I just read this book with my third-grade book club! They all thought it was pretty funny and paid attention really well. I think they all had fun reading and answering questions about it! It was nice to read a book from my childhood again!

Eva though that the teacher in charge of the dungeon (in-school suspension?), Mr Scooghammer had a mace and used it to discipline the bad kids. Luckily that wasn’t the case.

A very brief chapter book directed at second graders. As with the first book, Kline deals with themes that second graders wonder about, but makes them funny by using silly or surprising characters. Her Harry is a trouble-maker, but (unlike Junie B. Jones) he’s not rude or crude, and he has a heart and a brain. In this book, the feared study hall room turns out to be an interesting place, and the bizarre-looking male teacher a very nice guy. One sour note is the character of Song Lee, who speaks in a rather stereotyped broken English. But on the whole, a much better choice than that unpleasant Junie Jones for second graders. The illustrations are great.

My son and I liked this tale involving Horrible Harry and his friends in elementary school (second graders). This time around, Harry is sent to detention in the Suspension Room - aka the Dungeon - in the old music room in the basement of the school - for not following his teacher's instructions. Turns out Harry is covering for a girl in his class, Song Lee, who is the true culprit, but he plans to have his best friend get him out of detention the following day by telling the teacher what really happened. Needless to say, things don't go as planned, but what emerges in this short tale is a few good learning points about taking accountability for one's actions when in the wrong as well as what it means to be a good friend.

We've read some of this series that aren't as enjoyable or good, but this one had a little more depth to it, and I appreciated what my kiddo could get out of it if he looked beneath the surface of another one of Horrible (he's really not that horrible) Harry's adventures.

There's a new suspension room at Harry's school; it's for the kids who misbehave. Harry's curiosity gets the better of him, so he investigates and decides he needs to find out about the new teacher in charge of the room and the mysterious pointy object in the big black bag.

Harry takes the fall for Song Lee when she touches a butterfly wing. The butterfly just came out of its cocoon, so it could harm the butterfly if a person doesn't let the wings dry.

So Harry gets sent to the dungeon, an apt name that Harry and Doug came up with for the room.

But is it as bad as they think it is?

Of course not.

In this book, the class goes on a field trip to a creepy old castle that is said to be haunted. When they arrive, Harry and his friend Doug get separated from the group and end up locked in the dungeon. They discover a secret passageway and use their knowledge of science to find their way back to the rest of the class. Throughout the book, Harry and his friends use their imaginations to explore the castle and solve the mystery of the ghost that supposedly haunts it. Along the way, they learn about history, science, and problem-solving.

When will kids learn that teachers are the good guys, even those hired as disciplinarians? I do like this series, and have decided to read a bunch of 'em, since my library has them and they are short. I'm reserving the fourth star for the most special ones, but even the three star ones are worthwhile.

Uh-oh! Song Lee just went up and accidentally caused another Butterfly Incident, it was rumored that the man who runs the suspension room was secretly a Sangrivs Ferri double agent who was hiding in the school. To figure this out our good mercenary friend Harry takes the fall for Song so he can see what the hell really goes on in that room. Does he make it out alive? Idk go and find out.

Part of a large series of fun stories following the antics of Doug, Harry and their friends in Room 2B. Excellent to listen to (available on Hoopla), and usually around 30-45 min, these are enjoyable for kids and adults alike. I highly recommend for your next car ride!

I think this book is for younger kids because it was very easy to read. It also has stuff that says that it's really scary, but it actually isn't. i liked this book because it was very cute.

There?s a new rule at South School?if you misbehave, you go to the Suspension Room (or ?the Dungeon,? as the students of Room 2B call it). The rumors are flying about what actually goes on down there, but Harry won?t be satisfied until he finds out for himself. ?Fans of Song Lee, Harry, and Doug will enjoy the latest simple chapter-book about school matters that loom large and surprise you.? -- BooklistSuzy Kline is the author of ten books that star Horrible Harry and Song Lee. It has been a while since I have read the Horrible Harry chapter book series. This book, from my personal library, was a gift from my first grade teacher Miss Minier at the end of the year. The story is from the narrator Doug's perspective, who is the friend of a mischievous boy named Harry. In this book, Harry and Doug learn that there will be a Suspension Room in the school's basement for any kids who get in trouble during the last few weeks of school. Harry and Doug afraid of, yet also intrigued by, the Suspension Room supervisor, Mr. Skooghammer. They call the Suspension Room "The Dungeon."
The boys hatch a plan to get Harry sent to the room, but Harry is worried when the plan works and he has to spend the day in the Suspension Room. Now, Doug must figure out how to save Harry from "The Dungeon," thinking that Mr. Skooghammer is doing awful things to Harry.
I enjoyed the Horrible Harry series as a child. Now reading the stories as a hopeful teacher, I have discovered that Miss Mackle does some cool things in her classroom that I would enjoy doing as a teacher. Being a teacher once herself, Suzy Kline has been able to write some fun stories of school adventures of Horrible Harry and his friend Doug.

Horrible Harry and the Dungeon, by Suzy Kline, is a book about how Harry goes and tries to see how the dungeon is like. The main character is Harry. The book takes place in a school. Harry’s main internal struggle is that he wants to know about the dungeon. His main external struggle is that he’s always getting in trouble with an adult.

During my time reading this book I made a text-to-text connection. There was a part in the book where Harry tries to see the dungeon. That reminded me of all the Horrible Harry books. They both are always interested in something. They learn that it’s okay to be really interested in something as long as you don’t get yourself in trouble.

I would give this book 3 star. I liked the funniness in the book. I wouldn’t give this book 5 star because the book is easy for me. I would recommend this book to someone who likes easy books. I would also recommend this book to someone who likes books with some humor in it.

I just read an interesting book. This book is called Horrible Harry and the Dungeon by Suzy Kline. There are two main characters Mrs. Mackle and Harry. The children of this school were told that if they were bad or there behavior was unacceptable they would be sent to the suspension room. This teacher to be supervising was Mr. Skooghammer. Harry got sent to the dungeon for bad behavior. The kids were afraid of Mr. Skooghammer Harry said his name sounded like a Viking weapon. Harry was scared to go down to the suspension room they called it a dungeon the kids did. While he was in the dungeon his friends were having visions such as Mr. Skooghammer chaining Harry down to a chair. I personally like this book because it is mysterious and we learn a lesson to not be naughty and to always listen to older elders such as teachers, moms, and dads. I suggest this book to people who like mysterious kind of books.

This is another interesting story in the Horrible Harry series by Suzy Kline and Frank Remkiewicz. We've already read a couple of these stories out of order and found them to be funny, short, and entertaining. So we decided to start reading the series from the beginning.

This story shows what lengths Harry will go to in order to discover what's going on in the dungeon as well as to protect his friend. It's a fun story to read aloud and we enjoyed reading it together. I expect we'll be visiting with Horrible Harry again very soon.

In this story Harry is a student who gets in trouble a lot in his class at school. The principal has just made a new rule at school too. If anyone gets in trouble they have to go to the suspension room with a new teacher who has a weird name. No one knew what this teacher was like or what happened in the suspension room but Harry was determined to find out. He came up with a plan to get himself in trouble so that he had to go to the suspension room to find out what happened in the room.

"Horrible Harry and the dungeon" is a mysterious book, you never know what Harry is going to do, whether he is planning for revenge or wants to be kind for once in his life. This book is spectacular, no matter where you are this book can be read in no time and can guarantee you that anything you result from this book is positive. I suggest that if you ever see this book on a bookshelf hurry and buy it!

These are sweet little chapter books about thoughtful, slightly flawed child characters negotiating everyday elementary-school situations. My seven-year-old daughter's read two so far and seems to be really enjoying them. Mild suspense throughout and a twist at the end.

UPDATE: She's read all of the ones that our library system has (maybe nine or ten?). Might be a good choice for younger reluctant readers?

Nice enough little story, even though I wish it had a bit of an intro about the main character as other series often do. I had neve read any of the he books and would have appreciated to know an bit about the main character and his friends. There is no setting of the stage, the story starts right away but I'll have beginning readers surely excited and looking to read more.

The school principal institutes a new detention policy, symbolized by its new room, which quickly becomes a subject of dread for the imaginative kids. Harry, of course, wants to see if all the fuss is justified, and does enough antics to land him there, although it turns out to be the opposite of what he expects.
