Elseworlds

The Green Lantern: Evil's Might

Rate this book
The Green Lantern: Evil's Might, an epic drama in the Elseworlds tradition.

New York, 1888.

This ended up being an unexpectedly poignant read considering the current news climate of corrupt and power-hungry, greedy politicians working against hard-working immigrants and considering the media as their enemy... Fun Elseworlds story, fantastic art, and a message that clearly resonates throughout the centuries that leaves me wondering if we ever truly can learn from our previous mistakes.

A decent history lesson and some really nice art, but Chaykin's cynicism and usual bag of tricks render it kind of blah.

Fun seeing super heroes operating in a time when they weren't common place, but Chaykin's need to wallow in the dirty details means any attempts at nobility and heroism feel a bit hollow and tacked on.

Plus, Kyle Raynor works, just transplanted to a different time period, but Alan Scott and Hal Jordan are just names slapped on characters and jammed into the story.
Neither feels right.

An Elseworlds tale of the Green Lantern mythos set in Victorian Era New York. There's political corruption, oppression of workers, and the plight of the Irish immigrants. Marshall Rogers beautifully illustrates Kyle Rayner's and Alan Scott's struggle over the mystical green power and the streets of the Big Apple.

Elseworlds.
