The story starts off immediately after the events of book 1; Pawn. I feel like the sequel really focuses on the character development of Maeve, shes goes through an emotional redemption arc, where she not only understands her flaws and overcomes them, but she sees more clearly who she is and comprehends her fate.

I love the dragon, I want to see much more of him on the next book, I loved every mention of him and how he is growing. I am hopeful for him to become an important player in the war to come as well as a great ally and friend of Maeve.

The romance between Maeve and Imer develops into strong attraction, I really enjoy the chemistry. I wish I had connected more with Imer, he is secretive and I still don't comprehend if he likes Maeve or if its pure attraction. I want to see more of him in the next book where I think his secrets and motives will be explained, he seems to be an important piece to the puzzle.

The ending was glorious and made me super excited to get my hands on the last book, with the worlds' undoing we will see if Maeve will truly become who she is meant to be!

Awesome. Maeve has to work for the Dark Fae, but falls in love with one who claims he’s not a dark fae. The characters draw you in and don’t let go. Loved every part of this book and once I started, couldn’t stop reading.

The past finds Maeve
This was another amazing book. I am really enjoying this series. I listened to the whole book in 1 day.
The characters are unique and described well. The plot interesting. There is a lot of action.
Maeve is growing into her powers, learning about her past, and finding love. The dragon is maturing also. They split up to go on their own journeys. Maeve has found all the shards. Now, the true test begins.
I recommend this book to those who like action, mixed with adventure. This is a Fae fantasy book with magic and a variety of races.

The narrator did a great job. Her voice is appealing and she does a great job differentiating each voice. I enjoyed her reading.

Maeve is remembering more of who she was as she travels in search of more shards to end her quest for the dark fae, and hopefully be granted her freedom as promised. She is still traveling in the company of Imer and Ingram, the siblings who are fire mages and grandsons of Sandrine, the scholar and Maeve knows that she is falling in love with Imer even though he is a fae. The brothers explain that not all fae are dark fae, and she takes this for truth, since the dark fae had to live underground because of their curse, whilst the brothers traveled freely during the day. They were on their way to Carn, Maeve’s own city, and she was terrified, even though she knew that the lost city had been empty for years. Once in Carn, she is forced to recollect more of her past and she realises that her people where evil and had turned on one another, and that her father, the King had sent her and her mother away supposedly to keep them safe. However, Maeve had been far from safe from thereon. They were being hunted by the hunter who Imer told her was a demon, so they went looking for both a shard and the sword of the celestials, which the brothers needed to kill hunter. Imer said that it was fated that they travel the same path together and Maeve felt relieved that she would not face her past alone. The prophecy of Erinyes said that the Celestials would return after the ongoing struggle between good and evil, light and dark ended. It was also said that with the finding and melding of the seven shards on the crown of Erinyes all curses would be broken and that is why the dark fae used Maeve as their pawn, in order to break the curse which kept them underground. Maeve saw this day as the one which would grant her, her own freedom from the cursed collar the fae had put around her neck to keep away her magical powers. However, she was concerned that though freedom would be gained the cost might be too high. She was Maeve of Carn, yet Queen of nothing, the dark fae had stolen her life, but she would make them pay for what they did to her and it was time they faced justice for their evil deeds. Can Maeve really overthrow the fae though? I just love this series and I cannot wait to read book 3 and the end to this trilogy. Maeve is a courageous heroine who is ready to face anything thrown at her, proving she is the best warrior around.

Maeve continues with her hunt for the shards. She continues to work for the dark Fae. She must work for the dark Fae if she wishes to be free. She continues her travels with Sandrine, and the two brothers, Imer and Ingram.
As Maeve travels on her journey she continues to get tidbits of her memories of what happened to her in her past. I really enjoyed this book because you can see Maeve’s character to change and grow and the book progresses. The world building is so much fun and I truly enjoyed getting lost in this world. Maeve of Carn’s story was brought to life by the narrator, Raquel. She did a fabulous job portraying Maeve as well as all the characters. She held my attention and I truly enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to the next installment to see what happens with the Dark Fae and Dragon.

Wow!!

Pawn was only a glimpse into the world, this book was the raw soul of it. Didn't think I was going to be able to finish it in a day but it was impossible to put down.

So much self discovery, surprises and action packed into one book. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Each character has depth, the world is expansive and the climax was perfect. All things I've come to expect from Angela. With each book, she visible grows as a writer and creates a drool worthy reading experience.

If you love epic adventures with deep emotionally charges characters you're going to love this series. Pure badassary.

Epic fantasy and a quest into places unknown. Maeve fights to discover herself and gains her memories and must decide what she wants to do at the end of this quest. Great characters and didn’t see that end coming. Can’t wait for the epic conclusion!

Ms. Ford is a master story teller; I was fully engrossed and didn’t want to put it down, even to sleep.

Maeve is continuing her journey to find and recover the seven shards of the crown which will break all curses to set the dark fae free to roam the world. If they honor their bargain, Maeve will be released free from their hold on her. She is accompanied by Sandrine the scholar and her fire mage grandsons, Imer and Ingram. The grandsons reveal that a demon is following the group to kill Maeve, so they must find a hidden celestial sword in order to kill the demon. Maeve is strongly attracted to Imer, but her indecision about her life goals gets in the way. She learns the brothers are fae, which further clouds the issue, but they are not cursed like the dark fae, so it might work out. She is tormented by more frequent visions revealing her early years as they get closer to the ruins of Carn, learning that her people were evil, both among themselves and to all outsiders, which led to their demise. Sandrine is becoming friendlier, especially after it becomes apparent that Maeve has decided to seek revenge on the dark fae when she is released and her magic powers are restored. Sandrine has been their prisoner for many years and knows a lot of their secrets and weaknesses, so she would be a perfect ally in the fight. Will they be able to recover all seven shards? What happens if they do? Will Maeve regain her powers, or will she and Sandrine remain prisoners or face death? If you like this genre, you owe it to yourself to read this series. I’m eager to read the finale.

Maeve of Carn

There are not enough stars to give this book, not even close. This is possibly one of the very best books I've ever read, the previous one and this. This is unlike anything I've ever read. I love Maeve, love her. I could never find words to do this justice, well written and such a freaking story, holy crap. The world is now a horror show from your worst nightmares, the Fae, who are terrifying, cruel, diabolical and evil, are about to reign down hell, along with all the creatures that have been unleashed. The next book should tell the fate of not only Maeve and the other characters but basically the world in which they all live. I despise the Fae King, may he meet a barbaric end. I cannot wait for book 3.

This book continues Maeve's story. Still working for the dark fae, Maeve journeys to the city of Carn, where she may be able to uncover the secrets of her past, and perhaps someday break the collar that binds her to them.

My favorite thing about this book was the pacing. This book has a very fast-paced plot, but there's also plenty of character development. I enjoyed the movement from one scene to the next.

However, the romance elements continued not to work for me. I didn't really feel any chemistry between Maeve and Imer (I found Sandrine's character much more compelling, and her relationship with Maeve seemed more interesting). Still, overall a fun fantasy read!

This book follows Maeve further on her quest that began in Pawn. She is gradually becoming less conflicted as she learns more about herself and her companions. She begins her journey on the path to the light. There was more action and pace in this one, you would expect that in the middle of a story, which the 2nd of a trilogy is. There are fights and magic and creatures and revelations. But still many questions and deeds left for the final book. A great read.

Enjoyed this quick fantasy read of following Maeve overcome her selfish ways in order to break the fae curse and eradicate them forever. Though there is uncertainty about the lore, she has no choice but to go along with the plan.

This book is fast paced and minimum characters which made me rate it 3 stars. However, the characters are engaging and the ending has intrigued me enough to continue on to the next.

Maeve is continuing her journey to find the shards for the crown and be released from the dark fae's control. She has found love who left her on the journey. Then when all shards are found, the underground is released, their hold on her is released but the crown is gone with the last evil dragon. Looking forward to the 3rd book.

4.5 Actual Rating

The second book in the trilogy doesn't disappoint. With just as much intrigue as the first it will have you on the edge of your seat.

Once again just when you think you've figured the story out - you are wrong. I went back and forth with what characters I was trusting, and ultimately was incorrect.

I'm definitely a fan!

Strong second jovel of trilogy

A strong second novel. The book feels complete even if the ending is a cliffhanger, i like that Maeve is unapologetically strong.
