A Hairy Encounter!

Thanks to the stats boost Yuna gets from her overpowered (if slightly silly) bear onesie, she’s able to pick off just about any foe. When she hears that a powerful monster has been attacking a nearby village, she quickly volunteers to check it out—maybe this monster will provide a challenge for once. But when Yuna arrives on the scene, she sees that the creature is tougher than anything she’s taken on before. Has Yuna met her match?

It's not easy being a person trapped in a bear suit in a fantasy world.

Having gotten fairly settled in her new bear house and comfortable with doing bear suit things with her twin bear companions Kumakyu and Kumayuru, Yuna tries to stay active. She's become somewhat of a novelty in the area, though, and catches the eye of a local lord...'s daughter. After that, she helps a young boy save his village and orphans eat another day. Not bad for a girl in a bear suit!

I thought this one was a bit....I won't say lame, because I still enjoyed it greatly, but not as strong as the first two volumes. The stories were kind of same-y in my opinion, though I'm interested to see where this orphanage angle goes. I'm still really entertained by the premise! This just wasn't one of the stronger volumes, I think.

Might be the weakest out of the three volumes I've read, but that's not saying much as I really liked it and will still give it a 5.

Art: The art felt a little weaker in this volume, I feel like there were too many simplized shots (ex the reaction shots). I still think the character designs are good though. There weren't many panels that really caught my eye in this one. There was one little detail that I really liked- the use of speech bubbles to purposely cover stuff. For example covering half Yuna's breakfast to reveal in another panel the contents that are a surprise to her. It's really clever.

Character: There are some new characters. They are pretty strong and well written (ex Kai and Cliff). I like Cliff's personality, he doesn't feel like a tropey noble. I also really like Yuna's kind but cynical personality.

Story: The story is still good in this, just not too special. It wasn't as fun as the last 2 though, so that's why I think it's the weakest. There are some really sweet moments from Yuna, example the last arc and the first arc. The big monster of the volume wasn't too special for me as there was stakes and a sense of dread set up, but you could predict the outcome. I do think the magic was a little lack luster in this one, but the worldbuilding was great. For example the food in the new world isn't the exact same as our world. There are some nice little cheesey life lessons sprinkled in the last arc.

Overall while a very good volume, compared to the last two's high bar it left a little to be desired.

In this volume, Yuna helps Fina's family get to a more stable position, she decides to go and see if she can help a village with a black viper problem, she meets the local lord and his daughter, and she stumbles on an orphanage in town in dire need of help.

As this series goes on I'm liking Yuna more and more. I love her heart to help others that gets front and center in this volume. The ways she helps the struggling family, the village, and the orphans were each inspirational. The thing about chickens was a bit humorous. There's a little ongoing mystery hinted at with the local lord that future volumes will undoubtedly explore. Recommended for gamers who need their heart strings tugged on a little.

Notes on content: Maybe 3 minor swears (I really don't remember that many). No sexual content. There's a scene with the ladies of Fina's family and Yuna in a steam bath but it is all tactfully drawn. The run-in with the viper gets a little violent (but it is more old fashioned superhero style with "Kapow" and things symbolizing injuries. It is related that the giant snake has killed several people already, but none of that on page. The poor orphans are in dire straights food-wise.

Loved the Bear Fire attack! So cute. I love that Yuna is helping the community, not just by fighting beasts but improving things. Meanwhile, the bonus manga at the back with Kumayuru so pleased about the butterfly on his head, much to Kumakyu's annoyance.. It is so adorable and those four panels are just heart-warming.

Yuna has a big heart and wants to be sure that everyone in her life is taken care of. She also finds that there's aspects of the world, especially politics, that don't sit right with her. The characters are growing and moving forward.
