A bumper collection of facts about video games from YouTuber extraordinaire, Larry Bundy Jr, this book will debunk myths and urban legends, delve into developers' biggest successes and failures, explore the odd characters behind the games and unearth the obscure, the forgotten, the cancelled and the abandoned aspects of the gaming world. For the past decade, Larry has painstakingly trawled through countless old magazines, routinely harassed developers, and blackmailed journalists to uncover these amazing tidbits and anecdotes that would have fallen by the wayside of history. Now he has compiled them into a fun, full-colour book with sections on botched game launches, pointless peripherals, unreleased video game movies, weird guest fighters and much, much more.Along the way, he has invited a few famous gaming guests, including Stuart Ashen and Did You Know Gaming?, to provide their favourite quips for your personal perusal. So whatever your level of knowledge about video games, you’re guaranteed to learn a ton of entertaining new information.
A definite must read for any video game history fan . I have good knowledge on the subject but still found out some new things about the history of my primary source of entertainment. There is someone for everyone and a you can see a lot of hard work definitely went into the production of this book .
The reason for 4 stars is the appealing digital copy ( which I rate at 1 star ) . Very low resolution for whatever reason but still readable . If you can pick up the physical copy of the book , else buy the digital but know the aforementioned shortcomings .
Few errors within the book such as Bulletstorm stated as being released in 2014 but in reality released in 2011 but other than that, it was a very entertaining book to read and I hope for a sequel
As a fan of Larry Bundy Jr and a video game fanatic I just had to buy this book. I remember sneaking down to the living room and putting on the TV as a kid and flicking to the Challenge channel on Sky to watch reruns of Larry's show late at night(it's larry's fault I was yelled at by my parents :P haha) which were always filled with such interesting facts about games.
I didn't think about Larry's show for years until I found out he had a Youtube channel so I ploughed through all his videos which are absolutely fantastic and hilarious, Larry really knows his stuff. When I heard Larry was writing a book I immediately supported it on Unbound and received my hardcover but it gathered dust for a few months due to college(Always a pain) but when I finally decided to read it I was hooked.
I loved the facts in this book as I haven't heard of over half of them and I'm a video game fanatic! Larry really did his research and it shows in this book, a lot of these facts made me think Larry must have lost the plot completely after finding all the facts to fill this 300 page book. I strongly recommend that you check out Larry's videos and this book, he is a very witty character and is an absolute hive of video game information.
If you're reading this Larry keep up the good work, looking forward to Fact Hunt 2 :D
This is pretty much what you would expect - a collection of list videos in book form, complete with full colour photographs. Turn installer very similar to Larry's efforts on YouTube, so if you enjoy those this should be a treat.
I've not a star off because I would have liked to see a few more "deep dives" interspersed amongst the very short list entries. And not all of the guest spots hit the mark for me.
Regardless, there is a wealth of content to devour here and it is relayed in an entertaining manner.
Finally got around to this one. Been a fan of the YT channel for years but somehow held off on this one. Fantastic book, just as high quality as the show and while I recognize quite a few stories from the show (nontheless nice to have them in an accessible format) there were also a significant number of stories that have not made it to a video and were very fascinating. If you are a fan of the YT show, or just interested in the subject matter in general, I highly recommend this.
An insightful and funny book. Unfortunately, it's not suitable for Kindle format, due to huge images and small text. The physical version is a must-read though.
