High schoolers (and stepsisters) Yuzu and Mei have gone public with their relationship! The two are happy to be dating out in the open, but friends and family keep trying to butt in with advice. Can Yuzu and Mei figure things out on their own? The return of the modern yuri classic!
Comments After watching Sailor Moon anime, she started drawing at the age of 7.
Influences when she was young: CLAMP (Card Card Captor Sakura, X), AMANO Kozue (Aira, Aqua), WATASE Yuu (Fushigi Yugi), SUGISAKI Yukiru (1001 Knights).
Got into the yuri genre through "Pretty Cure" (especially the chapter 8).
Strength: drawing close-up facial expressions and hair arrangement.
Weakness: drawing small pictures.
Among the sources used as inspiration for her work: watching movies, reading manga, doujinshi, erotica artwork targeted for male audience (like NARUKO Hanaharu's manga).
Her drawing tools: PC, Wacom Cintiq24, program ComicStudio, pencils.
Honestly I loved the new characters introduced in this volume. And I loved Sayaka’s narrative. This one wasn’t so much about the meiyuzu love, but about the subject of new possibilities within lgbt contexts.
worst character ever, i hate you Sayaka. I could instantly tell her pixie cut ass was closeted. Also the matsuri hate was making me mad. #matsurifanclub till I die. Harumin being worried about Matsuri once everyone else graduates was so sweetie and also a feeling I have experienced before in highschool. them fighting was horrible as hell and now Matsuri is ghosting kill me now. Also let me get this straight, Mei is ENGAGED to Yuzu and can't tell her "i love you" bitch dont piss me off. I get not wanting for the school to know but THIS IS THE BARE MINIMUM!!! Matsuri is so right, like Yuzu is gonna be a goddamn grandma before anything happens between them.
It’s another instalment of the ongoing romance between Yuzu and the frozen mackerel otherwise known as her stepsister Mei. In addition to the usual won’t they-won’t they, a new short-haired problem looms on the horizon, somebody who isn’t happy with all the changes at the school...
Boy, the art in this series is straight up immaculate. Seriously, this is one of the best looking manga I’m reading. This book juggles a series of characters who are all distinct and recognizable and it’s something I’ve seen other books struggle with, so a little shout out to being able to tell everybody apart at a glance.
Given how daft the original series’ ending was and that Mei and Yuzu wear one another’s rings, you’d think that Mei might be a little more affectionate by this point. I know the book’s angle is that she’s very reserved still, but while that certainly leads to some sweet moments (the bed scene is nice and understated) it’s bad enough that the book actually drags itself in one particularly accurate joke (the reactions of the other girls and the ‘gong’ sound effect nail this one).
But the focus is more Mei and Yuzu adjacent this time and, hey, that’s okay. There’s a lot of interesting stuff to be done with these side characters - a testament the benefit of having a solid supporting cast in your series. Harumin and Mizusawa are always fun and I think Mizusawa is the spice this series needs.
Then there’s the main plot arc involving Sayaka, the aforementioned short-haired junior. You can kind of see where it’s going from the start, but I was surprised at how they ended up handling her story and demands.
On the one hand, it lacks the overwrought melodrama the series is known for, going for a slightly more subtle approach (not too subtle, it’s still Citrus after all), but it’s still quite satisfying. There’s a really nice denouement and a particularly vicious confrontation after somebody sticks their nose in and causes things to escalate.
I’m not saying it’s a superbly written piece - plotting has never been this series’ strong suit - but it’s certainly a welcome development to see the author at least trying to do something other than Citrus’ usual lurid antics. It’s both good and a good start and I think that’s more than enough.
There’s certainly a bit of danger in where things stand right now that the story is going to turn into one of those where everybody pairs off with everybody and it’s yuri couples all around, which feels a bit unrealistic, even if I could totally see Harumin and Mizusawa getting together (dammit, now I’m doing it!).
A very solid entry. It takes a different road through what I thought would be a predictable story and while it might not quite stick the landing, I give it a lot of credit for trying. It’s probably a 3.5 star read this time, but just barely so no rounding up. Still, I do like the suggestion that this series might evolve away from what Citrus started as into something better.
I love Yuzu more in this and how she is respecting Mai's choices more. I adored how she's using her experience to help others. I cant wait to see these characters grow more.
We've got a series about Yuzu and Mei and yet have another volume where next to nothing happens between them but the waters are muddled by another character and her relationship problems. Had Yuzu and Mei actually moved forward at all this might be acceptable. Otherwise, it is just a distraction from their story. I was really hoping that Citrus + would get beyond the the stagnation of the original series. I have been sorely disappointed in this.
Verdict: If you want to keep seeing Yuzu and Mei not getting anywhere then Citrus + is the series for you.
Can't stop reading this book. Highly recommend continuing this series. The love for these characters and breaking the bearers for same sex love is amazing.
Me gustó éste segundo tomo 'plus'.
