Echo Brennan's life is stuck on pause. Instead of chasing her dream job at Disc, music's hottest magazine, she's still writing for a small-time paper. And helping her boyfriend, Matt, who's had a record deal for years, get through his writer's block. Knowing she needs a life makeover, she kicks Matt out and vows to live her life to a new beat—one that includes professional success and a sensible boyfriend.
Then, overnight, Matt jumps from wannabe rock star to the nation's Next Big Thing.
All thanks to his hit single…about his horrible ex. The most hated woman in rock since Yoko, Echo can't get a job or a date. Was she really as unsupportive as the song suggests?
If she's going to have any career—any life—at all, she's going to have to rebuild her rep, one lyric at a time….
A novel about a girl who breaks up with a musician and ends up being the subject of a hit breakup song. It takes over 50% of the story for the song thing to come into play and the ending is abrupt, with unearned resolutions. There are occasionally some good lines in the dialogue and it feels like standard chick lit for readers, if not very memorable
But if you want to read a much more entertaining version of this plot try YA novel "Audrey, Wait!" by Robin Benway.
I found this book to be annoying and depressing. The protagonist was enabling and the "bad boy", her lover, was rude and hateful. She put him out but cried all the time. She kept trying for a hopeful ending which her annoying friends kept promising. I dont even remember how or why I bought this book, expecially with only 4 reviews. But I tried to read it anyway, hoping for some sort of rom-com. and HEA.There was no "rom" and no "com". and no HEA.I skipped over most of it hoping for some sort of decency from him.Never happened. The ending was not very satisfying. He had alread played the song "Bitch" 2x for her on her phone just for spite. Then she and her frieds went to the club to hear him and she asked if next time would be better for them. He said there is no next time. I am not sure of the point of the novel unless it was just dont fall in love and try to help a musician. In my opinion, not all musicians are hopeless.
gr8 book for its type. The cover was amazing, which is why I picked it up. The action does kind of fade, but with this nature of a book, it was bound to be that way. The author did a great job of trying to keep the action up. Great book for those who like these types of books.
Took a while for the main plot of the story to come around. I think there was a lot of fluff in parts and was extra direct in others. I would’ve loved more focus in some places but I think the book was worth the time and effort to read.
Si le résumé me plaisait bien, je doit dire que cette lecture a été une déception. L’histoire met longtemps à démarrer, l’héroïne passe son temps à se lamenter, et la fin n’a pas arranger Les choses.
You know, I was thinking this was the kind of mindless book I'd fly through. Turns out it's the kind of mindless book that sits idle on my nightstand for days at the time because I just can't muster up the desire to read any more of it. The author is not a bad writer...the story is just kind of blah. I'm not usually one who doesn't finish books, but I have a feeling this might make it into my "Couldn't Finish It" pile before the week is out. I think I need something with some more substance for a change.
I am a person that judges books by their covers and someone playing a guitar will usually immediately draw me to the book. Found in a bargain bin, I didn't have high expectations. It's chick lit and should just be a fun read. And that it was. Love the tie in with the rock star and the ex boyfriend who devotes a whole album to the woman who dumped him. A great cast of secondary characters also were a joy. A really great sitting out by the pool during the final days of summer kind of read.
Pretty good, but the ending was unsatisfying. Also, the font annoyed me because the serif made it look like there was a space between the letter combination of f & l. Yeah, I just complained about the font.
This was an OK read - easy on the brain - like watching a marathon of so-so romantic comedies... but it was what I was in the mood for. And it had one hilarious scene!
