911 dispatcher Shay Martell takes a call one night that changes the entire course of her life. A woman is dead, and the caller tells Shay where he’s dumped the body. A week later, she takes another call from the same man. Again, he leads her to a corpse. Immediately, Shay is thrust into a nightmarish game of cat and mouse between the caller and local law enforcement. When a terrible mistake lands her on firefighter Brandon Gage’s radar, he comes down on her like a ton of bricks, nearly causing her to lose her job. Weeks later, they meet face to face and Brand realizes Shay Martell is not what she seems. Despite the bad blood between them, there’s an instant attraction. While Shay isn’t quick to forgive, Brand is determined to ease his way into her heart. In the meantime, the man police have dubbed the 911 Killer continues to terrorize the city. Soon, the sociopath becomes fixated on Shay and she finds herself in a fight just to stay alive.
Jennifer Hayden was born in Washington State. During her childhood and young adult years, she spent many hours lost in the adventures of a good book. She began writing her own stories at the age of 12 when she "ran out of books to read at the library." By the time she graduated from high school, she already had a job as a secretary/office manager, where she eventually met her husband, Mike. For the next several years, she wrote in her spare time, sharing her manuscripts with friends and family. At the urging of two good friends, she decided to go for broke and leave her secretarial career behind in pursuit of this magical literary journey. She now has 54 books available.
Having read so many of this author's books I have to say this was my least favourite. The plot was interesting enough but having the murderer so obvious in the beginning was a disappointment as in such stories it is so much better for the mysterious perpetrator to keep one guessing up until the end. This was what I was waiting for only to find there was no depth in the story at all. Three stars because the characters were interesting.
When 911 operator Shay meets firefighter Brandon for the first time, she sees red. He did try to get her fired after all. But there’s something about him that she can’t shake. When she gets the wrong kind of attention, he might be the only one that can help her. Awesome series! Super read! Enjoy!!!
I finished this series pre- Covid-19 pandemic! So, it’s been a while! I could not wait to move from one book to the other! A nail-biting (not really!), sitting on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, reading experience! To say that I totally enjoyed this series is an understatement! Already moved on to other Jennifer Hayden books!
