Shanghai trip sex. Summer sex. New house. For sex. A pool. With sex. Sex with an extra side of sex. Sex sex sexity sex sex sex. To be sextinued. In the sex volume.
Sex doesn’t have to be especially meaningful, but it should mean something (even ‘hey, let’s go’ counts) and Yuri and Oya go that extra mile this time out by making it boring. This relationship has nothing to it but sex, based on this ridiculously short entry.
By essentially focusing on nothing but said sex, you give the impression that these two pretty much do not exist when they aren’t getting down and dirty. I was hardly invested before but this is so plodding.
And stakes? Forget it. Yuri wants to hit the beach but they can’t because of Oya’s tattoos and there is a whole storyline in that…. Unless he just buys them a place in the mountains with a pool so they can use it for two minutes and then head to bone (sorry, I am running out of polite metaphors).
In a lot of manga, sex comes as a culmination of a long (typically overlong) courtship between characters we care about. Here the sex is frequently a culmination of them just having had sex and going back for more. It’s the entree before the main course, but they’re both sex.
It reminds me of a child asking to eat cake everyday and thinking that’s a good idea. This absolutely doesn’t work when the rare story beat feels like the cathartic moment.
Then again, I doubt I will laugh harder this week at anything else after the love bites (it sure does, har har!) bonus manga where these two spend a day essentially chowing down on one another, which literally caused me to bark out loud.
This story leads to a hilarious full spread of Yuri looking like she’s got a case of eczema out of (ironically) a dermatologist’s wet dream. It in no way achieves the effect it’s going for and I found it practically embarrassing.
Look, I know who this is for. You want your somewhat innocent and scrappy heroine and her relationship with a bad boy who has a frisson of danger but treats her right when he isn’t being subtly terrifying. If you want that, this is your series, and more power to you - I’m glad your desires are being catered to, seriously.
2 stars - all this rampant sex basically feels like the brain activity recorded during a coma. It is excruciatingly dull and I think I can safely say this is my limit for this series’ vibe.
This is the very definition of "pwp," and after the "love bites" thing - which looked more like they'd both come down with the measles - my debate is whether it's worth it to keep reading simply for the sake of showing that manga aimed at adult women is viable in English.
I have noticed that each volume following the first one has left me more and more disappointed. There's not much to this couple beyond their connection in the bedroom, which personally, is not really my thang. It'll be fun for one volume maybe but I get tired of it quickly and them banging isn't enough to hold my interest. This volume in particular seemed to have nothing going on aside from them fondling in the bedroom other than a brief dip in the pool. There is an addition of bondage in here though, I will say that.
And listen, I'm a gal that enjoys a lil smut from time to time but I need something from the characters as well - aside from their lust - and I'm just not getting much else here. So it's a no from me. One volume was fun but going this long with just two horny characters and no real plot ain't it for me.
(Also, I know I said I loved Yuri and her spunk in the beginning however, she is all consumed in Oya to the point it honestly irritates me. Am I just cold-hearted this week? Not in the headspace for love? Maybe. But I'm just not feeling the passion here. It feels like plain 'ole thirst. Which of course is primarily the intention here I guess but I digress.)
I continue to really enjoy this series. This volume was a bit of a break from the dramatics of the previous volume, and we get to focus in on the couple more, and their desperate love for each other. The next volume is clearly going to amp up again, so I am excited. As always, these contain quite a bit of sex, and I really enjoy that in this manga.
I think I'm giving up on this series. Between the last one and this volume, there was no plot! I’m all for some sexy scenes, but you gotta give me something else. There wasn't any character development or anything. I'm still trying to figure out how he gets any work done with the amount of time they spend going at it.
I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
This installment knocked it out of the park! This was sexy and it was sweet and it gave feelings. I don’t think that I expected it to run this deep and in this installment we really do see that. Also we get an inkling of something to come, so that’s gonna be fun. I’m so invested in this world now, and I cannot wait to continue.
This entire volume was just smut. There was no plot. I didn't see the cover because I was reading it on the Viz Media App, but after seeing the cover, it checks out with how there was nothing here, but Oy and Yuri going to Bone Town.
I really do enjoy this series. Each of the volumes up until this one are usually full of drama, however in this volume we got to see more of the couple and their desperate love for each other. However, I did feel like it dragged just a touch. I feel like the dramatics are going to pick back up in the next volume and I’m ready for it.
This volume has been called the spiciest one yet, and I agree but that's not why I loved this. This romance is so well written. I'm so in love with these characters. The aching and longing in this series continues to fuel my love for it. I just want these two to be happy. I haven't read a Yakuza story this good since Twittering Birds Never Fly. I highly recommend it.
I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Edelweiss and VIZ Media for this opportunity.
Oh boy. What's happened to this series? The first one was full of mystery and intrigue, the second our heroine was reduced to a whiny crybaby, and this volume is just 100% smut. I guess it's good that Oya and Yuri have a great sex life, but it was too much in this volume. This makes me a little hesitant to keep going with this series, but I probably will out of dire curiousity.
I love how this reads like a smutty NA romance except make it manga. Honestly there is like almost zero plot and it was all smut but I loved every minute of it so I cannot complain. I love how soft Oya is for Yuri even though she's a little ridiculous at time.
If you’re looking for a well developed story that has a great plot this isn’t the book for you. This I a book you read just to enjoy there’s nothing complicated it’s just a spicy book to sate some yakuza fantasies. Before you read it check your inner feminist at the door because the gender roles in this are very stereotypical female and male roles. It was nice to finally see the male MC finally show his darker side to the female MC especially in a bedroom setting 😏. Can’t wait for the next volume because this series is just a perfect read for those long hard days.

Thank you to VIZ Media, Shojo Beat NetGalley, for allowing me to continue to read this manga series in exchange for my honest opinion.
Domestic life is so cute in spicy mafia romance!
Also, I realized I am such a sucker for this, the main guy looks like Kyoya from Ouran High school Host club, and I will never be mad about that. I wish we could add more plot as it was so interesting to get a glimpse, and I want more!
Today’s post is on Yakuza Lover, vol 3 by Nozomi Mino. It is 176 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. As it is the third volume in the series you need to have read the first two to understand the plot. The cover has Yumi and Oya together with Oya holding a sword on it. There is mild foul language, lots sex and sexuality, and no violence in this novel. The story is told from first person close of the main character, Yumi. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the dust jacket- Reunited at last, Oya and Yuri savor their first night back in each other’s arms by making love until Yuri faints from exhaustion. Later, Yuri returns to her normal life in Japan, but it isn’t long before Oya comes to pick her up. He’s prepared a private villa for the two of them to relive their summertime romp together. But it soon becomes clear that Oya has been hiding something from Yuri.
Review- We start where the last volume left off with Oya returning to Yuri after fighting with the other mob guy and that is the most plot in this volume, with one short section about Yuri’s job. The rest of the volume is them being together. They do some talking about their relationship and just living in the present but most of this volume is them just having sex. The art is good, the story is still the weak part of the manga but the characters are interesting and I like seeing them together and happy but we see someone else becoming interested in Yuri for some reason and I am sure that will be the drama for the next few volumes.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this series with my own money.
I have accepted my fate: I’m thoroughly entertained. But for a book like this, don’t look for much of a plot, though it’s sprinkled in here and there. It’s really just young girl josei showing the fantasy of having a rich, hot, sweet, and sometimes dangerous yakuza boyfriend. The downside is that when it DOES court some type of plot, the themes are actually quite good, with a lot of promise. It’s just that the follow through can be either super crime lite, super easy, or just “we’ve had enough of this, let’s hurry up and get back to the lovemaking already”. If you truly want to enjoy this book and series, don’t expect the plot teases to amount to anything, let go of your expectations, and just enjoy the art, the food, the luxury, and the cute love story / lukewarm smut. If you’re looking for a dose of pure escapism with no pressure to hold onto details, or even common sense at times, this is the ride for you! I already bought up to book 7, and I have every intention on snacking on this series until I’m done!
Yeah, this series should just be a bonus feature on Porn Hub (interestingly, there was a live action series made...). But that's kinda the point? Smutty times with a hint of insight to our characters (love that Yuri straight up tells Oya she's unsure how to feel about all this newfound spoiling-the man whisked them away to a secluded house and offers her keys?!-and Oya admits that given the near death experience on his end and the kidnapping bit on hers, he wasn't sure she'd even speak to him again. This perhaps this is his love language... well his and 🫦🫦😜😏). Will we get deeper (No pun intended) Maybe. Till then, four stars because.... escapism, baby! But not a full five because that nearly gagged scene made me uncomfortable. Yuri seemed genuinely scared when she felt the ribbon over her mouth. That's a yikes 🤮.

I feel like I need to say something about this volume. I actually like vol 1 and 2 very much and looked forward to continue the series. This however is a disappointment. There is nothing going on. It’s a pure volume of smut. I don’t say smut is bad, I just think that the story could have moved on a little bit more than it did. I mean, it didn’t move at all so that wouldn’t be hard to achieve. It’s still an ok volume if you like smut. Had I not bought vol 4 and 5 at the same time I would probably have ended it here. Fortunately I did because it gets better. At least vol 4 because that’s how far I’ve read when writing this. So don’t give up just yet will you. It still has potential.
Oya is finaly back after helping Yuri out of a tight spot while they were on vacation together. The summer is still on and the two are looking to make best of the time they have.
So I'm not quite sure what happened once I started I flew through the book. It was mostly sexy scenes but then theres Yuri trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the summer with Oya's limitations of being a boss of the yakuza but luckily he got them a private villa to live and enjoy eachother a bit more freely. Overall really good manga I really enjoyed it but hope for more to the story then just the sexy scenes.
Yuri and Oya’s romance is thrilling. They are both revolving around each other but we see glimpses of reality moving in. Looking forward to the next story arc. I have seen several negative comments regarding this manga. Perhaps people do not understand the genre. This is a Josie, not smut. The first first arc had boy meets girl. Boy and girl become lovers. Girl is threatened and boy saves her. Boy makes love nest for girl. The first arc was about passionate new love. Now that the scene has been set and a new character was introduced, I am sure the next arc will be more complicated. I am so happy to see all the new Josie titles being published in English.
Very very adult material. Do not read unless you are down for several sexy scenes and mention of violence. It’s kind of in the name :p Now that that’s clear; Where can I sign up to be Yuri? I wish I had read the first two installments to have more to go on but this gives a bit of a flashback so the reader does have some idea of what’s going on. I like it.. there’s nothing really wrong with it.. at the same time I don’t find myself needing to binge read it. Definitely check it out if you’re into bad boy meets good girl spicy love stories
So far, this is the weakest volume. It does not move the plot at all nor add anything to Oya and Yuri's relationship, which only revolves around sex; that's all this volume is. However, I am going to continue following because I am curious about the next possible antagonist, which we catch a glimpse of at the very end. Hopefully, this antagonist doesn't disappoint and there are less love bites in the future....that was gross.
