Persistent pushy salesmen beware- children's book exposes empty promises. Many a cartoon hunting child has stumbled upon infomercial channels, mesmerised by images of the buff abs they never knew they needed. Thank goodness for this book- bright bouncing bubbles and all. It's never to early to get the critical thinking primed. And humour does it best.

This is a nice book about a Bear and a Hamster who think they need new things because they are being advertised as better than what they currently have. Bear keeps replacing things he likes with 'better' items until he realises this isn't making him happy. This story has a nice message of being happy with what you have. This would be a fun read-aloud story for younger children and there would be lots of opportunities for discussions and predictions to take place.

Such a great book for older elementary kids (1st grade +) or for the benefit of parents with younger kids. Bear watches a commercial which makes him think he needs a better bed, and the "wanting more and better" snowballs from there. So cute and fun.

Perfect for a mystery reader visit or read aloud with any group. Follow Bear as he gets sucked into Sneaky Beak’s sales pitches and ends up discovering he most values the things (friends) he already had. Have a kid who always wants the newest whatever? Read this book!

A book that could be fun if read with the right voices aloud. For older kids. It could be a good discussion on consumerism and being happy with what you have.

The amount of water when he pressed the button in the bath was enormous. How did they get the house sorted to have breakfast? Not realistic at all

In a twist on the classic Goldilocks tale, Bear and Hamster are living the good life and are fairly content. But a wily salesman keeps convincing Bear that he needs the latest gadget to improve his quality of living. After listening to Sneaky Beak's spiel, he ends up buying the Snores-Galore Mega Bed for more bounce, the Super-Whirl Turbo Tub for increased bubbles, the Crunch-O-Matic Granola Maker to prevent soggy foods, and even takes a vacation on a rocket. Young readers will get a kick out of how Bear is doubtful that he needs these items at first and then changes his mind because he thinks that his life could be improved with them. But each time the new products disappoint him or cause problems, and he realizes that life was just fine as it was, before he made those purchases. The ending in which Sneaky Beak makes one more bid for a sale will amuse readers. I loved the message in here that money or a new gadget won't necessarily lead to happiness and just might cause more problems than they are worth.
