Trout Flies: Proven Patterns

Rate this book
Trout Flies presents the most carefully tested series of proven fish-takers available to fly fishermen. These are the flies of legend (62 of them) - nationally acclaimed patterns, such as the Emergent Sparkle Pupa, and completely new innovations, such as the Twist Nymph, the hot stillwater imitation - but this isn't another recipe book. It drips with fine observations on the habitat, the fish, and the techniques. This work is a top-to-bottom analysis of day-to-day situations in all types of trout water. It gives anglers the best of modern flies - and all the information they need to fool fish consistently with these exciting patterns. (8 1/2 x 10 3/4, 280 pages, color photos, b&w photos, illustrations)

I'd give it a 4.5. This bad boy is full of really good information. For a biologist nerd like myself his stories of scuba diving to observe a pattern's effectiveness were the pull that kept my nose in the book. I've already tied a number of his patterns during the reading process. This is my first LaFontaine exposure and you can tell the guy really knows how to fish.
