Mythverse #4

Amazon Princess

Rate this book
I am beauty. I am grace. I will punch you in the face.

I'm Brandee Jean, just your average Midwestern teenage beauty queen trying to survive the end of the world. I'm hanging in there, thanks to the super strength I got after being struck by lightning.

Turns out I wasn't the only one to get zapped. Some fancy god guy kicked the bucket, and his powers got shuffled and dealt out to ten different teenagers.

Now all ten of us are gonna attend Amazon Academy, where we'll take classes and compete in different tasks. At the end of it - winner takes all. The losers give up their powers, while the winner becomes a god and an official Amazon Princess.

Now that's a crown worth competing for.

Amazon Princess is book 1 in the Amazon Academy duology. The events in these books take place immediately after Wither & Wound: Mount Olympus Academy Book 3. However, this duology can also be read as a standalone series.

This young adult magic academy fantasy novel features: non-stop action, lots of cute boys, favorite characters from Mount Olympus Academy, a hero who's a total Darcy, and lots of plot twists to keep the pages turning.

Drop Dead Gorgeous meets The Hunger Games in this fun spin-off series!

Honestly, I'm really disappointed. The MC is annoying at best. Although the storyline was absolutely amazing, I had a very hard time staying on track with reading this book. All of the other characters were great, or as a they should be in a story such as this one. But I can't get over the MC, it was very distracting. The ending was great and the MC managed to redeem herself somewhat in my eyes, it's just I'm not sure if I could read the next book happily

Oh My Gosh, What An Ending!

The fight for Zues' powers is on!

During the Apocalypse Brandee Jean's life isn't easy. It gets continuously more difficult as she's thrust into another new way of living at the Amazon Academy.

If you get through all the pageant references you'll be rewarded with an explosive ending.

I'm really interested to see how things turn out in the next book

I accidentally stumbled onto this book on Radish & was intrigued to say the least, considering my love of Greek Mythology. Only just learned it's the 4th book in the series. I will say that it was an enjoyable read with a different take on the God's. Given the main characters are pretty much teenagers, it was quite funny in parts, and the tests were quite interesting.
Difficult to give a rating as haven't read previous books in the series.

Post Apocalyptic saga with a twist of Greek mythology

Who could have thought that the death of Zeus would bring an apocalypse to modern day Earth, or that the Amazons still existed or even that Zeus's powers would split and enter into many individuals?

All this along with much more happens in this surprising series. Can't wait for more.

This was a book set in the Mythverse world, the same world as the Mount Olympus Academy series. In it, Brandee Jean has to deal with a new, unexpected power. What ensues is a fun adventure of who is going to win the chance to become a god!

I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one!

First 3 books were better

Book was OK... But the mama said this and mama said that stuff was a bit much! I almost didn't finish reading the book. Also, I live in Wisconsin and we don't say the things the book said we did. Made people who live here, look like dumb hicks.

Super good! Though, if you want to read this series, I would recommend reading Mount Olympus Academy book series. They are both set in the same world.

Great story

Great story, surprising turns, funny and lighthearted. Who doesn’t love the underdog. I look forward to reading more from this world. Excellent character building

This book reminded me of Beauty Queens by Libba Bray. It’s super snarky and has a spunky, genuine, unrestrained Wisconsin Dairy Princesses as it’s heroine. Much like Libba Bray’s main character, BJ is more layered than she first appears. Learning to love her is a wonderful journey.

Hard to Like But Hard to Hate

My first and biggest problem with this book is the dreaded cliffhanger. Don't like them. Can't stand them. I feel like I'm being played with. It doesn't make me want to read the next book to find out what happens, it just makes me mad.
That said, I liked the beginning of the book, and I liked Brandi Jean in the beginning a lot. She's a spunky fighter who's had a rough go in a post-appocalyptic world. It is only when we get further into the book that she begins to annoy me with the constant pageant lessons she's learned that don't seem to serve her well at all.
In these academy books, the heroine usually has one of two allies, but Brandi Jean is marginalized by pretty much everyone in one way or another. It was hard to Like most of the characters with the exception of a small few.
The poor horses, too. I felt bad for both Brandi and Whiskey in different ways as well as the other horses in the final trial. I kind of expected what happened in the end. Wasn't hard to figure out who the protagonists were at all. I realized there would be death in this story, but one particular character's death was somewhat gratuitous and, I believe, unnecessary to further the plotline. What happened could've been done without the killing, after all the removal of power was done once without a resulting death.
I like the story in general, it was the way in which certain parts were told that I didn't like. Maybe because I am beyond the YA/NA demographic, these things about some of the characters bother me more. I will say this, Brandi Jean is a strong, resilient young woman, and I hope, since I did pre-order the second book, we are going to see less pageant talk and a lot more badass, more mature Brandi in the next book. I also hope it is a duology with no more cliffhangers. I really want to give the next book at least one more star maybe more.
On the whole, good plotline, just wasn't crazy about the execution of the whole story in certain areas.

Great!

If you have read the MOA books this one is so much better! The authors put us more into the trenches with the main character and the book is much more in the moment. After the twist ending i am excited to read the next book!

I like this leading lady more than Edie, I also like the supporting cast better i feel like instead of hinting and implying intrigue they actually experience it. The twists and action make a better read.

Fun, fast read.

I can't wait for the next installment. BJ is a strong, loyal, feisty, beauty queen who tends to look at the world with much different eyes. She was raised by her moms words, and still tries to live by them. I can't wait to see what happens next.

What shade of nail polish works best for life in a post-apocalyptic hellscape?
I'm Brandee Jean, just your average Midwestern teenage beauty queen trying to survive the end of the world. If it wasn't for the super strength I picked up after getting struck by lightning, I'd be struggling worse than a pageant girl trying to win the swimsuit competition with a wedgie.
I'm not the only one who got zapped. Turns out some fancy god guy kicked the bucket, and his powers got shuffled and dealt out to ten different teenagers.
Flying. Teleportation. Virility. Wisdom. And more. We all got something.
Now all ten of us are gonna attend Amazon Academy, where we'll take classes and compete in different tasks. At the end of it - winner takes all. The losers give up their powers, while the winner becomes a god and an official Amazon Princess.
Now that's a crown worth competing for.

This was a really great YA read that kept me entertained throughout.
This has a very well written plot and story line that is very engaging from the start.
Well fleshed out characters that I found very believeable.
Love the world building that has gone into this
MAssive cliffhanger ending that makes me just want more.
I can't wait to read more of these from the authors.
Recommend reading.

I enjoyed reading this story. It is written well and I found it entertaining. Brandee Jean is from the pageant world and so that is what she knows. She is no stranger to competition and is ready to compete to become the new Zeus but she is being thrown into a world that she is just learning. She doesn't come across as the smartest person in the bunch but she isn't stupid either. She is determined and loyal and it serves her throughout. I liked her personality for the most part. I found her funny and it made the story enjoyable and entertaining for me to read. There are a few twists in the story. This book ends on a cliff hanger with a huge twist thrown in the end. I will be checking out the next book to figure out what happens next for sure.

So this was a different read for me. I love reading academy books but this one I am not sure. It has a great story line and funny moments. It did keep me intrigued enough to keep reading because in the end I needed to know how it would end. I did love some of the characters and somewhat love Brandie Jean. I do have to say that the ending was unexpected.

Overall this first book of the series slowly builds and has a great ending.

When the King of the Gods (Zeus) dies his power is split between 10 people, 9 of the 10 are at least nobility if not royalty and the 10th is Brandee Jean, a beauty pageant winner from Wisconsin.
Laughter ensues as Brandee Jean takes on the other 9 in a contest to determine who will inherit Zeus's full power and become the next ruler of the Gods.
