organization that Blake’s unit is trying to get intel on. Dylan is an Alpha without a mate, but immediately likes the idea of claiming Blake, even if it’s just to explain his sudden appearance in the questionable shifter community.
Plot/Conflict:
Blake ends up behind enemy lines after a SNAFU during the full moon. Dylan recognizes him from photos (because Dylan is the mole planted in the shifter pack under investigation) and claims Blake as his mate in order to explain his presence in the camp. It quickly becomes apparent that Dylan is more than willing to take things further than “fake mates” by Blake is reluctant to jump in heart first with the overly charming alpha.
While Blake and Dylan are figuring out their relationship status, there is still the shifter pack to figure out, the missing members of Blake’s SEAL unit, and the weird knowledge and connection that Dylan seems to have with Blake.
Loves:
I can’t say there was anything that stood out enough to love here. There were some likes, but more peeves.
Likes:
The actual story and plot line are pretty cool, the idea of the shifter military unit isn’t a new one, but this one was done well and in a believable manner.
Peeves:
Blake took too long to get in line with the program for me. He was emotionally guarded without specific reason mentioned to his character. And this kind of played into my next biggest peeve, or maybe major freaking issue is better:
Dubious consent. The first real sex scene between Blake and Dylan is one of questionable consent at best. It’s blamed on Dylan’s wolf instincts, he can’t stop, he can’t help but be rough, etc. Blake says no, tells Dylan to wait, mentions pain, etc, but never physically fights Dylan off. Afterwards, Blake is in so much pain he can barely walk. And at this point, you still don’t think that Blake even moderately LIKES Dylan, let alone manages to feel something for him. And after Dylan helps Blake get in bed and gets him dinner after pretty much raping him, Blake decides that this is the start of their physical relationship and they now start acting like a real couple. No. Sorry. Not my thing.
I was really trying. Truly. But I just couldn't get past Dylan, the Navy SEAL who was dumber than a brain-damaged Labrador. How the fuck that guy ever managed to get on a SEAL team without knowing the first thing about an undercover op is beyond me. No, he's not specifically a spy, but SEALS are trained in that shit. Seriously.
So the blurb carries a disclaimer. “This is a very hot and steamy book”. Well, I like hot and steamy, so I thought, why not. Turns out the author’s definition of “hot and steamy” is rape. Not dub con, not non-con (or any other cutesy little phrases that are designed to dilute the gravity of forced sex) it was rape. When one partner says “wait” several times and the other responds no and goes on to penetrate him (penetration that results in physical injury as well) that’s called rape.
If the lack of a trigger warning, and rape described as hot and steamy, wasn’t enough to let you know the author is A OK with rape, the characters’ reactions are. There’s a brief stint of recrimination, the victim assumes some blame, then acts like it ain’t nothing but a thang, and they fall into a romance.
This started out really intriguing. I liked the shifter world and enjoyed Blake and Dylan trying to deal with their building attraction to each other. Couldn't wait for them to finally get together. Then the rape scene totally ruined it. The relationship didn't seem realistic at all after that, and continued dub-con scenes really rubbed me the wrong way.
A complimentary audio was provided in exchange for an honest review.
This was a light shifter story with cute characters. I wasn't sure exactly why Dylan and Blake were undercover with this particular pack. Aside from that I enjoyed this. It's not something to be taken seriously and I found a lot of joy in this fluffy romance. 😊 3 stars. Recommend for those looking for a light, easy, and not to be taken seriously read.
The narration! STELLAR!!! AWESOME! I could listen to him forever! I need to find more by him. Highly recommend the narrator. He was able to put character in to the characters, vocal talent was great.
Two men that have to act as fake mates, Blake knows who Dylan is but Dylan hasn’t a clue who Blake is.
Dylan is part of a Navy SEAL mission to spy on a pack of shifters called “Shadow Pack”. The US government wants to make sure that this pack is no threat to humans as this pack has grown quickly in a short amount of time. Dylan’s unit is mostly made up of different shifters and when the full moon comes around the protocol is to chain the shifters and give them a mild sedative to keep the wild side of their animal calm.
The sedatives used turned out to be weaker than what should have been administered and when their shift happened, a bear shifter went wild and pulled the stake out of the ground that held him by chains. In the bear’s frustration, once freed, he charges in the direction of Dylan, who is in his wolf form, but instead of attacking Dylan, he trips on Dylan’s chains pulling up his stake setting Dylan free.
Dylan’s wolf takes over and runs off still groggy and not knowing where he was going. In the morning, awakening groggy he’s discovered by the Shadow Pack’s border patrol and brought back to a very large castle which turned out to be the Shadow Pack’s compound. Blindfolded he’s taken to a very comfortable holding cell waiting to be questioned. In the meantime, the mole within the castle, Blake, creates chaos making it know that they had just captured his mate.
Dylan is in total confusion as to who this man is and how he knew him by name. Eventually, by Blake’s prompting, he unwillingly played along with the ruse of being this man’s fake mate. Fake mate or not Dylan didn’t want to buy into it and it took him weeks before he could even let Blake touch him without flinching.
Together they had to show they were mates and at the same time investigate and keep an open eye to anything they heard or saw that might prove this is a dangerous compound. Blake knew what he wanted and that was Dylan, but Dylan didn’t want anything to do with Blake. But over time of playing mates in public, Blake lost control when he went into the bathroom while Dylan showered, and the result was raw sex with Blake hurting Dylan.
After that Dylan felt defeated and to Blake’s surprise the two men interactions changed for the better in public and in private. Dylan’s emotion changed toward the man but doesn’t realize it until Dylan is forced to leave to save his unit. Once home he realizes how much he missed Blake. I had read this book in 2016 and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around.
Overall book review: 2.8 Confused... Stars Audio book: Book cover: 4.5
Well...what can I say ... I loved the cover? I did! I loved it. And that is that.
Because like...where is the rest of the story??
I liked the idea. I got myself all warm and cosy in this “Shadow Pack”. Who wouldn’t for heaven sake there’s a DRAGON SHIFTER alpha! How cool is that??
I felt like....
You get so much information. You get drawn into a world and a relationship and the Poof! Gone. Next please?
This book was just bad. Ok Dylan is a Navy SEAL but can't recognize his high school boyfriend's little brother? He dated said boyfriend for three years and they grew up in the same pack. He also wasn't using a fake name. Shouldn't he be more observant? There was no steamy sex happening (or really much of anything) until about halfway through when there's a straight up rape that happens but it's somehow ok because Blake really liked him. I started skimming after that. Will not finish this series or anything else from this author most likely.
As long as the series remains focused on our two main characters. There is too much unresolved between these two unlikely mates. Blake has always loved Dylan and he is wearing Dylan down...He will have his mate...also I think this home is perfect for them stay with and protect. Their Dragon shifter alpha is a great man who just wants a safe haven for all the different shifters that want peace.
This book really should have come with a warning. I was not prepared when it happened and to be honest, it was handled not at all how I think it should have been. Primal instinct or not, my trust in a person would have been lost and I would not allow that person to touch me for quite a while (if ever)
I could've done with a big, fat WARNING: Rape/Non-Con After the MC says NO/WAIT/STOP not just once but twice, and clearly does not enjoy or want what is happening, then there is no dubious consent in that scene; it clearly is a non-consensual act. That the characters gloss over what happened and fix it with a simple 'sorry' makes it unbelievably worse.
I was happy until I found out that their relationship goes into another book. I know this was book one however I thought maybe each book would be about different shifters from the Seal team. I will not carry on with these books as I don't mind a series however I don't like when a relationship like theirs is stretched through several books
I don't know why it took me so long to get to this book. It's been sitting in my kindle for more than a month. But I'm glad I finally read it. I loved it! Perhaps the ending was a little abrupt but still, I really enjoyed it!
