I found myself completely drawn into to this epic fantasy with dragons, sorceresses, evil kings, and fierce family loyalty. There are lots of characters in BROKEN and different storylines going on. The sorceresses have magic and some have the ability to time travel. One sorceress takes an orphan human, Damien, to another time period. He later becomes king, and also becomes obsessed with finding another sorceress. Caitlin, another sorceress, leaves her order and finds love with a human man, but is hunted because of her powers. She and her son Joshua are separated from her daughter and husband in order to keep them safe. I really enjoyed the complex plotting and way that just when I was sure I thought I knew what direction the story might be going in… nope, it surprised me again! This had epic battles, a great love story, a wonderfully feisty horse, and a sister who is willing to sacrifice everything for a sibling. Some really great themes. Just a wonderful fantasy tale and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

Author Ivy Logan does a wonderful job with this fast paced story. I had to stay up late to finish it because I couldn’t put it down. So much love in this book along with such evil. If you become as invested in these characters like I did, you’re going to need tissues. I was rooting for Caitlin and her family from the beginning. I really loved the twists!
I loved this story and can’t wait until the next one comes out. I highly recommend this book and author.

Welcome to my world where anything is possible or is it? A masterfully written tale that takes you to another world where the fight is real! Would you choose love over ambition? Logan, in my opinion, delivers a very engaging tale with a litany of characters that are, quite often, at odds-each in pursuit of that which ,in part, is lacking in their lives. However, their journey into the realm of the ‘supernatural’ where evil versus ‘good’, challenges our characters at every turn. I truly, moreover, appreciated the strong female heroines. A fantastic journey that will have you totally immersed! (I was fascinated by the development of plot and the emergence of each character, most especially, for me, Heichi Sorceresses! But, Talia ranked up there as well)! Most highly recommended!

A prince, a dragon, a fearless warrior named Talia- what more could you want from a book? Broken by Ivy Logan is one of those books you can't put down. An exceptional story with exceptional characters who you grow to love and root for. I also love happy endings, thank you, Ivy Logan.
At first, I found it hard to connect with the story but after reading through a few pages, I was hooked. The main character, Talia is a fierce warrior who puts family above all else. "Talia has always put her family before herself, no sacrifice too great." This line in the book describes Talia perfectly. She is loyal, selfless, and determined. A true heroine.
I highly recommend this love story for any age. It will inspire all generations, from young to old, to believe they can overcome great obstacles in life if they stand strong and firm in their convictions. Talia is a wonderful example of what happens when perseverance and love rise to the challenge of any situation. Love conquers all. 5 heartwarming stars for Broken. Good job, Ivy Logan.

BROKEN is a YA fantasy that would make a great book for a book club to discuss. It pulls the reader into a fascinating world of magic and sorcery while addressing the idea of choices and where they lead.
This story is about a young half-blood sorceress named Talia. However, Talia’s roots and future are anchored in her mother’s story. Her mother, Caitlin, is an immortal and a sorceress who sprang forth from a well of creation. She emerges fully grown and ready to take on her duties as a guardian of Earth’s humans. However, before Caitlin has a chance to perform her duties, she’s given a prophecy about her future. It’s not a nice prophecy, but one that activates instant fear and confusion.
For me, this story had so many elements to ponder and discuss. For example, is the prophecy that Caitlin is told destined to come true? Is there any free will involved in such a foretelling? Is Caitlin a victim who’s doomed to failure? Do the things she was told have to become her reality? Or does the prophecy come true because of all the fear that arises in Caitlin when she believes what she’s been told? Instead of seeking advice from her peers or a wise, look-alike named Ava, Caitlin keeps her fears to herself. Would she have benefited from the advice of others who had more life experience?
Because of an all-consuming fear, Caitlin’s choices revolve around what she wants to avoid in the future. Without the fear, how would her life have turned out? And what about her love of family? It was because of her love for her son and the fear of his being harmed that she empowers an evil king. In turn, the powerful, but evil king ends up slaughtering countless people.
This is a wonderful fantasy that would make a great book for a book club to discuss. It’s also a well written tale that takes the reader on a journey that involves a demented king, a dragon, and the tight bonds of love and family. It’s about Talia, the daughter of Caitlin, who’s determined to make better choices than her mother. She’s also determined to confront her fears and find a path to a life that’s full of love and fulfillment. The ending was unexpected and very satisfying.

An enchanted tale...
...of an evil prophecy through the eyes of a mother and daughter.
We start the story of BROKEN with Caitlin as she's born from a well of creation. As she's to be tasked as a protector of Earth, Wraiths arrive with the message of a prophecy.
I don't want to get too spoiler-ish, but I will say, it falls into some of my favorite story elements and tropes of regardless of what precautions are taken or choices are made, will a particular outcome (in this case a prophecy) still come to pass?
As Caitlin does what she can to avoid this prophecy, she falls in love and has a family...
...and this story masterfully starts through the eyes of a mother and transitions to the story through the lens of a coming-of-age tale through her daughter. As the elements of the above-mentioned prophecy continue to fall into place no matter what precautions Caitlin takes, her daughter, Talia, will also have to deal with this.
A story of family, romance, love, heartache, and tragedy.
The reader will love it.
I loved the strong heroines presented through Cailtin and Talia. Capable, smart, resourceful. They were no damsels in distress.
This is definitely a recommended read for fantasy lovers!

Absolutely Beautiful Book, this is my first book by Ivy Logan and I have to say definitely not the last, I will be friendly stalking for the release of each book she writes.
I won't give spoilers, what I will say that this story is fantastic on many levels, there are lots of twists and turns, that very much have you rushing on into the next page just to see how our beloved characters are doing, and how we can cheer them on. I've not read another book similar it's very much original in its realm which makes me love it even more.

I just finished reading BROKEN and I'm in awe!! So brilliant, fascinating, and well written! Ivy Logan’s book is magical not only because it is entertaining, full of twists and turns, but also because fundamental truths transpire behind the fairy tale.
The whole story is about weaknesses and strengths: it made me understand that a "strong woman" doesn't have to be a muscular or masculine woman, quite the contrary. A strong woman is someone who's, like Talia, is loving, independent and passionate (being independent doesn't mean that we don't need someone, only that we are determined to preserve our dignity.
Even when you think you’re broken, love helps to rise again. Oh, I know, there’s nothing new here, however Ivy’s tale expresses clearly and brilliantly this very idea. Fiction helps to better understand real life! FIVE STAR

Broken is a fascinating novel revolving around the supernatural world with the Heichi Sorceresses as the main focus.
During the purge where the humans and supernatural are in battle, Ava, a sorceress does an act of kindness which ultimately changes everything.
Caitlin is a newly born sorceress, and a guardian of the veil between earth and the parallel supernatural world. With her a prophecy is born. Ignoring this prophecy would upset the natural balance. She is a powerful sorceress and does her best to stop the prophecy from coming true. When Michael comes on the scene, she listens to her heart and does the opposite of what she isn’t supposed to do, triggering the prophecy. Ava's kindness backfires and Caitlin ends up in a harrowing situation. As a consequence, her daughter Talia's happiness is threatened. King Damien is driven by the greed for power and will stop at nothing to use Talia for his benefits. Will he succeed or will fate save the day? The consequences of keeping secrets prove to be costly!
The family values are at the forefront and sacrifices are made. Despite, the numerous disheartening events, love conquers. This is a very well crafted story with well developed characters. It's innovative and captivating. It would appeal to readers of all ages.

Broken is a fantastic novel, following the life of Caitlin, a sorceress, and her half-human daughter, Talia. Reading it took me on a well-crafted old-school, fantasy journey that kept my interest on every page. It was so refreshing to read a story with interesting, three-dimensional female leads who don’t solely rely on sword/magic-wielding techniques in order to be strong, likeable and brilliant. Their intellect, decision-making, and compassion had me championing them through every chapter.
Well written and thought out, this is a story of good and evil, trust and betrayal, love and loss, that can be enjoyed by all ages. It went beyond the girl meets boy romance trope, with subtle moralistic conundrums and struggles that are beautifully, seamlessly, and passionately conveyed.
For me, a good fantasy story (of any sub-genre) should be intricate, well-built, thought-provoking, and easy to follow. This book ticked all of those boxes.
I’d recommend ‘Broken’ for both fantasy lovers and newbies to the genre. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!

"Broken" is a cleverly written, and enchanting high fantasy with strong, likeable, female protagonists. I love the journal entries from Talia foreshadowing each chapter. Logan’s writing style is unique and appealing. The world-building is super, and the characters are flawed but lovable. The twists and turns throughout the book kept my attention, and sometimes left me bereft. The pacing of the book is excellent, keeping the reader engaged. Each snippet from Talia kept me turning the pages and wanting to know more.
I ladore the fact that the theme of the book is love and bonds; parent and child, brother and sister, or romantic love. But can these bonds can surpass any hurdle thrown in the way of the characters? Love is a catalyst for a series of events that affect the lives of Caitlin, the mother, and Talia, her daughter. Is love worth risking everything for? You will need to read the book to find out.

Reading this book, I immediately fell in love with the empathy, struggles and kindness that fell upon Caitlin and Talia. While one sacrifices so much for her daughter and husband, the other sacrifices so much for her family and brother. Together though separated, they embark on the broken pieces of love with faith and grace, leaving the reader with a pure sense of imagination, fantasy and a reality that all things broken are not always lost. Ivy Logan did amazing writing with her words to bring one girl's memoir into majestic mystical worlds of sorcerers, dragons, Kings, Queens and how the human heart is no different than those before us. A definite must read for everyone who wants to escape to a world where even the broken thrive.

Eventually, the weight of her curse falls upon her daughter's shoulders, Talia. A brave and loving girl, forced to become a woman sooner than she should have. But she embraces her fate head on, with grace and courage despite the threat.

A beautifully written and thoroughly engaging first book in a new fantasy series. Broken, is a wonderful introduction and I’m really looking forward to reading more! The author, Logan, introduces us to strong female characters, who are not only endearing but intelligent, capable and likeable. Without giving away spoilers, first there is Caitlin, who finds herself with a difficult decision. Next her daughter, Talia is also tasked with hard choices. The male characters in the book are rounded and well-written also. I loved the pacing of the story too, as it kept me reading without giving me a heart attack. I’m really looking forward to the next book!

Strong women and epic adventures? Yes, please. Add in some solid writing and beautiful relationships, and you’ve got yourself a very satisfying story. Lots of characters in this one (not my go-to but I followed) adding layers to the overall story, so if you like an ensemble cast of kickass women, be sure to check this one out!

The opening prologue sets the scene: The Purge, a great war between humans and supernaturals ended with the supernaturals forced to live in a parallel realm called Htrae. The two worlds are now guarded by members of the Heichi clan, who are powerful sorceresses.
A young human boy was rescued during the war by the sorceress Ava, and taken to a safe place in the future. She didn’t know that this small boy harboured evil which would later threaten their kind.
Years later, Caitlin, a new guardian sorceress, was born from the well of creation; however, her birth was tainted by a prophecy warning her not to fall in love. She shut herself away from her sisterhood, but life was lonely and her gift of pure love led danger to her family and her own downfall.
The sorceresses in this book have vibrant blue hair, it was a bold choice from the author and I loved its various descriptions that were sprinkled throughout the story. Each chapter includes a short letter from a girl called Talia; early on we know she is trapped somewhere. The letters gave me hints and snippets and made me yearn for more details, so kept me engaged; the style worked well for this book. I particularly enjoyed how the author effortless created pictures in my mind of both the characters and the settings. The fantasy world was well thought out and quite believable. A very good start to a series.

Broken is a beautiful story; it's descriptive and fun. Talia is intense and emotional. I can visualize her every move inside my head; her character is written well. It's a fast-paced book, and I recommend it to everyone.

Synopsis:
The damage was done not by an act of cruelty, but an act of compassion. When the sorceress Ava saved the child Damien from the human’s war with the supernaturals, she set events in motion that she could not foresee. She leaps forward in time with him and finds him a home with a king and queen. The incident damaged the boy’s health. While the queen loves him, the king is abusive. The abused Damien eventually strikes down his father. Now he searches for sorceresses whom he blames for his sickly state.
Caitlin in a new sorceress in the order. During a ritual, it was prophesized that she would fall in love and betray her order. Why she tries to remain aloof from mortals, she must act to save one from a rogue supernatural. She falls in love with Michael, has children with him, and goes into hiding from her sisters.
Talia, Caitlin’s daughter, is destined to be a sorceress. However, when King Damien finds her mother and younger brother, she is forced to flee. On a distant island, she meets Prince Aidan and falls in love. She fears the cycle is starting again. Will she be able to succeed where her mother failed?
Review:
Broken is a fantasy novel by Ivy Logan. The sorceresses job is to protect the gateway between the world of humans and those of the supernaturals. Sorceresses are not above making mistakes. An act of kindness goes terribly wrong. An act of love becomes a catalyst for evil. Caitlin chooses to love a mortal, even knowing the prophecy of her betrayal of the sorceresses. As in many such tales, she meets her destiny on the path she picked to avoid it. From prisoner of mad King Damien, she is now sanctioned by the Wraiths. Talia, her daughter, first flees, then turns to fight.
It wasn’t hard to get into, and it did keep my attention. The pacing of the story is a bit slower than I like. The characters were interesting, but I feel more could have been done with them.

Caitlin in a new sorceress in the order. During a ritual, it was prophesized that she would fall in love and betray her order. Why she tries to remain aloof from mortals, she must act to save one from a rogue supernatural. She falls in love with Michael, has children with him, and goes into hiding from her sisters.
Talia, Caitlin’s daughter, is destined to be a sorceress. However, when King Damien finds her mother and younger brother, she is forced to flee. On a distant island, she meets Prince Aidan and falls in love. She fears the cycle is starting again. Will she be able to succeed where her mother failed?
Review:
Broken is a fantasy novel by Ivy Logan. The sorceresses job is to protect the gateway between the world of humans and those of the supernaturals. Sorceresses are not above making mistakes. An act of kindness goes terribly wrong. An act of love becomes a catalyst for evil. Caitlin chooses to love a mortal, even knowing the prophecy of her betrayal of the sorceresses. As in many such tales, she meets her destiny on the path she picked to avoid it. From prisoner of mad King Damien, she is now sanctioned by the Wraiths. Talia, her daughter, first flees, then turns to fight.
It wasn’t hard to get into, and it did keep my attention. The pacing of the story is a bit slower than I like. The characters were interesting, but I feel more could have been done with them.

Synopsis: The goodreads synopsis mentions Talia, but since I’m 54 pages in without actually meeting her, I give up. I honestly cannot read any further.
The personality of the characters seems to be in constant flux, and the language needs polishing. At the very beginning, there are time jumps all over the place, along with little notes?? letters?? in between chapters from Talia – who is presumably the main character – to her mother, Caitlin. These notes disrupt the flow of the story, and either give away what’s going to happen in the next chapter, or are needlessly expositional, telling us things that we should have gleaned from Caitlin’s thoughts.
This book would have benefited from heavy developmental editing, followed by substantive language editing. Adjectives are overused, and the writing feels stilted, while always providing unnecessary exposition.
Characters are introduced, and then immediately other characters are introduced. Presumably Talia will be introduced in a similar fashion at some point, but I’m afraid I don’t have the patience to wait. None of their stories are carried forward, until we get to Caitlin. And Caitlin is, frankly, boring. She comes across as a paradox – simultaneously all powerful and all knowing, and also very naive, shy and anxious. I can’t be invested in either her or her bored, rich husband with an unhappy childhood and a penchant for marrying women he literally just met.
The book then goes on to describe exactly what the unhappy childhood was in the same flat, dreary tone. If this was a classroom, the droning would have put me to sleep already.
I have so many questions. How can something be both shy and aggressive? If it’s so rabid, why didn’t it charge Michael? Why did it waste so much time just staring at him, confused?
The above quote is from Michael and Caitlin’s first meeting. She dismisses the werexol – some kind of werewolf – and regretfully thinks about how she’s going to have to memory wipe Michael so he doesn’t remember seeing her or the werexol. She and the werexol disappear, and after Michael wastes a lot of time searching for them, he finds her chilling with the kids he’s taken under his wing. The kids ask her if she likes Michael the way he likes her (it’s been, like, two hours since they saw each other), and she puts her hand in his. Then they get married.
What happened to the memory wipe? Why was there no conflict in herself about pitting her duties versus her heart? The only thing we get from her thoughts here is that the connection between them is undeniable. But how? How can your connection be undeniable when all you’ve done is tell each other your names?
“Almost a century” is definitely not immortality. It’s not even an unusually long life. It’s literally the lifespan of a normal human being (barring cancer, pollution, car accidents and the like.) This sort of illogical inconsistency is very frustrating, and honestly makes me respect myself less, for putting myself through even 50 pages of this. Do yourself a favour, give this book a miss.

Michael was a merchant who travelled frequently. He always stayed for a while in the places he travelled to. There was nothing calling him back to his home country of Aberevon except a palatial but empty mansion.
When in Aberevon, the silence in his opulent house enveloped him and a fog of unhappy childhood memories returned. That was why he always moved, never staying long in one place.
The book then goes on to describe exactly what the unhappy childhood was in the same flat, dreary tone. If this was a classroom, the droning would have put me to sleep already.
Stubborn werexol, Caitlin murmured to herself. She had watched the werexol heading towards the human with dismay. Werexols were half man and half wolf. Shy and aggressive, these shape-shifting wolves were said to be descendants of a cursed king. This particular rabid creature must have got through a hole in the Veil, an invisible barrier that separated Earth from Htrae.

Ella was a Heichi sorceress who had enjoyed an existence of almost a century before she chose to renounce her immortality and enter the Ether World, the existence beyond immortality. She had lived a long and eventful life before deciding to move on.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The book as the blurb says is about love and sacrifice and the characters in the story show this in abundance. I particularly loved the female characters Talia and Caitlin but let us not forget all who they love.... they too played a fantastic part in this page turning story. The book had angst, heartache and plot twists that had me thinking in one direction and then going off to another. A definite must read in my opinion.

I read this book in almost a single sitting! I was completely drawn into this make-believe world. It has all the elements of a true best-seller...the triumph of true love, victory of good over evil, the ability of the protagonist to overcome her enemy by digging deep into herself for abilities she didn't know she had, all sprinkled with a touch of magic. But what I loved most about this book is the strength of the male characters...its difficult to describe without giving away too much of the plot but they are true feminists, ably supporting the women without feeling the need to 'save' or 'protect' them. All in all, it's a perfect holiday read!

When Caitlin is born, she carries the likeness of her sorceress sister, Ava, but that is where the likeness ends. On the day Caitlin takes her first lungful of air, the Wraiths rise to foretell her downfall. In whispers, they speak only to Caitlin of the betrayal she will cause. I wonder, did the Wraiths' predictions cause the events that led to Caitlin's demise? And as such, are they not responsible?
The author has done an excellent job of laying down the pebbles in this tale of good 'v' evil. Caitlin's battle and fear are very real. Caitlin spent much of her life alone, scared of the Wraiths' prophesy, keeping away from those who judged her because of the Wraiths' actions. But it is Caitlin and her family who will suffer the most.
Broken takes us from Caitlin's birth, through to her demise, and the struggles of her family. The characters are well-balanced. I loved the letters, Talia wrote to her mother, Caitlin, they are a wonderful touch. As Talia develops, so does her understanding of her mother's plight.
Borken: But Not Lost, is a very enjoyable read.

Phenomenal!
OMG! No words can express how much I loved this story! I can't wait for the next book in the series!!! This book entails a story about love—not romantic love, although there is romance in the story. It's about a mother's love for her children, a daughter's love for her family, a brother's love for his sister, and romantic love between a man and a woman.
The story had me crying at times. There was so much love between the characters. The love Talia's parents shared was palpable. Talia's mother tried to avoid the dark prophecy foretold at her birth, but every decision she made only brought her closer to its fulfillment. I loved Talia, the devoted daughter, and sister who would do anything for her family. No sacrifice was too big. I also adored the love of her life, Aiden, who saved Talia in every way one person could save another. And the ending—wow! Amazing.
If you love YA fantasy books, then this is a must-read. FYI it is clean and perfectly appropriate for younger teens. My daughter is 14 (15 soon), so I recommended this book to her. This is the first book in the Breach Chronicles series, but it is a complete story that does not end in a cliffhanger! Happy reading!

Knowledge of the prophecy alone was enough to change Caitlin’s life. Despite the warnings of the wraiths Caitlin met and fell in love with a human named Michael, and they had two children together. This is where Talia’s coming-of-age story begins and things get complicated and fascinating.
This is a beautifully told, well-written, gripping fantasy about love, family, found family, good vs. evil, and self-sacrifice. I enjoyed the writing style, pacing, and uniqueness of the story. The author built fascinating worlds and the characters were well developed and relatable. I especially loved Caitlin and Talia—two captivating, skillful, and powerful female characters.
If you enjoy young adult fantasy with excellent world-building, an exciting storyline, and strong, passionate female characters this book is for you.

I don’t normally read YA fantasies, but I had come across this author on Twitter and felt compelled to see if her writing matched her on-line persona. This book worked on all levels.
World building is not as easy as it sounds, but Ms. Logan nailed it. Once I became comfortable with the setting, the strong female characters carried me along from one magical generation to the next, from Caitlin to Talia. From adventure to romance.
Ivy Logan fills the pages with wonderful descriptions that puts you into each scene and keeps you interested in the characters and story.
I love when love breaks barriers, especially between magic and non-magic folk.
I love dragons.
I love magic.
I love strong and interesting female characters.
I love family bonds.
This story checked all of my boxes. Well done Ms. Logan on your debut novel.
