I was educated at Oxford University where I read English at Magdalen. I've written about books and film for 20 years, at one point writing three weekly columns for The Independent newspaper. I've written an opera libretto, performed at the Almeida Theatre in 1993, and a wrote a book of poetry when I was a student. I was for two years the UK London correspondent for the Zagat food guides. 'Ghosts' is a return to a subject that fascinated me as a child.

I’m a fan of short story collections it’s like a literary pic’n’mix of stories. Most of the writers here are new, with a sprinkling of more established published authors. There were a few stories that stood out. The ones that were more surreal I found the strongest. In particular one about a tipp-ex killer and a clever story about being a writer. The rest were okay, not particularly engaging or interesting. Found some new writers here that I’d be interested to see more of.
