Well, the trilogy ended powerfully. A lot of pace and tension and excitement. Will the good guys prevail? A very satisfactory ending too. I can’t say too much else without giving away the plot, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mae e of Carn. I shall be investing in more of Angela J Ford’s books. But now I’ve read 2 or 3 fantasy books in a row, it’s time for one of the crime/thrillers that have been on my shelf for months (or years!). But which one..?
So Maeve had met her quest, she had found all seven shards and built up the Crown of Erinyes, thus all curses were broken including her own, and she finally lost her collar which had enslaved her to the Dark Fae. However once all curses were broken the Dark Fae left the underground and travelled to their previous home, King Mrithun stole the crown from Maeve and brought back the Dragon Queen whilst Maeve was left with only the sword of justice. The evil ones intended bringing war to all races and started to attack and Maeve knew that as she was the last Carnite, and was being hailed as the last defender it was her duty to wage war against the forces of darkness invading their world. She saw the Gates of Hell on the Island of Hades and these were soon going to be breached and demons would start to flood the world as the Dragon Queen wanted but Maeve was hoping that with the help of the Celestials they would be able to close the gates of hell once forever. She, Imer and Ingram, the mages of Imperia including the great wizard, elves and the people from the grove and Drago the dragon Maeve had tended and befriended when he was still a baby fought a massive battle to bring the war to an end. The face off between the Dragon Queen and Maeve is awesome. I love epic sagas of good against evil and I really enjoyed the fast paced excitement as the battle reached its culmination. I loved Maeve for the kick-ass heroine she has been throughout the book but also loved seeing the change wrought in her during her search for the shards turning her into someone worth respecting. This has been a riveting series and all readers who like me, enjoy a story of redemption will surely enjoy this trilogy!
Throughout this series Maeve struggles with so much. From her selfish need to be free, to who she is, and where she came from to who to trust, and if she really is the hero the world needs. It's a fantastic ride. Her journey is heartfelt, and emotional.
This final book in the trilogy wraps up Maeve's journey in an epic battle, that had me on the edge of my seat. So many die, and Maeve has to repeatedly decide the path she wants to take, and work through her past do figure out what future she wants for herself and the world. Her internal struggles are palpable. For a girl that was thrown to the wolves at a young age, and knows nothing but battles and destruction, can she truly envision a life where she can trust freely and live in peaceful happiness?
Angela is a marvelous wordsmith, she weaves stories that are hard to put down, and suck you in so deep you will beg for more! Even though this series is over, I am dying to know more of this world and the many adventures within it.
You'll love this book if you love stories of underdogs, quests for power & for the good of the world, and the knowledge that we all have a choice in who we become no matter where we came from.
Maeve of Carn succeeded in recovering the seven shards of the Crown of Erinyes. As prophesied, all curses were broken, including Maeve’s collar. King Mrithun stole the crown, brought back the Dragon Queen and loosed the dark fae to roam the earth to prepare for war against all races. Sandrine the Scholar was killed; Maeve narrowly escaped through a portal onto the Island of Hades, where she was shown the Gates of Hell, barely withstanding the demons trying to open them. The gate keepers summoned a firebird to take her to Imperia, the city of mages, including Imer, Ingram and Jacq, the grand wizard, who were joined by the people of the grove, a contingent of elves and Drago, the last dragon, to journey to the Island of Hades for the final all-out battle in the war. Maeve was destined to meet the Dragon Queen to determine whether the Gates of Hell would be shut once and for all.
Ms. Ford is an amazing story-teller, painting beautifully detailed descriptions, crafting strong characters and using her excellent world-building skills which drew me into the story and kept me engrossed, not wanting to stop reading, even for meals. And I missed some sleep in the process, too! If you are a fan of this genre, you need to read this series, it is great! I will definitely be reading more of Ms. Ford’s writing.
Fantastic ending to a series I love so very much. Maeve of Carne is such a phenomenal character, just freaking awesome. If you've read to the end then you know what a long, hard and personal journey this was for Maeve and her unlikely friends along the way. Great tale of good against evil, real evil. I loved all the different beings in this too. Just a side note, these covers are gorgeous!!! I look forward to reading more from this author. Goodbye Maeve of Carne, I hope you find your happy ever after!!
I appreciate how Ford’s female protagonists just have strength as an inherent part of their character. It sets them apart and simply is. It isn’t treated as some sort of feminist character struggle or as though it should be surprising, it simply is. My support to that. I also like how she pushes boundaries through descriptions, but doesn’t lecture. That said, the ending felt s little slow and went on about the devine a bit.
A grande conclusion to this series. The whole series was absolutely amazing and Noble was the icing on the cake. Everything was resolved and concluded without you feeling lost. Great Series!
Angela Ford has made a fan out of me! Her writing is smooth and full of "edge of your seat" storytelling.
I was conflicted to rate this 2 or 3 star. However, as I enjoyed following Maeve, the warrior protagonist, on her final quest to bring peace back to the land, I decided on 2 stars due to the underwhelming read.
This is an extremely quick read as the plot is driven fast with no extra fuss. A lackluster ending though writing made sense even if it is condensed.
I really enjoyed the book. It has a very interesting story arc and the MC is strong and determined. This is a darker fantasy novel and I enjoyed the twists and turns. I received a copy of the book from the Author for an honest review.
Loved how fast this flowed! This series has been so full of so many different things and epic battles. This book felt a little rushed but there was so much going on. Hope to see how they rebuild a few years from the end and what becomes of Maeve’s future.
I liked the story and the world building and even some of the characters but i did not get the heroine. Hardened warrior that got sick and threw up at carnage that she made. Mmmm
Wow, what I series this has been, action a adventure all the way. Maeve is one hell of a feisty lady. Demons, gods, fae, elves, orcs etc etc. What is there not to like. This book was so good I read it in 24hrs. What will be next I wonder. Highly recommended.
Impeccable character building throughout the saga. What a journey Maeve took! I appreciate the logical ending mixed with real love. I always pick up books from the author. You can expect an EPIC fantasy story.
