1726 was a defining year for America. 1776 would never have happened apart from 1726. The Great Awakening that began that year transformed Colonial America and laid the spiritual, moral, and philosophical foundations for the beginning of a great new nation. It also unleashed the anti-slavery sentiments and moral outrage that eventually brought about slavery’s demise in America. The late Harvard professor, Perry Miller, was correct in saying, “The Declaration of Independence of 1776 was a direct result of the preaching of the evangelists of the Great Awakening.” The Great Awakening of which he speaks began in 1726. This is the story of America that has been censured from modern textbooks. It is the story of the faith and spiritual vision of those who brought this nation into existence.

This is an awesome book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It presents not only a Christian perspective on the history of the United States of America, but it also presents how the Good News of the Gospel effected the USA to move her to righteousness. There is a proverb that says, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is an approach to any people." King Solomon.
Because of the Christian influence and what they had learned through the history of nations, our nation's founders were able to draft the most remarkable document regarding nation and freedom: The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. Through Christian influence slavery was eventually abolished. Through further Christian influence with a clear understanding of the Bible our nation can continue to thrive.
Too often our history is told in a way that supports a political agenda. It is important to know our national history, if we are to realize and appreciate that which the founding fathers gave us. Our heritage is rich with virtue. The challenge for today requires building anew upon the firm foundation we were given.
